  • Current international research into cellulose as a functional nanomaterial for advanced applications
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Science. - : Springer Nature. - 0022-2461 .- 1573-4803. ; 57:10, s. 5697-5767
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This review paper provides a recent overview of current international research that is being conducted into the functional properties of cellulose as a nanomaterial. A particular emphasis is placed on fundamental and applied research that is being undertaken to generate applications, which are now becoming a real prospect given the developments in the field over the last 20 years. A short introduction covers the context of the work, and definitions of the different forms of cellulose nanomaterials (CNMs) that are most widely studied. We also address the terminology used for CNMs, suggesting a standard way to classify these materials. The reviews are separated out into theme areas, namely healthcare, water purification, biocomposites, and energy. Each section contains a short review of the field within the theme and summarizes recent work being undertaken by the groups represented. Topics that are covered include cellulose nanocrystals for directed growth of tissues, bacterial cellulose in healthcare, nanocellulose for drug delivery, nanocellulose for water purification, nanocellulose for thermoplastic composites, nanocellulose for structurally colored materials, transparent wood biocomposites, supercapacitors and batteries.

  • Experimental investigation on BOF slag oxidation in air
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Ironmaking & steelmaking. - : Taylor and Francis Ltd.. - 0301-9233 .- 1743-2812. ; 46:8, s. 747-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Basic oxygen furnace (BOF) slag contains a significant amount of iron-containing species, which is considered to be iron resources and therefore need to be recovered. In this work, the oxidation behaviour of BOF slag under air (at selected oxidation temperatures and holding time) was investigated to explore the potential of transforming non-magnetic wustite in the BOF slag into magnetic spinel, which may subsequently be recovered by magnetic separation. The experimental results show that the iron-containing spices in the BOF slag can be oxidised into magnetic spinel phases in the investigated temperature range of 1000–1150°C and thereafter be recovered by magnetic separation. The formation of these phases is closely related to the oxidation temperatures and holding time: a higher oxidation temperature and longer holding time lead to a larger amount of formed magnetic species; however, the amount of formed magnetic species decreases at elevated temperature (>1050°C) and with extended holding time (>40 min).

  • Kinetics of the Oxidation Modification Process of CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO Slag : [CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO体系钢渣的氧化改质动力学研究]
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Cailiao Daobao/Materials Review. - : Cailiao Daobaoshe/ Materials Review. - 1005-023X. ; 32:2, s. 650-656, 671
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An investigation of mineralogical phases in industrial slag transferred from non-magnetic to magnetic substances was carried out in this study, aiming at extraction of superfluous wustite and stabilization of free lime and free periclase. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) were employed to investigate the mineralogy and phase distribution. Wet magnetic separation was conducted to determine the recovery rate of iron. The thermodynamic and kine-tic calculations for the oxidation of steel slag in a CaO-SiO2-FeO-MgO system were also performed, and the results were compared with a CaO-SiO2-FeO system. XRD analysis and SEM-EDS observation confirmed the conversion from non-magnetic wustite to magnetite spinel (magnetite/magnesioferrite) after oxidation. Magnetic separation experiment indicated that the optimal oxidation temperature is 1 100℃, which coincided well with the thermodynamic calculations. The addition of periclase had a significant influence on the formation of spinel and leaded to the presence of spinel under a partial pressure of oxygen range log10(PO2)=4.3 (correspon-ding to air). The oxidation process of steel slag could be divided into three steps: initial incubation, chemical reaction and diffusion.

  • Grain-to-grain stress interactions in an electrodeposited iron coating
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Advanced Materials. - : Wiley. - 0935-9648 .- 1521-4095. ; 17:10, s. 1221-1226
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The distribution of residual stresses, in an iron electrolytic coating with the thickness of 1 mm, was discussed. It was found that the coating minimizes the influence of crystallographic texture and stress gradients. Scanning electron microscopy observations indicate that some cracks are produced in the direct current deposited layer. The results show that the grain size in the electrolytic coating observed by transmission electron microscopy is around 20 nm with an aspect ratio of 5:1

  • Laser surface modified ductile iron by pulsed Nd:YAG laser beam with two-dimensional array distribution
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Applied Surface Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0169-4332 .- 1873-5584. ; 245:1-4, s. 316-321
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel modification layer on the surface of pearlite-ferrite matrix ductile iron was fabricated under irradiation of Nd:YAG laser beam equipped with self-designed diffractive optical element (DOE) which produces a 5×5 two-dimensional array distribution at the focal plane. The microstructure of the layer along the surface and the direction of the layer depth had obvious gradient distribution, and therefore the two-dimensional microhardness map of the layer alternated higher hardness with lower hardness. The results showed that the novel modification layer is expected to have excellent combination of strength and toughness

  • Probabilistic analytical target cascading : A moment matching formulation for multilevel optimization under uncertainty
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of mechanical design (1990). - : ASME International. - 1050-0472 .- 1528-9001. ; 128:4, s. 991-1000
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Analytical target cascading (ATC) is a methodology for hierarchical multilevel system design optimization. In previous work, the deterministic ATC formulation was extended to account for random variables represented by expected values to be matched among subproblems and thus ensure design consistency. In this work, the probabilistic formulation is augmented to allow the introduction and matching of additional probabilistic characteristics. A particular probabilistic analytical target cascading (PATC) formulation is proposed that matches the first two moments of interrelated responses and linking variables. Several implementation issues are addressed, including representation of probabilistic design targets, matching responses and linking variables under uncertainty, and coordination strategies. Analytical and simulation-based optimal design examples are used to illustrate the new formulation. The accuracy of the proposed PATC formulation is demonstrated by comparing PATC results to those obtained using a probabilistic all-in-one formulation.
