  • Psychological treatments for depression delivered via the internet and supported by a clinician: An pdate : [Tratamientos psicológicos para la depresión aplicados a través de Internet y con el apoyo de un clínico: Una actualización]
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Revista de Psicopatologia y Psicologia Clinica. - : Asociación de Análisis del Comportamiento. - 1136-5420 .- 2254-6057. ; 19:3, s. 217-225
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Guided internet-delivered cognitive behaviour therapy (ICBT) has been tested in many trials since the early studies dating back to the late 1990s. The aim of this review was to investigate the most recent literature on guided ICBT for depression. We identified 11 controlled studies published between January 2013 and September 2014. Overall, large treatment effects were observed with a few exceptions. A majority (7 studies) provided some information regarding unwanted effects such as deterioration. Three studies directly compared guided ICBT against face-to-face CBT. We added an earlier study and calculated meta-analytic summary statistics for the four studies involving a total of 336 participants. The average effect size difference was Hedges g = 0.12 (95% CI: -0.08∼0.32) in the direction of favouring guided ICBT, but with no practical importance. We conclude that guided ICBT is a promising treatment for depression and mood disorders and that the research is rapidly expanding.

  • Development of iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation : New catalysts, new substrate scope
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of Organometallic Chemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-328X .- 1872-8561. ; 714, s. 3-11
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A review. The asym. hydrogenation of olefins is a tremendously powerful tool used to synthesize chiral mols. The field was pioneered using rhodium- and ruthenium- based catalysts; however, catalysts based on both of these metals suffer from limitations, such as the need for directing substituents near or even adjacent to the olefin. Iridium-based catalysts do not suffer from this flaw and can thus hydrogenate a wide variety of olefins, including some tetra substituted ones. It is also possible for iridium-based catalysts to hydrogenate hetero-π bonds such as those found in heteroarom. rings. This review summarizes the contributions made to this field by the authors in the past few years. [on SciFinder(R)]

  • Iridium catalysts for the asymmetric hydrogenation of olefins with nontraditional functional substituents
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Coordination chemistry reviews. - : Elsevier BV. - 0010-8545 .- 1873-3840. ; 252:5-7, s. 513-531
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chiral iridium catalysts have now been used in the asymmetric hydrogenation of largely unfunctionallized olefins for a decade. Recently, they have also been applied to substrates with more exotic functional groups, including non-coordinating ones. These, unlike coordinating substituents, cannot direct asymmetric hydrogenation by rhodium- or ruthenium-based catalysts. This review discusses several classes of these less familiar substrates, outlines the progress that has been made toward their stereoselective hydrogenation, and highlights the role of iridium complexes in this emerging field. We hope this will inspire researchers to consider iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation as a potential route to a broad range of chiral compounds.

  • Intracellular pathogens go extreme: genome evolution in the Rickettsiales
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Trends in Genetics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9525 .- 1362-4555. ; 23:10, s. 511-520
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Rickettsiales, a genetically diverse group of the α-Proteobacteria, include major mammalian pathogens, such as the agents of epidemic typhus, scrub typhus, ehrlichioses and heartwater disease. Sequenced genomes of this bacterial order have provided exciting insights into reductive genome evolution, antigenic variation and host cell manipulation. Recent results suggest that human pathogens emerged relatively late in the evolution of the Rickettsiales. Surprisingly, there is no association between pathogenicity and the acquisition of novel virulence genes. Here, we explore the genomic differences between members of the Rickettsiales and ask what are the changes that enable infectious agents to emerge from seemingly harmless bacteria.

  • Cerebrovascular Hemodynamics in Cognitive Impairment and Dementia : A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Transcranial Doppler Studies
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders. - : S. Karger. - 1420-8008 .- 1421-9824. ; 52:5-6, s. 277-295
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Transcranial Doppler sonography (TCD) is a non-invasive tool for measuring cerebrovascular hemodynamics. Studies have reported alterations in cerebrovascular hemodynamics in normal aging, mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia, as well as in different etiologies of dementia. This systematic review and meta-analysis was designed to investigate the relationship between cerebral blood velocity (CBv) and pulsatility index (PI) in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) in persons with MCI and dementia. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in Pubmed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Epistemonikos, PsychINFO, and CINAHL. The search was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. After screening of 33439 articles, 86 were reviewed in full-text, and 35 fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Results: CBv was significantly lower and PI significantly higher in MCA in vascular dementia (VaD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) compared to cognitively normal (CN) older persons. Also, CBv was lower in MCI compared to CN. There were no significant differences in CBv in MCA in AD compared with VaD, although PI was higher in VaD compared to AD.Conclusion: Alterations in cerebrovascular hemodynamics are seen in AD, VaD and MCI. While PI was slightly higher in VaD compared to AD, the reduction in CBv appears to be equally pronounced across neurodegenerative and vascular etiologies of dementia.

