  • Measurement of Lambda baryon polarization in e(+) e(-) -> Lambda(Lambda)over-bar at root s=3.773 GeV
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : American Physical Society. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 105:1
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a data sample of psi(3770) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb-1, we report a measurement of A spin polarization in e+ e- -> Lambda(Lambda) over bar at = root s = 3.773 GeV. The significance of polarization is found to be 2 sigma including the systematic uncertainty, which implies a zero phase between the transition amplitudes of the Lambda(Lambda) over bar helicity states. This phase can be interpreted in terms of psionic form factors, and is determined to be Delta Phi(Psi) = Phi(Psi)(E) - Phi(Psi)(M) = (71(-46)(+66) +/- 5)degrees. Similarly, the ratio between the form factors is found to be R-psi = vertical bar G(E)(Psi)/G(M)(Psi)vertical bar = 0.48(-0.35)(+0.21) +/- 0.03. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

  • Energy end-use and efficiency potentials among Swedish industrial small and medium-sized enterprises - A dataset analysis from the national energy audit program
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Renewable & sustainable energy reviews. - : PERGAMON-ELSEVIER SCIENCE LTD. - 1364-0321 .- 1879-0690. ; 93, s. 165-177
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Improving energy efficiency in industry is recognized as one of the most vital activities for the mitigation of climate change. Consequently, policy initiatives from governments addressing both energy-intensive and small and medium-sized industry have been enacted. In this paper, the energy end-use and the energy efficiency potential among industrial small and medium-sized companies participating in the Swedish Energy Audit Program are reviewed. The three manufacturing industries of wood and cork, food products and metal products (excluding machinery and equipment) are studied. A unique categorization of their production processes energy end-use is presented, the results of which show that the amount of energy used in various categories of production processes differ between these industries. This applies to support processes as well, highlighting the problem of generalizing results without available bottom-up energy end-use data. In addition, a calculation of conservation supply curves for measures related to production processes is presented, showing that there still remains energy saving potential among companies participating in the Swedish Energy Audit Program. However, relevant data in the database used from the Swedish Energy Audit Program is lacking which limits the conclusions that can be drawn from the conservation supply curves. This study highlights the need to develop energy policy programs delivering high-quality data. This paper contributes to a further understanding of the intricate matters of industrial energy end-use and energy efficiency measures.

  • A Systematic Review of Longitudinal Trajectories of Mental Health Problems in Children with Neurodevelopmental Disabilities
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Developmental and Physical Disabilities. - : Springer. - 1056-263X .- 1573-3580.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To review the longitudinal trajectories - and the factors influencing their development - of mental health problems in children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Systematic review methods were employed. Searches of six databases used keywords and MeSH terms related to children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, mental health problems, and longitudinal research. After the removal of duplicates, reviewers independently screened records for inclusion, extracted data (outcomes and influencing factors), and evaluated the risk of bias. Findings were tabulated and synthesized using graphs and a narrative. Searches identified 94,662 unique records, from which 49 publications were included. The median publication year was 2015. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder were the most commonly included population in retrieved studies. In almost 50% of studies, trajectories of mental health problems changed by < 10% between the first and last time point. Despite multiple studies reporting longitudinal trajectories of mental health problems, greater conceptual clarity and consideration of the measures included in research is needed, along with the inclusion of a more diverse range of populations of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities.

