  • IceCube search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2023). - : Sissa Medialab Srl.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  GRB 221009A is the brightest Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) ever observed. The observed extremelyhigh flux of high and very-high-energy photons provide a unique opportunity to probe the predictedneutrino counterpart to the electromagnetic emission. We have used a variety of methods to searchfor neutrinos in coincidence with the GRB over several time windows during the precursor, promptand afterglow phases of the GRB. MeV scale neutrinos are studied using photo-multiplier ratescalers which are normally used to search for galactic core-collapse supernovae neutrinos. GeVneutrinos are searched starting with DeepCore triggers. These events don’t have directionallocalization, but instead can indicate an excess in the rate of events. 10 GeV - 1 TeV and >TeVneutrinos are searched using traditional neutrino point source methods which take into accountthe direction and time of events with DeepCore and the entire IceCube detector respectively. The>TeV results include both a fast-response analysis conducted by IceCube in real-time with timewindows of T0 − 1 to T0 + 2 hours and T0 ± 1 day around the time of GRB 221009A, as well asan offline analysis with 3 new time windows up to a time window of T0 − 1 to T0 + 14 days, thelongest time period we consider. The combination of observations by IceCube covers 9 ordersof magnitude in neutrino energy, from MeV to PeV, placing upper limits across the range forpredicted neutrino emission.

  • Temporal Analysis of X.509 Revocations and their Statuses
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: 7TH IEEE EUROPEAN SYMPOSIUM ON SECURITY AND PRIVACY WORKSHOPS (EUROS&PW 2022). - : IEEE. - 9781665495608 ; , s. 258-265
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the X509 public key infrastructure (PKI) being essential for ensuring the trust we place in our communication with web servers, the revocation of the trust placed in individual X509 certificates is neither transparent nor well-studied, leaving many unanswered questions. In this paper, we present a temporal analysis of 36 million certificates, whose revocation statuses we followed for 120 days since first being issued. We characterize the revocation rates of different certificate authorities (CAs) and how the rates change over the lifetime of the certificates. We identify and discuss several instances where the status changes from "revoked" to "good", "unauthorized" or "unknown", respectively, before the certificates expiry. This complements prior work that has observed such inconsistencies in some CAs behavior after expiry but also highlight a potentially more severe problem. Our results highlight heterogeneous revocation practices among the CAs.

  • Optimization of the Internal Structure and Shape of a 470 Dinghy Centerboard
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings (MDPI). - Basel Switzerland : MDPI. - 2504-3900. ; 49:1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of this paper is to design an improved centerboard for the Olympic 470 sailing dinghy sailing upwind. The design is improved by introducing a composite design that makes the centerboard twist to windward when sailing upwind, thereby reducing the angle of attack of the hull. The results show that a beneficial twist up to 1.5° is possible to achieve without compromising the centerboard strength. According to our estimates, by utilizing the improved design it is possible to obtain a gain of up to 9 s per race in a world cup race.

  • Long slide-away discharges in the COMPASS tokamak
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 58th Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics. ; 61:18, s. GP10.00101-
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this contribution, long runaway electron (RE)dominated discharges achieved in the COMPASS tokamak are presented. The extensivelength is possible due to a low consumption of available volt-seconds of thetokamak transformer in this type of discharge. Energetic electron losses in thisregime seems to be modulated mainly by small oscillations of a radial position (controllersetting) unlike in the RE discharges at higher electron density, where variousMHD phenomena affect the evolution of the losses. The behaviour of the slide-awayplasma is studied using magnetic coils, HXR detectors, ECE system and a pair of3He proportional counters of neutrons. The plasma scenario is also modelled usingFokker-Planck codes.

