  • Teaching finger patterns for arithmetic development to preschoolers
  • 2018
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we describe the empirical and theoretical meaning behind how finger patterns are taught to facilitate the development of preschool children’s perception of the first ten natural numbers. An intervention programme, informed by Variation theory of learning, included 65 five-year-olds and teachers at seven preschool departments in Sweden. The programme aimed at developing teaching activities and artefacts to promote children discerning necessary aspects of the first ten numbers. The design of the programme is significant to describe and evaluate as basis for forthcoming analyses of the learning outcomes, as a pedagogical approach that stands in contrast to common preschool teaching practice in Sweden is adopted.

  • Exploring logistics-related environmental sustainability in large retailers
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 0959-0552 .- 1758-6690. ; 44:1, s. 38-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose– The purpose of this paper is to explore and illustrate ways in which the world’s largest retailers describe their logistics-related environmental considerations, their environmental indicators applied to measure the effects of these considerations and their environmental consciousness in their CSR reports.Design/methodology/approach– Classification models are developed via a literature review on logistics-related environmental considerations, indicators and consciousness. A content analysis approach is then applied to examine CSR reports from 12 of the world’s largest retailers.Findings– Few retailers show environmental considerations in all logistics activities, but purchasing is especially well described. Even if many retailers claim to use the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) framework, no one uses is completely. Judging consciousness from CSR reports raised a number of questions.Research limitations/implications– A contribution to theory is the development of two classification models. The first provides a description structure for environmental considerations related to logistics activities. The second expands the GRI indicator framework by incorporating a structure for logistics activities.Practical implications– The classification models developed can be an important mean for managers and also consumers to judge the environmental sustainability of retailers by their CSR reports.Social implications– The study makes a social contribution with its input on sustainability and especially environmental issues.Originality/value– Few studies have focused upon environmentally sustainable logistics in retail chains, and even fewer address how to measure environmental sustainability in this context.

  • Green distribution options in e-commerce : Display versus content
  • 2021
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Purpose: Lately, some e-commerce retailers have started displaying climate labels – i.e., eco-labels focusing on greenhouse gas emissions – on distribution or fulfilment alternatives in the check-out of the online store. Using actual purchase data, the purpose of this research is to understand the impact of climate labelling on customers’ choice of fulfillment.Design/methodology/approach: We analyse six months of customer checkout data from a market-leading pharmacy in Northern Europe using a nested logit formulation.Findings: We find that climate labels have a large and significant impact on the probability that a fulfillment alternative is selected by the customer. Further, if the label is attached to a top alternative, it increases the probability that the alternative is chosen. We also find that preselection has a strong effect on the impact of climate labels.Research limitations/implications:We note that climate labelling seems to have a strong impact on customer behavior, it opens up several venues for further research. For instance, there may be other relevant ways to slice the data to bring additional insights. And as climate labelling from more “well-known” labels are being used in e-commerce, the impact might be different.Research limitations/implications: The results have implications for retailers and logistics service providers alike, by indicating both how the content of the fulfillment option and the display of the option in the check-out impacts the business. The results further underline the importance of coordination between retailers and logistics service providers to provide support to consumers.Original/value: Contrary to previous research into greening e-commerce distribution, this paper takes a quantitative approach to address green consumer preferences.
