  • Do Competition Authorities Consider Business Relationships?
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing. - : Taylor and Francis (Routledge). - 1051-712X .- 1547-0628. ; 19:1, s. 67-92
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: Companies engage in business relationships for a variety of reasons, including specialization, product development, and building competitive networks. Research has demonstrated that mergers and acquisitions (Mandamp; As) may challenge ongoing business relationships. The purpose of this article is to investigate whether and how competition authorities consider business relationships when evaluating Mandamp; As. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanMethodology: The article uses the documentation from 450 Mandamp; As reported to the Swedish competition authority to capture the way in which an authority evaluates Mandamp; As. The Swedish competition authority evaluation corresponds to other national and international evaluation procedures. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanFindings: The findings indicate that the competition authorities neglect an important aspect of business life, namely companies forming business relationships. The competition authorities evaluate Mandamp; As on the basis of risk for price increases, and consequently disregard such issues as heterogeneity in demand and offerings, and values built into existing business relationships. less thanbrgreater than less thanbrgreater thanOriginality/Value/Contribution: The article contributes to research on business relationships through exploring how a public authority deals with such relationships. It also contributes to research on mergers and acquisitions through examining how these activities are evaluated by competition authorities. Furthermore, the article contributes to competition research by reflecting on competition law concerning Mandamp;A regulations in relation to business relationships.

  • External Trade and Internal Geography: Local Export Spillovers by Industry Characteristics and Firm Size
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Spatial Economic Analysis. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1742-1772 .- 1742-1780. ; 7:4, s. 420-445
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Exporting firms in a region may reduce export entry costs for other local firms either through market or non-market interactions. This paper tests this proposition by analyzing whether the probability of exporting among Swedish firms is positively associated with the local presence of exporters in their region and industry. Our results support this conjecture, while also providing some support for such export spillovers being more important in contract-intensive industries and small firms. The results for different industries and size-classes of firms are also sensitive to whether we focus on firms' export status or restrict the sample to export starters.

  • Experience of meaning in everyday occupations among unemployed people with severe mental illness
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Occupational Therapy. - : Informa UK Limited. - 1103-8128 .- 1651-2014. ; 19:1, s. 49-58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background. Knowledge about how people with severe mental illness find meaning in non-work occupations is important in order to develop programmes of meaningful daily occupations for this group. Purpose. To examine the meaning daily occupations may bring to those who are severely mentally ill and unemployed. Methods. Twelve unemployed people with severe mental illness were interviewed regarding their experience of meaning in daily occupations.Findings. Meaning was experienced in a balance between occupations that helped the informants control their mental illness. Themes of meaning were: feeling competent and being socially engaged, having routines and being productive, being creative and seeking knowledge, and taking care of body and mind. Substitutes for paid work were found in occupations such as taking care of the household or being productive at a day centre.Implications. People with severe mental illness should be allowed to play an active role in their rehabilitation process, using the occupational therapist for forming daily routines, creating a balance between work-like and restful occupations, finding occupations that meet one’s skills and training social behaviour. Besides, work-related occupations should be emphasized in the rehabilitation.

  • Education reform in Bolivia : Transitions toward which future?
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Research in Comparative and International Education. - Oxford : SAGE Publications. - 1745-4999. ; 7:4, s. 419-433
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article concerns the impact of educational reforms on young people in Bolivian society as they transition into adulthood, against the backdrop of globalisation and far-reaching structural changes. Ethnicity and cultural capital are linked in complex ways with social stratification in Bolivia. In a pluricultural society, the language of instruction and curricular content are among the most fundamental conditions that determine which social or linguistic groups will be excluded or disadvantaged during formal education. Language and content are particularly significant in identity formation and in the shaping of cultural capital. Each contributes to the formation of specific intercultural skills and opportunities for communication within national or international communities. Additionally, each of these components helps determine which educational paths are open for young people, and which activities they can engage with later in life. In Bolivia, various education reforms have attempted to reshape these parameters. Intercultural Bilingual Education and other key aspects of the reforms will be described along with the historical context in which they emerged. Some conclusions are put forward related to their implementation.

