Odling av fiskyngel i kylvattenrecipienter

- Försök med odling av fiskyngel från larvstadiet till en för utsättningar ändamålsenlig storlek har genomförts i kylvattenrecipienterna för kraftverken i Oskarshamn och Forsmark. Abborre (Percafluviatilis) och gös (Stizostedium lucioperca) har använts som modellarter. Ett odlingssystem med flytande täta odlingskassar har utvecklats, och den enda födokällan har varit naturligt zooplankton, som insamlats med för ändamålet utvecklade anrikningssystem. Ljusets betydelse för tillväxt och överlevnad har studerats. Belysning av odlingskassama under hela dygnet har visat sig gynna tillväxten. Vidare har yngeltäthetens betydelse i relation till födotillgången undersökts. Abborre har odlats i höga tätheter med upp till 82% överlevnad och god tillväxt. Vid odlingförsök i Forsmark producerades som bäst i en enhet besatt med 25 000 abborrlarver ca 7 000 yngel med en längd av ca 3 cm; överlevnaden var alltså 28%. Gösyngel har odlats vid Oskarshamnsverket. Det sista försöksåret producerades diygt 2 000 yngel. Kannibalism har orsakat betydande mortalitet; överlevnaden var som bäst 12%. Kannibalismens orsaker diskuteras och förslag till förebyggande åtgärder framföres.

Stabilization of evanescent wave propagation operators

- This paper presents a stabilized scheme that solves the wave propagation problem in a general bianisotropic, stratified medium. The method utilizes the concept of propagators, i.e., the wave propagation operators that map the total tangential electric and magnetic fields from one plane in the slab to another. The scheme transforms the propagator approach into a scattering matrix form, where a spectral decomposition of the propagator enables separation of the exponentially growing and decaying terms in order to obtain a well-conditioned formulation. Multilayer structures can be handled in a stable manner using the dissipative property of the Redheffer star product for cascading scattering matrices. The reflection and transmission dyadics for a general bianisotropic medium with an isotropic half space on both sides of the slab are presented in a coordinate-independent dyadic notation, as well as the reflection dyadic for a bianisotropic slab with perfect electric conductor backing (PEC). Several numerical examples that illustrate the performance of the stabilized algorithm are presented.

- Denna bok har formen av en antologi och är en dokumentation av vad som skett sedan 1990 inom kulturgeografisk utbildning och forskning vid högskolan och sedermera universitetet i Karlstad, men framförallt är den också en fyllig provkarta på den forskning som idag bedrivs vid ämnet. Boken omfattar nitton artiklar i vilka sammantaget sjutton författare medverkar. De inledande artiklarna har karaktären av krönikor över ämnets utveckling, över framlagda doktorsavhandlingar, över det internationella forskningssamarbetet inom det s.k. PIMA-nätverket och över den regionala utvecklingen i Värmland. De därpå följande artiklarna behandlar ett brett spektrum av kulturgeografiska forskningsfält och ämnesvetenskapliga reflektioner och speglar därmed den mångfald av forskningsinriktningar och forskningsansatser som finns representerade bland kulturgeograferna i Karlstad. I den avslutande artikeln riktas blickarna och tankarna framåt mot det som kan komma ut av nuet.

- The effective electric and magnetic material properties of a complex (twocomponent) mixture are addressed. The mixture is periodic in two directions and has a finite thickness in the third direction. Specifically,the explicit problem of finding the effective electric parameters for slab that has been reinforced by a layer (or several layers) of glass fiber is investigated. The homogenization problem is solved by a series expansion (multiple-scale technique),and the numerical solution of the two-dimensional vector-valued problem is found by a FEM formulation. The FEM problem is non-standard due to the periodic boundary conditions of the problem. Several numerical computations show that the most important parameter of the effective permittivity is the volume fraction of the guest material in the host. The reflection and transmission properties of the homogenized material are also addressed.

- In this paper a systematic analysis that solves the wave propagation problem in a general bianisotropic, stratified media is presented. The method utilizes the concept of propagators, and the representation of these operators is simpli- fied by introducing the Cayley-Hamilton theorem. The propagators propagate the total tangential electric and magnetic fields in the slab and only outside the slab the up/down-going parts of the fields need to be identified. This procedure makes the physical interpretation of the theory intuitive. The re- flection and the transmission dyadics for a general bianisotropic medium with an isotropic (vacuum) half space on both sides of the slab are presented in a coordinate-independent dyadic notation, as well as the reflection dyadic for a bianisotropic slab with perfectly electric backing (PEC). In the latter case the current on the metal backing is also given. Some numerical computations that illustrate the algorithm are presented.
