  • The bright extragalactic ALMA redshift survey (BEARS) – II. Millimetre photometry of gravitational lens candidates
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. - 0035-8711 .- 1365-2966. ; 522:2, s. 2995-3017
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present 101- and 151-GHz ALMA continuum images for 85 fields selected from Herschel observations that have 500-μm flux densities >80 mJy and 250–500-μm colours consistent with z > 2, most of which are expected to be gravitationally lensed or hyperluminous infrared galaxies. Approximately half of the Herschel 500-μm sources were resolved into multiple ALMA sources, but 11 of the 15 brightest 500-μm Herschel sources correspond to individual ALMA sources. For the 37 fields containing either a single source with a spectroscopic redshift or two sources with the same spectroscopic redshift, we examined the colour temperatures and dust emissivity indices. The colour temperatures only vary weakly with redshift and are statistically consistent with no redshift-dependent temperature variations, which generally corresponds to results from other samples selected in far-infrared, submillimetre, or millimetre bands but not to results from samples selected in optical or near-infrared bands. The dust emissivity indices, with very few exceptions, are largely consistent with a value of 2. We also compared spectroscopic redshifts to photometric redshifts based on spectral energy distribution templates designed for infrared-bright high-redshift galaxies. While the templates systematically underestimate the redshifts by ∼15 per cent, the inclusion of ALMA data decreases the scatter in the predicted redshifts by a factor of ∼2, illustrating the potential usefulness of these millimetre data for estimating photometric redshifts.

  • Biomimetic Photonic Multiform Composite for High-Performance Radiative Cooling
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Advanced Optical Materials. - : Wiley. - 2162-7568 .- 2195-1071. ; 9:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nanostructures on bodies of biological inhabitants in severe environments can exhibit excellent thermoregulation, which provide inspirations for artificial radiative cooling materials. However, achieving both large-scale manufacturing and flexible form-compatibility to various applications needs remains as a formidable challenge. Here a biomimetic strategy is adopted to design a thermal photonic composite inspired by the previously unexplored golden cicada's evolutionarily optimized thermoregulatory ability. A microimprint combined with phase separation method is developed for fabricating a biomimetic photonic material made of porous polymer–ceramic composite profiled in microhumps. The composite demonstrates high solar reflectance (97.6%) and infrared emissivity (95.5%) in atmospheric window, which results in a cooling power of 78 W m−2 and a maximum subambient temperature drop of 6.6 °C at noon. Moreover, the technique facilitates multiform manufacturing of the composites beyond films, as demonstrated by additive printing into general 3D structures. This work offers biomimetic approach for developing high-performance thermal regulation materials and devices.

  • Roadmap on energy harvesting materials
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 2515-7639. ; 6:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ambient energy harvesting has great potential to contribute to sustainable development and address growing environmental challenges. Converting waste energy from energy-intensive processes and systems (e.g. combustion engines and furnaces) is crucial to reducing their environmental impact and achieving net-zero emissions. Compact energy harvesters will also be key to powering the exponentially growing smart devices ecosystem that is part of the Internet of Things, thus enabling futuristic applications that can improve our quality of life (e.g. smart homes, smart cities, smart manufacturing, and smart healthcare). To achieve these goals, innovative materials are needed to efficiently convert ambient energy into electricity through various physical mechanisms, such as the photovoltaic effect, thermoelectricity, piezoelectricity, triboelectricity, and radiofrequency wireless power transfer. By bringing together the perspectives of experts in various types of energy harvesting materials, this Roadmap provides extensive insights into recent advances and present challenges in the field. Additionally, the Roadmap analyses the key performance metrics of these technologies in relation to their ultimate energy conversion limits. Building on these insights, the Roadmap outlines promising directions for future research to fully harness the potential of energy harvesting materials for green energy anytime, anywhere.

  • Transfer Learning-enabled Action Recognition for Human-robot Collaborative Assembly
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Procedia CIRP. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 2212-8271. ; , s. 1795-1800
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Human-robot collaboration (HRC) is critical to today's tendency towards high-flexible assembly in manufacturing. Human action recognition, as one of the core prerequisites for HRC, enables industrial robots to understand human intentions and to execute planning adaptively. However, existing deep learning-based action recognition methods rely heavily on a huge amount of annotation data, which may not be effective or realistic in practice. Therefore, a transfer learning-enabled action recognition approach is proposed in this research to facilitate robot reactive control in HRC assembly. Meanwhile, a decision-making mechanism for robotic planning is introduced as well. Lastly, the proposed approach is evaluated in an aircraft bracket assembly scenario to reveal its significance.

  • Tests of material properties in mixed mode I and II
  • 1987
  • Ingår i: Fracture of Concrete and Rock: SEM-RILEM International Conference.; Houston, TX, USA. - 0912053135 ; , s. 353-358
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Fracture in plain concrete starts normally as tensile fracture, whereby a damage zone forms perpendicular to the principal tensile stress direction. If this stress direction is maintained when the deformation within the damage zone increases, the material behaviour in the damage zone can be described by a simple stress-deformation curve. The design of a test equipment for the measurement of the material properties within a damage zone with combined tension and shear deformations is described. The design of the equipment is based on a theoretical analysis, which shows the importance of a sufficient stiffness in order to prevent rotations caused by instability. In order to fulfill the requirements on stiffness, a certain rotation in the damage zone has been accepted in the design.

  • He-vacancy interaction and multiple He trapping in small void of silicon carbide
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nuclear Materials. - : Elsevier BV. - 0022-3115 .- 1873-4820. ; 457, s. 36-41
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In fusion environment, large amounts of helium (He) atoms are produced by transmutation along with structural damage in the structural materials, causing material swelling and degrading of physical properties. To understand the microscopic mechanism of He trapping in vacancies and voids, we explored He-vacancy interactions in HenVam (Va for vacancy) clusters (n, m = 1-4) and multiple He trapping in a 7-atom void of silicon carbide (SiC) by first-principles calculations. The binding energy between He and the HenVam clusters increases with the number of vacancies, while the vacancy binding energy gradually increases with the number of He atoms. Furthermore, a small cavity of about 0.55 nm in diameter can accommodate up to 14 He atoms energetically and the corresponding internal pressure is estimated to be 2.5 GPa. The tendency of He trapping in small voids provides an explanation for the experimentally observed He bubble formation at vacancy defects in SiC materials.

  • Full-Duplex and C-RAN Based Multi-Cell Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access over 5G Wireless Networks
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: ICC 2019 - 2019 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC). - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 9781538680889
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we propose the full-duplex and cloud radio access network (C-RAN) based multi-cell non-orthogonal multiple access schemes over 5G mobile wireless networks. To cope with the severe intra-cell and inter-cell interferences as well as perform the centralized optimization, we adopt the C-RAN architecture, where the baseband processing and resource management are conducted at a central unit (CU). With the goal of maximizing the weighted sum achievable rate, we formulate the sum rate maximization power allocation problem as a non-convex problem. Thanks to the hidden monotonicity structure of the considered problem, the optimal power allocation algorithm is developed by the monotonic optimization method. Besides, we propose another suboptimal algorithm by employing successive convex approximation method to obtain the close-to-optimal solution with a significantly reduced computational complexity. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of our proposed power allocation schemes, and confirm the superiority of our proposed C-RAN architecture.