  • Surgery for urinary incontinence in women 65 years and older : a systematic review
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: International Urogynecology Journal. - : Springer. - 0937-3462 .- 1433-3023. ; 26:8, s. 1095-1102
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction and hypothesis: Urinary incontinence (UI) is common among the elderly, but the literature is sparse on the surgical treatment of UI among the elderly. This systematic review aims to assess the effectiveness of surgical interventions as treatment for urinary incontinence in the elderly population ≥65 years of age. Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCT) and prospective nonrandomized studies (NRS) were included. The databases PubMed (NLM), EMBASE (Elsevier), Cochrane Library (Wiley), and Cinahl (EBSCO) were searched for the period 1966 up to October 2013. The population had to be ≥65 years of age and had to have undergone urethral sling procedures, periurethral injection of bulking agents, artificial urinary sphincter surgery, bladder injection treatment with onabotulinumtoxin A or sacral neuromodulation treatment. Eligible outcomes were episodes of incontinence/urine leakage, adverse events, and quality of life. The studies included had to be at a moderate or low risk of bias. Mean difference (MD) or standard mean difference (SMD)as well as risk difference (RD) and the 95 % CI were calculated. Results: Five studies-all on the suburethral sling procedure in women- that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were identified. The proportion of patients reporting persistent SUI after surgery ranged from 5.2 to 17.6 %. One study evaluating quality of life (QoL) showed a significant improvement after surgery. The complication rates varied between 1 and 26 %, mainly bladder perforation, bladder emptying disturbances, and de novo urge. Conclusion: The suburethral sling procedure improves continence as well as QoL among elderly women with SUI; however, evidence is limited.

  • Breathalyser-Based eHealth Data Suggest That Self-Reporting of Abstinence Is a Poor Outcome Measure for Alcohol Use Disorder Clinical Trials
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Alcohol and Alcoholism. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 0735-0414 .- 1464-3502. ; 55:3, s. 237-245
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aims: To evaluate the efficacy and monitoring capabilities of a breathalyser-based eHealth system for patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD) and to investigate the quality and validity of timeline follow-back (TLFB) as outcome measure in clinical trials and treatment. Methods: Patients (n = 115) were recruited to clinical trials from a 12-step aftercare programme (12S-ABS) and from hospital care with abstinence (HC-ABS) or controlled drinking (HC-CDR) as goal and randomly divided into an eHealth and a control group. The effect of the eHealth system was analysed with TLFB-derived primary outcomes-change in number of abstinent days (AbsDay) and heavy drinking days (HDDs) compared to baseline-and phosphatidyl ethanol (PEth) measurements. Validity and quality of TLFB were evaluated by comparison with breath alcohol content (BrAC) and eHealth digital biomarkers (DBs): Addiction Monitoring Index (AMI) and Maximum Time Between Tests (MTBT). TLFB reports were compared to eHealth data regarding reported abstinence. Results: The primary outcome (TLFB) showed no significant difference between eHealth and control groups, but PEth did show a significant difference especially at months 2 and 3. Self-reported daily abstinence suffered from severe quality issues: of the 28-day TLFB reports showing full abstinence eHealth data falsified 34% (BrAC measurements), 39% (MTBT), 54% (AMI) and 68% (BrAC/MTBT/AMI). 12S-ABS and HC-ABS patients showed severe under-reporting.Conclusions: No effect of the eHealth system was measured with TLFB, but a small positive effect was measured with PEth. The eHealth system revealed severe quality problems with TLFB, especially regarding abstinence-should measurement-based eHealth data replace TLFB as outcome measure for AUD?

  • Structures of the high-valent metal-ion haem-oxygen intermediates in peroxidases, oxygenases and catalases
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Inorganic Biochemistry. - : Elsevier BV. - 1873-3344 .- 0162-0134. ; 100:4, s. 460-476
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Peroxidases, oxygenases and catalases have similar high-valent metal-ion intermediates in their respective reaction cycles. In this review, haem-based examples will be discussed. The intermediates of the haem-containing enzymes have been extensively studied for many years by different spectroscopic methods like UV-Vis, EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance), resonance Raman, Mossbauer and MCD (magnetic circular dichroism). The first crystal structure of one of these high-valent intermediates was on cytochrome c peroxidase in 1987. Since then, structures have appeared for catalases in 1996, 2002, 2003, putatively for cytochrome P450 in 2000, for myoglobin in 2002, for horseradish peroxidase in 2002 and for cytochrome c peroxidase again in 1994 and 2003. This review will focus on the most recent structural investigations for the different intermediates of these proteins. The structures of these intermediates will also be viewed in light of quantum mechanical (QM) calculations on haem models. In particular quantum refinement, which is a combination of QM calculations and crystallography, will be discussed. Only small structural changes accompany the generation of these intermediates. The crystal structures show that the compound I state, with a so called pi-cation radical on the haem group, has a relatively short iron-oxygen bond (1.67-1.76 A) in agreement with a double-bond character, while the compound 11 state or the compound I state with a radical on an amino acid residue have a relatively long iron-oxygen bond (1.86-1.92 angstrom) in agreement with a single-bond character where the oxygen-atom is protonated.

