  • Numerical Study of Game Theory
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: New Physics. - Seoul : The Korean Physical Society. - 0374-4914. ; 60:9, s. 943-951

    • Game-theoretic approach has been providing a powerful tool in qualitative understanding of macroscopic social phenomena in social sciences, e.g., in economics and political science. Recently, researchers in physics, especially in statistical physics, use these game-theoretic approaches but in more quantitative way and have been producing a variety of interesting results in the new research area called ’sociophysics’ by studying human society as a complex system. This work introduces recent works that have tackled combinatorial complexities arising in game-theoretic studies with the aid of simplified assumptions and numerical computations. We first show how cooperation emerges in the prisoner’s dilemma game when each player’s memory capacity is enhanced and suggest that the intelligent tit-for-tat strategy plays a crucial role in the history of cooperation. And then it is numerically shown that there is a certain case of simultaneous coordination among many players where the system has a high risk of failure when everyone is willing to follow the coordination, which is actually higher than when some are not concerned about it. Lastly, we discuss mathematical treatment of an equilibrium solution for a reverse auction game, which is a variant of the minority game, and its computational approach.

  • Taejung-ŭi yŏksa: se pŏn-ŭi hyŏjntŏng : 1789, 1889, 1989 [Tre revolutioner : En kort historia om folket, 1789, 1889, 1989]

  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Stefan Jonsson uses three monumental works of art to build a provocative history of popular revolt: Jacques-Louis David's The Tennis Court Oath (1791), James Ensor's Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889 (1888), and Alfredo Jaar's They Loved It So Much, the Revolution (1989). Addressing, respectively, the French Revolution of 1789, Belgium's proletarian messianism in the 1880s, and the worldwide rebellions and revolutions of 1968, these canonical images not only depict an alternative view of history but offer a new understanding of the relationship between art and politics and the revolutionary nature of true democracy.Drawing on examples from literature, politics, philosophy, and other works of art, Jonsson carefully constructs his portrait, revealing surprising parallels between the political representation of "the people" in government and their aesthetic representation in painting. Both essentially "frame" the people, Jonsson argues, defining them as elites or masses, responsible citizens or angry mobs. Yet in the aesthetic fantasies of David, Ensor, and Jaar, Jonsson finds a different understanding of democracy-one in which human collectives break the frame and enter the picture.Connecting the achievements and failures of past revolutions to current political issues, Jonsson then situates our present moment in a long historical drama of popular unrest, making his book both a cultural history and a contemporary discussion about the fate of democracy in our globalized world.

  • Challenges of creating a sign dictionary
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Records of Visible Language. - Seoul : The National Institute of Korean Langauge (NIKL). ; , s. 61-77
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The article will describe how the Swedish Sign Language Dictionary has developed, and why it takes a long time to establish such a dictionary. A lexicographic work of Swedish Sign Language was initiated in 1988 at Stockholm University, and it resulted, in 2001, the first dictionary online. The Swedish Sign Language Dictionary was created in 2008 and has been in development since. When the direction of the corpus construction started in 2003, and when the corpus data, thanks to the three-years project of the Swedish Sign Language Corpus 2009-2011, expanded with gloss annotations, a discussion has arisen about how the Online Swedish Sign Language Dictionary should continue to be in its development and in which direction, and how to use the SSL Corpus as a source of input for new signs and lexical variation in the SSL Dictionary.
