  • Data and methods in the environment-migration nexus : A scale perspective
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Die Erde. - 0013-9998. ; 147:2, s. 139-152
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The relationship between environment and migration has gained increased attention since the 1990s when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change projected climate change to become a major driver of human migration. Evaluations of this relationship include both quantitative and qualitative assessments. This review article introduces the concept of scale to environment-migration research as an important methodological issue for the reliability of conclusions drawn. The review of case studies shows that scale issues are highly present in environment-migration research but rarely discussed. Several case studies base their results on data at very coarse resolutions that have undergone strong modifications and generalizations. We argue that scale-related shortcomings must be considered in all stages of environment-migration research.

  • An integrative review of the literature on how eating disorders among adolescents affect the family as a system – complex structures and relational processes
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Mental Health Review Journal. - 1361-9322 .- 2042-8758. ; 21:3, s. 213-230
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • PurposeThe purpose of this literature review is to describe how eating disorders among adolescents affect family relationships and the family’s daily living conditions and to describe the family’s experienced need for professional support.Design/methodology/approachAn integrative literature review based on the method of Whittemore and Knafl. In all, 15 articles with both qualitative and quantitative approaches were reviewed.FindingsThe results are presented in two main themes: a disharmonic family and the need for input from healthcare professionals. The results are discussed using Callista Roy’s adaptation model and the adaptive modes: group identity mode, role function and interdependence.Originality/valueThis review paper will be of interest to clinical nurses and other professionals who encounter families to clarify how the relationships and roles change within the family. To the authors knowledge, no integrative review has paid attention to how the relational aspects of the family members, their social roles and role constructions within the family affect daily living.

  • Artificial Intelligence for Diagnosis and Gleason Grading of Prostate Cancer in Biopsies-Current Status and Next Steps
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: European Urology Focus. - : Elsevier. - 2405-4569. ; 7:4, s. 687-691
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Diagnosis and Gleason grading of prostate cancer in biopsies are critical for the clinical management of men with prostate cancer. Despite this, the high grading variability among pathologists leads to the potential for under-and overtreatment. Artificial intelligence (AI) systems have shown promise in assisting pathologists to perform Gleason grading, which could help address this problem. In this mini-review, we highlight studies reporting on the development of AI systems for cancer detection and Gleason grading, and discuss the progress needed for widespread clinical implementation, as well as anticipated future developments. Patient summary: This mini-review summarizes the evidence relating to the validation of artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted cancer detection and Gleason grading of prostate cancer in biopsies, and highlights the remaining steps required prior to its widespread clinical implementation. We found that, although there is strong evidence to show that AI is able to perform Gleason grading on par with experienced uropathologists, more work is needed to ensure the accuracy of results from AI systems in diverse settings across different patient populations, digitization platforms, and pathology laboratories.

  • Open source drug discovery with Bioclipse
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry. - : Bentham Science Publishers Ltd.. - 1568-0266 .- 1873-4294. ; 12:18, s. 1980-1986
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the open source components for drug discovery that has been developed and integrated into the graphical workbench Bioclipse. Building on a solid open source cheminformatics core, Bioclipse has advanced functionality for managing and visualizing chemical structures and related information. The features presented here include QSAR/QSPR modeling, various predictive solutions such as decision support for chemical liability assessment, site-of-metabolism prediction, virtual screening, and knowledge discovery and integration. We demonstrate the utility of the described tools with examples from computational pharmacology, toxicology, and ADME. Bioclipse is used in both academia and industry, and is a good example of open source leading to new solutions for drug discovery.