  • The experience of care at nurse-led rheumatology clinics
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Musculoskeletal Care. - : Wiley. - 1478-2189 .- 1557-0681. ; 10:4, s. 202-211
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To describe how people with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) experience the care provided by Swedish nurse-led rheumatology outpatient clinics.METHODS: Eighteen adult people with a diagnosis of RA who had had at least three documented contact sessions with a nurse-led clinic were interviewed. The interviews were analysed with qualitative content analysis.RESULTS: Care was expressed in three categories: social environment, professional approach and value-adding measures. A social environment including a warm encounter, a familial atmosphere and pleasant premises was desired and contributed to a positive experience of care. The nurses' professional approach was experienced as empathy, knowledge and skill, as well as support. The care was described as person centred and competent, as it was based on the individual's unique experience of his/her disease and needs. The nurses' specialist knowledge of rheumatology and rheumatology care was highly valued. The offered care represented added value for the participants, instilling security, trust, hope and confidence. It was perceived as facilitating daily life and creating positive emotions. The nurse-led clinics were reported to be easily accessible and provided continuity of the care. These features were presented as fundamental guarantees for health care safety.CONCLUSION: The experiences emphasized the need for a holistic approach to care. In this process, the organization of care and the role and skills of the nurse should be focused on the individual's needs and perspectives. The social environment, professional approach and value-adding measures are particularly relevant for optimal care at nurse-led rheumatology outpatient clinics.

  • Post-stroke depression and functional independence : a conundrum
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Acta Neurologica Scandinavica. - : Hindawi Limited. - 0001-6314 .- 1600-0404. ; 126:1, s. 45-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives People who suffer a stroke are at risk of developing post-stroke depression (PSD). Not only does this lower their quality of life but it also increases their risk of another stroke or death. This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with PSD in order to better direct rehabilitation efforts aimed at cutting the incidence of PSD.Material and methods This study was based on all patients admitted to the stroke unit of a hospital in southern Sweden from 1 October 2003 to 30 November 2005. The total number of patients involved was 181. Measures were collected at 2 +/- 1 weeks after discharge from hospital, 3 +/- 0.5 months after the occurrence of the stroke and 12 +/- 1 months after the occurrence of the stroke. Information collected was results from the Center of Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale and the Barthel Index together with demographic data including age, sex, time since stroke and relationship status. Results Those patients involved in the study were mainly men (5859%) and generally those either married or cohabiting (5357%). The age of respondents ranged from 32 to 92 years with a mean age of 74.0 (95%CI 72.3775.63) at 2 +/- 1 weeks after discharge. The Barthel Index scores ranged from 15 to 100 with means of between 88.7 and 91.7. Between 15% and 19% of the group were clinically depressed during the time frame of the study. The Barthel Index, measuring functional independence in terms of need for assistance with personal activities of daily living (P-ADL), was consistently associated with PSD.Conclusions The differences found in levels of depression between those with lower functional independence after a stroke compared to those more independent in P-ADL, raise the possibility that attention should be paid to therapeutic rehabilitation for stroke patients to help them recover as much functional independence as possible in order to improve their quality of life and lower their chances of developing PSD.

  • Evangelicalism in the Interspaces : The Construction of Judeo-Christian Identity in a Messianic Community in Jerusalem
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Swedish Missiological Themes. - : Swedish Institute of Mission Research. - 0346-217X. ; 100:3, s. 263-263
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is based on ethnographic field work in an evangelical/Messianic community in contemporary Jerusalem. In the paper I interpret the pro-Israeli strand of Evangelicalism’s fascination with Judaica and Jewish ritual in relation to the movement’s location in a temporal-spatial interspace. I argue that the Christian Zionist impulse to experiment with Jewish tradition needs to be understood as an attempt to navigate the religious interspaces which are formed by its strong identification with the Jewish people and the State of Israel, its integration of the national movement of Zionism into a specific Protestant eschatology and its concrete presence in the context of Israeli society.
