  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • From 1945 to 1946, Zygmunt Lakocinski (1905-1987) served as the head of the Polish Research Institute in Lund. The Institute conducted interviews with newly arrived concentration camp prisoners, thus documenting the traumatic wartime experiences of repatriates. With the evacuated former prisoners in mind, Lakocinski founded and served as the editor of the Polish-language weekly "Polak". The collected source material, including over 500 interviews with Polish citizens, was securely preserved, and sent to the Hoover Institute and Library of War, Revolution and Peace at Standford University in 1949.

  • Polskie repatriantki w Szwecji - zostac czy wracac do kraju? : Przyczynek do badan polskiej emigracji powojennej w Szwecji.

  • Book chapter (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The main source of this article is based on the correspondence between former concentration camp prisoners: Melchior, Dziedzicka, Karier and Krzyzanowska, who were evacuated to Sweden in 1945, and Lakocinski, the founder of the Polish Research Institute in Lund and the editor of the influential weekly "Polak" magazine, addressed to Polish immigrants in Sweden. In 1945-46, the members of the Polish Research Institute were conducting in-depth interviews with former concentration camp prisoners, temporary accommodated at the refugee camps in Sweden. Based on the collection of these and other letters (Jachnina´s correspondence with Kurowski); the author of the article analyzes the personal attitudes of Polish women and men in Sweden, their post-war dilemmas, political orientations, and individual choices. This material is a valuable contribution to the knowledge about the post-war Polish immigration in Sweden, against the backdrop of US, Gb or French immigration, which has so far been relatively poorly explored.