  • On the Use of In Silico Tools for Prioritising Toxicity Testing of the Low-Volume Industrial Chemicals in REACH
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Basic & Clinical Pharmacology & Toxicology. - : Wiley. - 1742-7835 .- 1742-7843. ; 115:1, s. 77-87
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study was conducted to evaluate the utility of a selection of commercially and freely available non-testing tools and to analyse how REACH registrants can apply these as prioritisation tool for low-volume chemicals. The analysis was performed on a set of organic industrial chemicals and pesticides with extensive peer-reviewed risk assessment data. Analysed in silico model systems included Derek Nexus, Toxtree, QSAR Toolbox, LAZAR, TEST and VEGA, and results from these were compared with expert-judged risk classification according to the classifying, labelling and packaging (CLP) regulation. The most reliable results were obtained for carcinogenicity; however, less reliable predictions were derived for mutagenicity and reproductive toxicity. A group of compounds frequently predicted as false negatives was identified. These were relatively small molecules with low structural complexity, for example benzene derivatives with hydroxyl-, amino- or aniline-substituents. A rat liver S9 metabolite simulator was applied to illustrate the importance of considering metabolism in the risk assessment procedure. We also discuss outcome of combining predictions from multiple model systems and advise how to apply in silico tools. These models are proposed to be used to prioritise low-volume chemicals for testing within the REACH legislation, and we conclude that further guidance is needed so that industry can select and apply models in a reliable, systematic and transparent way.

  • The effect of conservative treatment of urinary incontinence among older and frail older people : a systematic review
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Age and Ageing. - Oxford, United Kingdom : Oxford University Press. - 0002-0729 .- 1468-2834. ; 44:5, s. 736-744
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: urinary incontinence (UI) is a common symptom among older people, with a higher prevalence among frail older persons living in nursing homes. Despite consequences such as reduced health and quality of life, many older people do not seek help for their symptoms, resulting in missed opportunity for treatment. Objective: the aim of this study was to investigate the evidence and the effect of conservative treatment of UI and the quality of life among older and frail older persons. Methods: a systematic review of randomised controlled studies and prospective, non-randomised studies was conducted, evaluating interventions of conservative treatment of UI in an older population (65 years or older). A total of 23 studies fulfilled the inclusion criteria and 9 were of high or moderate quality. Fourteen studies were of low quality and were therefore excluded from the analysis. Results: documented and effective conservative treatments are available even for older persons with UI. Pelvic muscle exercise, physical training in combination with ADL, prompted voiding and attention training, and help to toilet are important treatments. In some studies, however, the evidence of effectiveness is limited. Conclusions: this systematic review concludes that there are conservative treatments for UI for older and frail older persons that reduce leakage and increase quality of life. There is however a need for further high-quality studies.

  • The potential of non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic targets in the treatment of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome.
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Journal of physiology and pharmacology. - 1899-1505. ; 63:3, s. 209-216
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Regulation of bladder function involves both divisions of the autonomic nervous system. However, in addition to the classical autonomic transmitters, noradrenaline and acetylcholine, other autonomic transmitters and other signalling components play important roles in physiology and pathophysiology of the lower urinary tract. Several substances of neuronal non-adrenergic, non-cholinergic (NANC) systems have already proven to considerably influence functional responses in the inflamed urinary bladder. Interstitial cystitis (IC) or painful bladder syndrome (PBS) is a chronic inflammatory bladder disease, characterized by urinary frequency, urgency and pelvic pain. IC/PBS is difficult to diagnose, especially because the etiology of the condition is largely unknown. Despite the unclear nature of the cause and manifestation of IC/PBS, it has been shown that the disease involves a significant NANC component. Here, we review the possible roles of ATP, adenosine, nitric oxide, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide, substance P, and pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide in the contribution to IC/PBS development and manifestation of IC/PBS symptoms.
