  • GRACILE-oireyhtymä--vastasyntyneen vakava mitokondriotauti.
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Duodecim; lääketieteellinen aikakauskirja. - 0012-7183. ; 128:15, s. 1560-1567
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • GRACILE syndrome belongs to the Finnish disease heritage, and is caused by a point mutation in the BCS1L-gene encoding a mitochondrial protein. This leads to dysfunction of the complex III in the respiratory chain. Significant fetal growth disturbance is the primary manifestation. Within the first day the newborn infant develops severe lactic acidosis. Hypoglycemia, elevated serum ferritin and conjugated bilirubin values and aminoaciduria imply mitochondrial liver disease and renal tubulopathy. In Finland, the diagnosis is based on the 232A>G mutation in the BCS1L-gene. No specific treatment is available. GRACILE syndrome leads to early death.

  • How do things get done: on non-canonical passives in Finnish
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Non-canonical passives. - 9789027255884 - 9789027272270 ; , s. 213-233
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we argue that, in addition to non-agreeing passives, Finnish has even an agreeing passive. The agreeing passive shows similar behaviour to non-canonical passives in other languages, such as get-passives in English. The agreeing passive differs from ordinary copular constructions in various ways, most importantly in the availability of an event-interpretation. Agreeing and non-agreeing passives have similar structure in the tense and vP domains; the differences between them can be attributed to differences in the selecting heads. Agreeing passives differ from copular constructions in that the latter lack a vP. The selecting heads are, however, the same in the two constructions.

  • Resultative passives in Finnish
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Approaches to Hungarian: Papers from the 2011 Lund Conference.
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, I argue that Finnish passive participle (e.g. avattu 'opened' and suljettu 'closed') can be multiply ambiguous: the "same" morphophonological forms exhibit different patterns of eventivity and agentivity, and are used to form "traditional" non-agreeing passives, agreeing resultative passives and agreeing sentences that describe "pure" states and behave in most contexts like "traditional" copula-adjective constructions. I show that in Finnish, Participle Phrases that look similar on the outside can be formed in different ways, and that these Participle Phrases are selected by different superordinate heads, to form either a non-agreeing passive, an agreing resultative, or a "pure" stative sentence.
