  • Female Policymakers and Educational Expenditures : Cross-Country Evidence
  • 2008
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper investigates the influence of women in politics on decision-making using public educational expenditures as the outcome of interest. The results suggest that an increase in the share of female legislators by one percentage point increases the ratio of educational expenditures to GDP by 0.028 percentage points. I then consider some contexts, on which the influence of female legislators may depend. The effect of female legislators on educational policies is strengthened accounting for forms of government, but not influenced by left-wing government, electoral rules, parliamentary system and non-marriage. Moreover, this study supports the hypothesis that the identity of the legislator matters for policy.

  • Verification, validation and evaluation of FireFOAM as a tool for performance based design
  • 2018
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The open source CFD code FireFOAM has been verified and validated against analytical solution and real fire tests. The verification showed that FireFOAM solves the three modes of heat transfer appropriately. The validation against real fire tests yielded reasonable results. FireFOAM has not been validated for a large set of real fires, which is the case for FDS. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the user to perform the validation, before using the code. One of the advantages of FireFOAM compared to the Fire Dynamic Simulator is that FireFOAM can use unstructured grid.FireFOAM is parallelised and scales reasonable well, but is in general considerably slower in computation speed than the Fire Dynamic Simulator. Further, the software is poorly documented and has a steep learning curve. At present it is more a tool for researchers than for fire consultants.

  • Session comparison measurement and learning in masquerading detection
  • 2004
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In applying command sequence matching to detect masquerading attack, the first important step is to build a user's profile for characterizing normal behavior. In this paper, we proposed a new approach which applies the comparison of arbitrary length of sessions to distinguish users. In this approach, a session is regarded as an integral comparison unit. This method makes it possible to locate command matches in historical command data for long sequences. The testing results show that the method can be used in creating a user's profile. Further, it will pave the road for future work in applying data mining technology to detect potential masqueraders.
