  • Bulk hydrometeor optical properties for microwave and sub-millimetre radiative transfer in RTTOV-SCATT v13.0
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Geoscientific Model Development. - : Copernicus GmbH. - 1991-959X .- 1991-9603. ; 14:12, s. 7497-7526
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Satellite observations of radiation in the microwave and sub-millimetre spectral regions (broadly from 1 to 1000 GHz) can have strong sensitivity to cloud and precipitation particles in the atmosphere. These particles (known as hydrometeors) scatter, absorb, and emit radiation according to their mass, composition, shape, internal structure, and orientation. Hence, microwave and sub-millimetre observations have applications including weather forecasting, geophysical retrievals and model validation. To simulate these observations requires a scattering-capable radiative transfer model and an estimate of the bulk optical properties of the hydrometeors. This article describes the module used to integrate single-particle optical properties over a particle size distribution (PSD) to provide bulk optical properties for the Radiative Transfer for TOVS microwave and sub-millimetre scattering code, RTTOV-SCATT, a widely used fast model. Bulk optical properties can be derived from a range of particle models including Mie spheres (liquid and frozen) and non-spherical ice habits from the Liu and Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator (ARTS) databases, which include pristine crystals, aggregates, and hail. The effects of different PSD and particle options on simulated brightness temperatures are explored, based on an analytical two-stream solution for a homogeneous cloud slab. The hydrometeor scattering "spectrum" below 1000 GHz is described, along with its sensitivities to particle composition (liquid or ice), size and shape. The optical behaviour of frozen particles changes in the frequencies above 200 GHz, moving towards an optically thick and emission-dominated regime more familiar from the infrared. This region is little explored but will soon be covered by the Ice Cloud Imager (ICI).

  • Catalytic hydrogenation of CO2 to methane over supported Pd, Rh and Ni catalysts
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Catalysis Science and Technology. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2044-4753 .- 2044-4761. ; 7:5, s. 1086-1094
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As a step in production of so-called electrofuels, ambient pressure CO2 hydrogenation has been investigated over different catalytic model systems based on metal particles (Pd, Rh and Ni) supported on various metal oxides (SiO2, Al2O3 and CeO2) and aluminosilicates (ZSM-5 and MCM-41) at different specific reactant ratios and temperatures between 150 and 450 degrees C. Catalytic activity and selectivity measurements in a flow reactor show that the highest CO2 conversion towards methane is obtained for the Rh/Al2O3 and Rh/CeO2 catalysts, followed by Ni/CeO2. Generally, the results suggest that both the support material and reaction conditions play an important role in the hydrogenation process. Further, in situ diffusive reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy reveals the intermediate species during transient CO2 hydrogenation over the Rh and Ni containing catalysts. Adsorption and dissociation of CO2 occurs over the Rh/Al2O3 catalyst in the presence of H-2, resulting in the formation of linear Rh-CO species, while formates and carbonates are formed over the Rh/CeO2 and Ni/CeO2 catalysts, likely at the metal-support interface.

  • 2016
  • Ingår i: New Biotechnology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1876-4347 .- 1871-6784.
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The REvolutionary Approaches and Devices for Nucleic Acid analysis (READNA) project received funding from the European Commission for 4 1/2 years. The objectives of the project revolved around technological developments in nucleic acid analysis. The project partners have discovered, created and developed a huge body of insights into nucleic acid analysis, ranging from improvements and implementation of current technologies to the most promising sequencing technologies that constitute a 3(rd) and 4(th) generation of sequencing methods with nanopores and in situ sequencing, respectively.

  • The 4f-Hybridization Strength in CemMnIn3m+2n Heavy-Fermion Compounds Studied by Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics Letters. - : IOP Publishing. - 0256-307X .- 1741-3540. ; 38:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We systemically investigate the nature of Ce 4f electrons in structurally layered heavy-fermion compounds CemMnIn3m+2n (with M = Co, Rh, Jr, and Pt, m = 1, 2, n = 0-2), at low temperature using on-resonance angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Three heavy quasiparticle bands f(0), f(7/2)(1) and f(5/2)(1), are observed in all compounds, whereas their intensities and energy locations vary greatly with materials. The strong f(0) states imply that the localized electron behavior dominates the Ce 4f states. The Ce 4f electrons are partially hybridized with the conduction electrons, making them have the dual nature of localization and itinerancy. Our quantitative comparison reveals that the f(5/2)(1)-f (0) intensity ratio is more suitable to reflect the 4f-state hybridization strength.

  • Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy view on the nature of Ce 4f electrons in the antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CePd5Al2
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9969 .- 2469-9950. ; 103:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report an angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy study of the antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CePd5Al2, focusing on the quasi-two-dimensional k-space nature of its Fermi surface and, tuning photon energy to the Ce 4d-4f on-resonance transition, the hybridization of the Ce 4f state. A strong shoulder feature on the f0 peak was detected, suggesting hybridization between conduction and f bands. On-resonance spectra revealed narrow, yet hybridized quasiparticle bands with sharp peaks and ∼ 9 meV energy dispersion near the Fermi energy EF. The observed dispersive hybridized f band can be well described by a hybridization-band picture based on the periodic Anderson model (PAM). Hence, the 4f electrons in CePd5Al2 display a dual nature, with both localized and itinerant features, but with dominantly localized character.

  • Antiferromagnetic order in Kondo lattice CePd5Al2 possibly driven by nesting
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - : American Physical Society (APS). - 2469-9950 .- 2469-9969. ; 108:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigated the electronic structure of the antiferromagnetic Kondo lattice CePd5Al2 using high-resolution angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. The experimentally determined band structure of the conduction electrons is predominated by the Pd 4d character. It contains multiple hole and electron Fermi pockets, in good agreement with density functional theory calculations. The Fermi surface is folded over Q0=(0,0,1), manifested by Fermi surface reconstruction and band folding. Our results suggest that Fermi surface nesting drives the formation of antiferromagnetic order in CePd5Al2.
