  • The nucleotide sequence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome XV
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 387:6632, s. 98-102
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Chromosome XV was one of the last two chromosomes of Saccharomyces cerevisiae to be discovered(1). It is the third-largest yeast chromosome after chromosomes XII and IV, and is very similar in size to chromosome VII. It alone represents 9% of the yeast genome (8% if ribosomal DNA is included). When systematic sequencing of chromosome XV was started, 93 genes or markers were identified, and most of them were mapped(2). However, very little else was known about chromosome XV which, in contrast to shorter chromosomes, had not been the object of comprehensive genetic or molecular analysis. It was therefore decided to start sequencing chromosome XV only in the third phase of the European Yeast Genome Sequencing Programme, after experience was gained on chromosomes III, XI and II (refs 3-5). The sequence of chromosome XV has been determined from a set of partly overlapping cosmid clones derived from a unique yeast strain, and physically mapped at 3.3-kilobase resolution before sequencing. As well as numerous new open reading frames (ORFs) and genes encoding tRNA or small RNA molecules, the sequence of 1,091,283 base pairs confirms the high proportion of orphan genes and reveals a number of ancestral and successive duplications with other yeast chromosomes.

  • The state of the art in beyond 5G distributed massive multiple-input multiple-output communication system solutions
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Open Research Europe. - : F1000 Research Ltd. - 2732-5121. ; 2
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Beyond fifth generation (5G) communication systems aim towards data rates in the tera bits per second range, with improved and flexible coverage options, introducing many new technological challenges in the fields of network architecture, signal pro- cessing, and radio frequency front-ends. One option is to move towards cell-free, or distributed massive Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) network architectures and highly integrated front-end solutions. This paper presents an outlook on be- yond 5G distributed massive MIMO communication systems, the signal processing, characterisation and simulation challenges, and an overview of the state of the art in millimetre wave antennas and electronics.

  • A heteroepitaxially grown two-dimensional metal-organic framework and its derivative for the electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2050-7488 .- 2050-7496. ; 10:19, s. 10408-10416
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two-dimensional (2D) metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have become a hot topic recently due to their high surface area, larger number of exposed active sites, and improved conductivity. Combining different 2D MOFs could introduce new physical and chemical properties. Here, we have synthesized a heteroepitaxially grown 2D zeolitic imidazolate framework with a leaf-like morphology (ZIF-L). ZIF-L has a layer-by-layer dense structure, which possesses a high content of N and metal ions as active sites. ZIF-L-Co is heteroepitaxially grown on ZIF-L-Zn, while ZIF-L-Zn@ZIF-Co has been successfully prepared. After pyrolysis, the heteroepitaxially grown MOF derived ultra-small Co nanoparticle immobilized nitrogen doped carbon (NC) material (HM-Co@NC) exhibits superior oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity (Eonset = 0.998 V, E1/2 = 0.905 V) and better stability than Pt/C, achieving well-qualified assemblies for use in rechargeable Zn–air batteries.

  • A unified variational framework for the space discontinuous Galerkin method for elastic wave propagation in anisotropic and piecewise homogeneous media
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Computer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering. - : Elsevier. - 0045-7825 .- 1879-2138. ; 338, s. 299-332
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a unified multidimensional variational framework for the space discontinuous Galerkin method for elastic wave propagation in anisotropic and piecewise homogeneous media. Based on an elastic wave oriented formulation and using a tensorial formalism, the proposed framework allows a better understanding of the physical meaning of the terms involved in the discontinuous Galerkin method. The unified variational framework is written for first-order velocity-stress wave equations. An uncoupled upwind numerical flux and two coupled upwind numerical fluxes using respectively the Voigt and the Reuss averages of elastic moduli are defined. Two numerical fluxes that are exact solutions of the Riemann problem on physical interfaces are also developed and analyzed in the 1D case. The implemented solvers are then applied to different elastic media, especially to polycrystalline materials that present a particular case of piecewise homogeneous media. The use of the three upwind numerical fluxes, which only solve approximately the Riemann problem at element interfaces, is investigated.

  • Fast charging negative electrodes based on anatase titanium dioxide beads for highly stable Li-ion capacitors
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Materials Today Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 2468-6069. ; 16
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hybrid energy storage systems aim to achieve both high power and energy densities by combining supercapacitor-type and battery-type electrodes in tandem. The challenge is to find sustainable materials as fast charging negative electrodes, which are characterized by high capacity retention. In this study, mesoporous anatase beads are synthetized with tailored morphology to exploit fast surface redox reactions. The TiO2-based electrodes are properly paired with a commercial activated carbon cathode to form a Li-ion capacitor. The titania electrode exhibits high capacity and rate performance. The device shows extremely stable performance with an energy density of 27 mWh g-1 at a specific current of 2.5 A g−1 for 10,000 cycles. The remarkable stability is associated with a gradual shift of the potential during cycling as result of the formation of cubic LiTiO2 on the surface of the beads. This phenomenon renews the interest in using TiO2 as negative electrode for Li-ion capacitors.

  • Unearthing the ripple effects of power and resilience in large river deltas
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science and Policy. - : Elsevier. - 1462-9011 .- 1873-6416. ; 98:March 2018, s. 1-10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Historically, flood resilience in large river deltas has been strongly tied to institutional and infrastructural interventions to manage flood risk (such as building of embankments and drainage structures). However, the introduction of infrastructural works has inevitably brought unforeseen, major consequences, such as biodiversity and accelerated land subsidence, endangering the fertile characteristics that made them interesting places to live in in the first place. These ripple effects have sparked, a reconsideration of what deltas are, questioning the very separation and control between nature and culture, and how deltas are to be dealt with. These effects have further sparked changing modalities of power that tend to be overlooked by delta and resilience scholars alike. As a result, there is a real risk that future interventions to increase resilience, will in fact amplify unequal power relations in deltas as opposed to alleviating them. If the system as a whole has achieved some level of flood resilience (partly due to the flood defence mechanisms in place), does infrastructure have a differential effect on people's mobility under flood conditions? Are some groups experiencing less rather than more security, as water accumulates in some places but not others? This paper presents theoretical insights on the relationship between power and resilience in delta regions supported by two case studies, the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna delta in Bangladesh and the Mekong delta in Vietnam.

  • DNA sample cleanup using deterministic lateral displacement
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 20th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences, MicroTAS 2016. - 9780979806490 ; , s. 1527-1528
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Optical mapping relies on the preparation of fluorescent DNA. DNA must be imaged with good signal to noise and therefore the background of unwanted DNA fragments, fluorescent dyes and other reagents need to be removed. We use deterministic lateral displacement to separate 48.5 kbp DNA from < 10 kbp DNA. We also show the removal of 48.5 kbp DNA fragments from a background of fluorescent ATTO647N molecules and the recovery of >50 kbp molecules from a background of shorter digested fragments. In both cases improving signal to noise during imaging.
