  • A comprehensive system for leader evaluation and development
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Leadership & Organization Development Journal. - : Emerald. - 0143-7739 .- 1472-5347. ; 24:1, s. 16-25
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim was to describe the development of a theoretical model for leader evaluation and development, an instrument based on this model, and a strategy for large scale implementation in the Swedish armed forces. The model rests on an interactional person by situation paradigm. It emphasises “developmental leadership”, which is inspired by transformational and functionalistic leadership approaches. The developmental leadership questionnaire (DLQ) was operationalised from the model and refined through structural equation modelling. The model and the DLQ will be used for three purposes: yearly evaluation of all personnel in the Swedish armed forces; yearly planning dialogues between each employee and his or her nearest supervisor; and a tool for leadership training. The implementation strategy includes an initial course in developmental leadership for all colonels. This is followed by the selection and training of local trainers, who, in turn, initiate the comprehensive programme locally. The system should be fully implemented by 2005.

  • Military utility : A proposed concept to support decision-making
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Technology in society. - : Elsevier. - 0160-791X .- 1879-3274. ; 43, s. 23-32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A concept called Military Utility is proposed for the study of the use of technology in military operations. The proposed concept includes a three-level structure representing key features and their detailed components. On basic level the Military Utility of a technical system, to a military actor, in a specific context, is a compound measure of the military effectiveness, of the assessed technical system's suitability to the military capability system and of the affordability. The concept is derived through conceptual analysis and is based on related concepts used in social sciences, the military domain and Systems Engineering. It is argued that the concept has qualitative explanatory powers and can support military decision-making regarding technology in forecasts, defense planning, development, utilization and the lessons learned process. The suggested concept is expected to contribute to the development of the science of Military-Technology and to be found useful to actors related to defense.

  • Lärobok i Militärteknik, vol. 9 : Teori och metod
  • 2013. - 1

  • Technology Forecast 2021 – Military Utility of Future Technologies
  • 2021
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • For the purpose of Technology Forecast 2021 five reports from the German Fraunhofer Institute were chosen by FMV (and SwAF) and given to Systems Science for Defence and Security Division to analyse and assess within the timeframe up to 2040.The following research reports were reviewed by the working group at SEDU:·       Adversarial Machine Learning ·       High Entropy Ceramics·       Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicles·       Living Sensors·       Machine Learning in Materials DevelopmentThe aim of the Technology Forecast seminars and the finished product, this report, is to assess the potential military utility of the reviewed technologies and how they may contribute to the Swedish Armed Forces’ operational capabilities based on the presented concept(s) and scenario(s). The military utility is categorised by one of four assessments: Significant, Moderate, Negligible or Uncertain. The following technologies were assessed to potentially have significant military utility:·       High Entropy Ceramics·       Machine Learning in Materials Development·       Adversarial Machine LearningThe following technology was assessed to potentially have moderate military utility:·       Large Unmanned Underwater Vehicles The following technology was assessed to have uncertain military utility:·       Living Sensors

  • Conditions affecting experiences of the quality of psychological debriefings : Preliminary findings from a grounded theory study
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Emergency Mental Health. - 1522-4821. ; 1:2, s. 91-97
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of the study was to develop a theoretical understanding of conditions and mechanisms affecting experiences of the quality of emotional debriefings, using a grounded theory approach. Twenty interviews were conducted with experienced male debriefing leaders and participants in the Stockholm fire brigade and the Swedish armored United Nations battalions serving in Bosnia. Data were analyzed according to the constant comparative method. A model was formulated according to which the quality of debriefings is formed by the dynamic interplay between group and debriefing leader characteristics. The key group and debriefing leader quality is security. Furthermore, individual group member resourcefulness and vulnerability, together with the degree of knowledge and support from the management of the organization, also affect experiences of the quality of debriefings. The model is discussed in relation to existing thoughts on potentially favorable mechanisms.
