  • Particle physics at the European Spallation Source
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physics reports. - : Elsevier. - 0370-1573 .- 1873-6270. ; 1023, s. 1-84
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Presently under construction in Lund, Sweden, the European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the world’s brightest neutron source. As such, it has the potential for a particle physics program with a unique reach and which is complementary to that available at other facilities. This paper describes proposed particle physics activities for the ESS. These encompass the exploitation of both the neutrons and neutrinos produced at the ESS for high precision (sensitivity) measurements (searches).

  • Spin Torque-Generated Magnetic Droplet Solitons
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Science. - : American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). - 0036-8075 .- 1095-9203. ; 339:6125, s. 1295-1298
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dissipative solitons have been reported in a wide range of nonlinear systems, but the observation of their magnetic analog has been experimentally challenging. Using spin transfer torque underneath a nanocontact on a magnetic thin film with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA), we have observed the generation of dissipative magnetic droplet solitons and report on their rich dynamical properties. Micromagnetic simulations identify a wide range of automodulation frequencies, including droplet oscillatory motion, droplet "spinning," and droplet "breather" states. The droplet can be controlled by using both current and magnetic fields and is expected to have applications in spintronics, magnonics, and PMA-based domain-wall devices.

  • HUGIN: a small satellite trying to be intelligent
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Proc. SPIE. ; 3728, s. 98-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Micro and nano-satellites are important tools to explore and test new ideas and various new devices for space missions without spending extreme amounts of money. The actual launch cost per kilogram payload on a micro or nano-satellite can be as high or even higher than ordinary satellites but the turn around time and quick responses are extremely important. The HUGIN project is a nano-satellite (less than 10 kg) explicitly designed to test magnetic coils and adaptive artificial neural network (ANN) algorithms for attitude control purposes. A small PC video camera is also included and if the control function is successful then also tests of adaptive image processing using other ANN and biologically inspired methods will be performed.

  • A reference architecture template for software-intensive embedded systems
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: ACM International Conference Proceeding Series. - New York, NY, USA : ACM. - 9781450315685 ; , s. 104-111
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper presents a document template for reference architectures for the domain of software-intensive embedded systems. The template addresses the somewhat conflicting needs when documenting a reference architecture of readability, overview, details, evolution and different background of the stakeholders. The first novel idea is the template prescribes two separate documents describing a reference architecture beside the product architecture documentation. The information in the two documents concern different stakeholders and evolve at different paces. The other novelty in describing reference architectures is to introduce a perspective of time, in the form of horizons, rather than focusing on a snapshot a release date. In addition, a case is presented giving an example of how a reference architecture was documented according to the template, how stakeholder needs were captured, and how the different types of information was identified or recovered from existing product architectures.

  • Stakeholder identification and quality attribute prioritization for a global Vehicle Control System
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Fourth European Conference on Software Architecture: Companion Volume. - 9781450301794 ; , s. 43-48
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An industrial case study in stakeholder identification and quality attribute prioritization for a Vehicle Control System (VCS) is presented. The system stakeholders were identified and a list of quality attributes was developed. A team of co-located Ford Motor Company engineering liaisons identified and interviewed stakeholders from their home organizations. The interview results were processed quantitatively and the top quality attributes were identified. Lessons learned from the process are included.

  • Magnetic droplet solitons in orthogonal nano-contact spin torque oscillators
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physica. B, Condensed matter. - : Elsevier BV. - 0921-4526 .- 1873-2135. ; 435, s. 84-87
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study microwave signal generation as a function of drive current and applied perpendicular magnetic field in nano-contact spin torque oscillators (NC-STOs) based on orthogonal (pseudo) spin valves where the Co fixed layer has strong easy-plane anisotropy, and the [Co/Ni] free layer has a strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy. The orthogonal NC-STOs exhibit a dramatic transition from the conventional ferromagnetic resonance-like spin wave mode to a magnetic droplet soliton mode. In particular, the field and current dependence of the droplet soliton near threshold are discussed. Near threshold the droplet soliton undergoes complex dynamics that include mode hopping, as evident in the experimental frequency domain and magnetoresistance response. © 2013 Elsevier B.V.

  • A novel XRF method to measure environmental release of copper and zinc from antifouling paints
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Environmental Pollution. - : Elsevier BV. - 0269-7491 .- 1873-6424. ; 225, s. 490-496
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The release of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) from vessels and leisure crafts coated with antifouling paints can pose a threat to water quality in semi-enclosed areas such as harbors and marinas as well as to coastal archipelagos. However, no reliable, practical and low-cost method exists to measure the direct release of metals from antifouling paints. Therefore, the paint industry and regulatory authorities are obliged to use release rate measurements derived from either mathematical models or from laboratory studies. To bridge this gap, we have developed a novel method using a handheld X-Ray Fluorescence spectrometer (XRF) to determine the cumulative release of Cu and Zn from antifouling paints. The results showed a strong linear relationship between XRF K-alpha net intensities and metal concentrations, as determined by ICP-MS. The release of Cu and Zn were determined for coated panels exposed in harbors located in the Baltic Sea and in Kattegat. The field study showed salinity to have a strong impact on the release of Cu, i.e. the release increased with salinity. Contrary, the effect of salinity on Zn was not as evident. As exemplified in this work, the XRF method also makes it possible to identify the governing parameters to the release of Cu and Zn, e.g. salinity and type of paint formulation. Thus, the XRF method can be used to measure environmentally relevant releases of metallic compounds to design more efficient and optimized antifouling coatings. (C) 2017 The Authors. • New analytical application for metal determination in antifouling paints
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Talanta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0039-9140 .- 1873-3573. ; 143, s. 121-126
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Despite the ban of applying TBT coatings on leisure boats in the late 80s, recent studies show an ongoing spread of TBT from leisure boats, particularly during hull cleaning events. Therefore, countries in EU have adopted expensive measures to clean this wash water. A more cost-efficient measure is to focus directly on the source, i.e. identify leisure boats with high concentrations of TBT and prescribe boat owners to remove the paint. We have developed a new antifouling paint application for a handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyzer to be used for identifying boats with high area concentrations (μg/cm2) of Sn (indication that the hull contains TBT paint residues). Copper and zinc are also included in the application since these metals are used in the vast majority of today's paints. A blind test with up to four layers of TBT-, copper- and zinc-based paints showed good correlation between XRF-measured area concentrations and chemically analyzed concentrations. Future usage of the applications involves identification of boat hulls in particular with high Sn concentrations and also with high Cu and Zn concentrations. This method has the potential to become a useful tool in regulatory management of existence and use of toxic elements on boat hulls.
