  • A Generalized method for weld Load balancing in multi station sheet metal assembly lines
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the ASME 2011 International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition IMECE2011 November 11-17, 2011, Denver, Colorado, USA.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sheet metal assembly is investment intense. Therefore the equipment needs to be efficiently utilized. The balancing of welds has a significant influence on achievable production rate and equipment utilization. Robot line balancing is a complex problem, where each weld is to be assigned to a specific station and robot, such that line cycle time is minimized. Industrial robot line balancing has been manually conducted, based on experience and trial and error rather than mathematical methods. However, recently an automatic method for robot line balancing was proposed by the authors. To reduce robot coordination cycle time losses, this method requires identical reach ability of all line stations. This limits applicability considerably since in most industrial lines, reach ability differs over the stations to further line reach ability and flexibility. Therefore, in this work we propose a novel generalized simulation-based method for automatic robot line balancing that allows any robot positioning. It reduces the need for robot coordination significantly by spatially separating the robot weld work loads. This is furthermore achieved at a cost neglectable to line cycle time. The proposed method is furthermore successfully demonstrated on an automotive stud welding line. Moreover, algorithm CPU-times is a mere fraction of corresponding manual optimization times.

  • Automated Generation of Discrete Event System Simulation Models for Flexible Automation
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: The 21st International Conference on Flexible Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing. - 9789868729100 ; , s. 825-832, s. 825-832
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Flexible automation cells with rapid product changes are an important competitive advantage for industries today. These cells can increase a company’s productivity and thereby increase their profits. A flexible cell shall be able to handle different products with none or minimal changes to the cell itself. A powerful tool, which can be used to analyse and verify such cells, is discrete event system simulation. Problems such as potential bottlenecks, deadlocks, answers to "what-if" questions and the level of resource utilisation can be gathered. The drawback of discrete event system simulation is that the modelling task is both time consuming and difficult to accomplish. Furthermore, state-of-the-art discrete event system simulation tools that are used in the industry today are not suitable for flexible automation. If the production scenario is changed, e.g. introduction of a new product, the simulation and modelling has to be redone and this is both time consuming and tedious. In this paper a new approach will be presented that enables discrete event simulation models to be generated automatically. The models are generated from information retrieved from a PLM/PDM database system, which is shared among other engineering tools such as robot simulation, CAD and process planning. Hence, when the cell and the database are updated a new model can easily be generated. The database is also connected to the real cell so up-to-date data can be retrieved from the real cell. The model generator described in this paper was implemented and tested in a discrete event system simulation tool and showed promising results. With this approach it is possible to handle flexible automation cells more effectively in a process planning stage.

  • Methods for Reliable Simulation-Based PLC Code Verification
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics. - 1941-0050 .- 1551-3203. ; 8:2, s. 267-278
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Simulation-based programmable logic controller (PLC) code verification is a part of virtual commissioning, where the control code is verified against a virtual prototype of an application. With today's general OPC interface, it is easy to connect a PLC to a simulation tool for, e. g., verification purposes. However, there are some problems with this approach that can lead to an unreliable verification result. In this paper, four major problems with the OPC interface are described, and two possible solutions to the problems are presented: a general IEC 61131-3-based software solution, and a new OPC standard solution.

  • Effects of a Vegetarian Diet on Cardiometabolic Risk Factors, Gut Microbiota, and Plasma Metabolome in Subjects With Ischemic Heart Disease: A Randomized, Crossover Study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Heart Association. - : Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Inc.. - 2047-9980. ; 9:18, s. e016518-e016518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background A vegetarian diet (VD) may reduce future cardiovascular risk in patients with ischemic heart disease. Methods and Results A randomized crossover study was conducted in subjects with ischemic heart disease, assigned to 4-week intervention periods of isocaloric VD and meat diet (MD) with individually designed diet plans, separated by a 4-week washout period. The primary outcome was difference in oxidized low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) between diets. Secondary outcomes were differences in cardiometabolic risk factors, quality of life, gut microbiota, fecal short-chain and branched-chain fatty acids, and plasma metabolome. Of 150 eligible patients, 31 (21%) agreed to participate, and 27 (87%) participants completed the study. Mean oxidized LDL-C (-2.73 U/L), total cholesterol (-5.03 mg/dL), LDL-C (-3.87 mg/dL), and body weight (-0.67 kg) were significantly lower with the VD than with the MD. Differences between VD and MD were observed in the relative abundance of several microbe genera within the families Ruminococcaceae, Lachnospiraceae, and Akkermansiaceae. Plasma metabolites, including l-carnitine, acylcarnitine metabolites, and phospholipids, differed in subjects consuming VD and MD. The effect on oxidized LDL-C in response to the VD was associated with a baseline gut microbiota composition dominated by several genera of Ruminococcaceae. Conclusions The VD in conjunction with optimal medical therapy reduced levels of oxidized LDL-C, improved cardiometabolic risk factors, and altered the relative abundance of gut microbes and plasma metabolites in patients with ischemic heart disease. Our results suggest that composition of the gut microbiota at baseline may be related to the reduction of oxidized LDL-C observed with the VD. • Influence of the Carbon–Carbon Bond Order and Silver Loading on the Formation of Surface Species and Gas Phase Oxidation Products in Absence and Presence of NOx over Silver-Alumina Catalysts
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: ACS Catalysis. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2155-5435. ; 2:8, s. 1615-1623
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of carbon–carbon bond order, here systematically represented by prototypical C2H6, C2H4, and C2H2, on the formation of oxidation products and surface species in the absence and presence of NO has been studied for silver-alumina catalysts with different silver loadings (2 and 6 wt %). The catalysts were prepared with a sol–gel method including freeze-drying, which results in small silver species uniformly distributed throughout the alumina matrix. The performance of the catalysts was investigated by temperature programmed extinction-ignition experiments using a continuous gas flow reactor. The evolution of surface species during reactant step-response experiments was studied in situ by diffuse reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results show that activation for oxidation generally proceeds more easily with increasing bond order of the hydrocarbon. For example, C2H2 shows the highest conversion at low temperatures. Furthermore, the use of hydrocarbons with high bond order, that is, C2H2, as reductant for lean NOx reduction results not only in the highest peak activity but also in considerable high activity in a wide temperature range mainly thanks to high activity at low temperature. With increasing silver loading, the oxidation reactions are favored such that both the hydrocarbon and the NO activation occur at lower temperatures. Several types of adsorbates, for example, carbonate, acetate, formate, enolic and isocyanate/cyanide surface species, are present on the catalyst during reaction. Generally the nature of the surface species and likely also the surface processes are more influenced by the carbon–carbon bond order than the silver loading. This needs to be considered when designing catalysts for emission control systems. Especially for applications using homogeneous fuels with short hydrocarbons, this may provide opportunities to tailor the catalyst functionality for the needs at hand.