  • An electroencephalography-based approach to evaluate movement-related anxiety in physically active adults and following anterior cruciate ligament injury
  • 2022
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Psychophysiological consequences often persist following musculoskeletal trauma and can result in vastly decreased quality of life. Re-injury anxiety is particularly common among individuals following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. Existing assessments of re-injury anxiety are, however, restricted to subjective suboptimal questionnaires, which may result in under-reporting and thus poorer injury management. We propose a novel approach to objectively quantify arousal response to movement-related anxiety. A new experimental paradigm was implemented to induce and record a conditioned electrophysiological response to a sudden perturbation, experienced to be potentially injurious. Objective: To explore the feasibility of detecting anxiety-associated electrocortical response and to evaluate its discriminative ability between asymptomatic individuals and those who had experienced an ACL injury. Methods: Physically-active asymptomatic persons and individuals post-ACL reconstruction stood blindfolded on a perturbation platform capable of generating high-acceleration translations (1.5 m/s2). Auditory stimuli were repeatedly presented in four-second intervals, as either low- or high-frequency tones. Half of the high-frequency tones were followed 1.5 seconds later by a destabilizing perturbation in one of eight randomized directions. The two tone conditions were thus termed ‘Neutral’ and ‘Anxiety’, as the high-frequency tone was intended to invoke an arousal response in anticipation of a potential perturbation. Event-related potentials (ERP) were computed for nine electrodes by averaging 100 Neutral and 100 Anxiety trials. Significant ERP components were identified using functional data analysis. Paired difference-waves’ amplitudes (Neutral - Anxiety) were compared between groups. Results: ERP correlates of anxiety were detected for both groups in frontal and central midline locations, with an observable contingent negative variation (CNV) from 500 ms post-stimulus in Anxiety compared with Neutral trials. This ERP component is reflective of a threat-induced arousal response, associated with attention and expectancy of an anxiety-relevant event. Preliminary data indicate no group differences in CNV amplitudes. Conclusions: Objective evaluation of an arousal response to movement-related anxiety was found to be feasible, resulting in a threat-induced CNV. Further investigation will elucidate the discriminative power of such an approach to differentiate between individuals with high and low re-injury anxiety, as well as potential associations with existing patient-reported outcome measures.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ability to draw other agents’ attention to objects and events is an important skill on the critical path to effective human-robot collaboration. People use the act of pointing to draw other people’s attention to objects and events for a wide range of purposes. While there is significant work that aims to understand people’s pointing behavior, there is little work analyzing how people interpret robot pointing. Since robots have a wide range of physical bodies and cognitive architectures, interpreting pointing will be determined by a specific robot’s morphology and behavior. Humanoids and robots whose heads, torso and arms resemble humans that point may be easier for people to interpret, however if such robots have different perceptual capabilities to people then misinterpretation may occur. In this paper we investigate how ordinary people interpret the pointing behavior of a leading state-of-the-art service robot that has been designed to work closely with people. We tested three hypotheses about how robot pointing is interpreted. The most surprising finding was that the direction and pitch of the robot’s head was important in some conditions.

  • Longitudinal Analysis of Wildcard Certificates in the WebPKI
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 IFIP NETWORKING CONFERENCE, IFIP NETWORKING. - : IEEE. - 9783903176577 - 9798350339383
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of wildcard certificates and multi-domain certificates can impact how sensitive a certificate is to attacks and how many (sub)domains and machines may be impacted if a private key is compromised. Unfortunately, there are no globally agreed-upon best practices for these certificate types and the recommendations have changed many times over the years. In this paper, we present a 10-year longitudinal analysis of the usage of wildcard certificates and multi-domain certificates on the internet. Our analysis captures and highlights substantial differences in the heterogenous wildcard and multi-domain certificate practices. The results also show that there are several ways that CAs and domain owners have chosen to improve their practices, with many appearing to reduce the number of domains (and subdomains) for which each certificate is responsible.

  • BlocklyVR : Exploring Block-based Programming in Virtual Reality
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: MUM'23: Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Mobile and Ubiquitous Multimedia. - : Association for Computing Machinery. - 9798400709210 ; , s. 251-263
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As programming is typically a static activity in front of a screen, we perform an initial exploration around the capabilities of block-based programming in the immersive space using Virtual Reality (VR) to make an early charting on how programming could involve moving the programmer's body. We created a block-based programming interface in a VR space called BlocklyVR based on the existing Blockly programming environment. To investigate programmer performance and experience in BlocklyVR, we conducted a controlled lab experiment (N = 20) with eight programming tasks that covered mathematical operations, if-statements, and function creation. Our initial exploration contributes by classifying movement types made by BlocklyVR programmers and reflecting on how these movements are related to the programming tasks. Additionally, our data suggests that participant performance in BlocklyVR was not affected compared to the 2D Blockly, even if participants were physically moving in VR space. We also found that the virtual reality sickness was marginal. Lastly, we identified four types of interaction that can potentially be employed by VR designers and developers aiming to convert a static task, like programming at a desk, into a "mobile"immersive experience. © 2023 Owner/Author.