  • The challenges of integrating two genomes in one cell
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Current Opinion in Microbiology. - : CURRENT BIOLOGY LTD. - 1369-5274 .- 1879-0364. ; 41, s. 89-94
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mutualistic bacteria and mitochondria have small genomes that harbor host-essential genes. A major question is why a distinct bacterial or mitochondrial genome is needed to encode these functions. The dual location of genes demand two sets of information processing systems, coordination of gene expression and elaborate transport systems. A simpler solution would be to harbor all genes in a single genome. Functional gene transfers to the host nuclear genome is uncommon in mutualistic bacteria and lost gene functions are rather rescued by co-symbiotic bacteria. Recent findings suggest that the mitochondria! genome is retained to avoid conflicting signals between protein targeting pathways in the cell. However, if the selective pressure for oxygenic respiration is lost, the mitochondrial genome will start to deteriorate and soon be lost.

  • Integrating Downstream Ecological, Social and Economic Effects of Hydropower to Hydraulic Modeling: A Review
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: World Journal of Mechanics. - 2160-049X .- 2160-0503. ; 13:8, s. 149-172
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hydropower gains increasing importance as a steerable and controllable power source in a renewable energy mix and deregulated markets. Although hydropower produces fossil-free energy, it has a significant impact on the local environment. This review investigates the effects of flow alterations by hydropower on the downstream river system and the possibilities to integrate these effects into hydraulic modeling. The results show that various effects of flow regulation on the ecosystem, but also social and economic effects on related communities were observed in the last decades. The application of hydraulic models for investigations of ecological effects is common. Especially hydraulic effects and effects on fish were extensively modeled with the help of hydraulic 1D- and 2D-simulations. Current applications to investigate social and economic effects integrated into hydraulic modeling are meanwhile limited. Approaches to realizing this integration are presented. Further research on the economic valuation of ecosystems and integration of social and economic effects to hydraulic models is necessary to develop holistic tools to support decision-making on sustainable hydropower.

  • Research on small genomes : Implications for synthetic biology
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Bioessays. - : Wiley. - 0265-9247 .- 1521-1878. ; 32:4, s. 288-295
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Synthetic genomics is a new field of research in which small DNA pieces are assembled in a series of steps into whole genomes. The highly reduced genomes of host-associated bacteria are now being used as models for de novo synthesis of small genomes in the laboratory. Bacteria with the smallest genomes identified in nature provide nutrients to their hosts, such as amino acids, co-factors and vitamins. Comparative genomics of these bacteria enables predictions to be made about the gene sets required for core cellular functions and the associated metabolic network for the biosynthesis of host-selected compounds. Synthetic biology may ultimately enable researchers to make customized cell-specific organelles for the production and delivery of drugs to humans and domestic animals. Synthetic genomics may also become the method of choice for functional analyses of genes and genomes from bacteria that cannot be cultivated in the laboratory.

  • Highly Enantioselective Iridium Catalyzed Hydrogenation of α, β-Unsaturated Esters
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Chemistry - A European Journal. - : Wiley. - 0947-6539 .- 1521-3765. ; 18:34, s. 10609-10616
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • α,β-Unsaturated esters have been employed as substrates in iridium-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation. Full conversions and good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99 % ee) were obtained for a broad range of substrates with both aromatic- and aliphatic substituents on the prochiral carbon. The hydrogenated products are highly useful as building blocks in the synthesis of a variety of natural products and pharmaceuticals.

  • Enantioconvergent and enantiodivergent catalytic hydrogenation of isomeric olefins
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Chemical Society Reviews. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 0306-0012 .- 1460-4744. ; 49:8, s. 2504-2522
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of olefins is one of the most widely studied and utilised transformations in asymmetric synthesis. This straightforward and atom-economical strategy can provide excellent enantioselectivity for a broad variety of substrates and is widely relevant for both industrial applications and academic research. In many instances the hydrogenation is stereospecific in the regard that the E-Z-geometry of the olefin governs the stereochemistry of the hydrogenation, producing an enantiodivergent outcome. Interestingly, the possibility to hydrogenate E- and Z-isomer mixtures to a single stereoisomer in an enantioconvergent manner has been reported. This avoids the need for synthesis of geometrically pure alkene starting materials and therefore constitutes a significant practical advantage. This review article aims to provide an overview of the different stereochemical outcomes in the hydrogenation of olefins. Although the field is well developed and selectivity models have been proposed for a number of catalytic systems, an organized collection of enantioconvergent results, as opposed to the more common enantiodivergent case, might promote new investigation into these phenomena.
