  • Cardiac LGE MRI Segmentation with Cross-Modality Image Augmentation and Improved U-Net
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IEEE journal of biomedical and health informatics. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2168-2194 .- 2168-2208. ; 27:2, s. 588-597
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Image segmentation is a challenging problem in imaging informatics, which stems from the intersection of imaging techniques, computer science and biomedicine. In particular, accurate segmentation of cardiac structures in late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is of great clinical importance for cardiac function assessment and myocardial disease diagnosis. However, it is a well-known challenge due to its special imaging modality and the lack of labeled LGE samples. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised ventricular segmentation algorithm that can perform biventricular segmentation of LGE images in the absence of labeled LGE data. There are two primary modules, the data augmentation procedure and the segmentation network. The easily available annotated balanced-Steady State Free Precession (bSSFP) images are employed for cross-modal data augmentation by image translation, where a single bSSFP image is converted into multiple synthetic LGE images while preserving the original morphological structure. Then, the proposed segmentation network is trained with the synthetic LGE images and used for segmenting real LGE images. Validation experiments demonstrated the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed algorithm.

  • Device and Integration Technology for Silicon Photonic Transmitters
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics. - 1077-260X .- 1558-4542. ; 17:3, s. 671-688
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The device and integration technology for silicon photonic transmitters are reviewed in this paper. The hybrid silicon platform enables on-chip lasers to be fabricated with silicon photonic circuits and can be integrated in the CMOS back-end flow. Laser arrays from multiple die bonding and quantum well intermixing techniques are demonstrated to extend the spectral bandwidth from the laser array of the transmitter. Two modulator technologies, silicon modulators and hybrid silicon modulators, are also described.

  • Local surface plasmon resonance of single silver nanorice particles in the near-infrared
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Mikrochimica Acta. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1436-5073 .- 0026-3672. ; 181:7-8, s. 791-795
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the synthesis and optical spectra of silver nanorice particles. Two strong absorption bands are resolved in the near UV and near-IR region, and the dark field scattering spectra are consistent with the absorption spectra. Finite-difference time-domain simulations reveal that the peak in the IR region can be attributed to the E field that is parallel to the long axis, while the peak in the UV can be attributed to the E field perpendicular to the short axis of the silver nanorice particles.

  • The Effects of the Addition of Polyurethane–MgO Nanohybrids on the Mechanical Properties of Ordinary Portland Cement Paste
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Nanomaterials. - : MDPI AG. - 2079-4991. ; 12:22
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • One of the most important methods of controlling the properties of concrete and cement-based materials is to control the rate and kinetics of cement hydration. In the present study, novel flexible polyurethane-decorated MgO nanohybrids were synthesized using a simple chemical method, added to cement paste in different amounts, and utilized as an effective mechanical performance-enhancing factor for cement paste. It was observed that by adding 3 wt% synthesized PU-MgO nanohybrids to cement paste, its mechanical properties were improved and its compressive strength and flexural strength were increased by up to 13% and 15%, respectively, compared to the plain cement, after 45 days. The effect mechanism of adding PU–MgO nanoparticles on the properties of the cement paste was investigated. The addition of PU–MgO nanohybrids increased the pozzolanic reactions and formed more C-S-H phases.

  • A self-powered flexible piezoelectric sensor patch for deep learning-assisted motion identification and rehabilitation training system
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nano Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-2855 .- 2211-3282. ; 123
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence-assisted wearable devices have attracted great interest in medical treatment and healthcare. However, wearable electronic devices are expensive to manufacture and usually depend on external power supply. Herein, a flexible self-powered piezoelectric sensor patch (SPP) using Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) fibrous film as the functional layer is demonstrated for the assessment and motion identification of wrist joint rehabilitation training. PVDF fibrous film is prepared by a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)-driven near-field electrospinning system with a special designed synchronous mechanical switch. The results show that this flexible SPP has a high sensitivity of 0.2768 V KPa−1 at pressures from 1 to 75 kPa. Such excellent flexibility allows us to attach the SPP to the finger as a tactile sensor for rehabilitation assessment of wrist joint flexibility. In addition, long short-term memory network model is used to process the collected data from the SPP for motion identification. The test accuracy of the SPP wrist motion identification reaches 92.6%, which afford a potential way to understand the progress of the rehabilitation training of patients' wrists. Generally, this flexible SPP shows great promise for applications in the fields of motion monitoring, medical diagnosis and rehabilitation training based on artificial intelligence.

  • Temperature-dependent interlayer coupling in Ni/Co perpendicular pseudo-spin-valve structures
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. Condensed Matter and Materials Physics. - 1098-0121 .- 1550-235X. ; 84:17, s. 174432-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The temperature-dependent coupling mechanisms in perpendicular pseudo-spin valves based on the following structure, [Ni/Co](5)/Cu(t(Cu))/[Ni/Co](2), are investigated. Despite a thick (t(Cu) >= 3 nm) Cu spacer, room-temperature measurements reveal complete coupling of the [Ni/Co](5) and [Ni/Co](2) multilayers. This coupling can be attributed to strong long range magnetostatic stray fields that penetrate the spacer layer. This results in magnetic domain imprinting and vertically correlated domains throughout the reversal process. Surprisingly, when the temperature is reduced, a complete decoupling is observed. This somewhat counterintuitive result can be explained by a large difference in the [Ni/Co](5) and [Ni/Co](2) multilayer coercivities at reduced temperatures, which then impedes domain imprinting and promotes decoupling. Finally, the decoupling temperature is found to increase with spacer thickness.

  • Plasmon-driven dimerization via S-S chemical bond in an aqueous environment
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322 .- 2045-2322. ; 4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of thioanisole are experimentally investigated in an electrochemical environment in this study. Two Raman peaks, which depend strongly not only on electric potential but also on the local surface plasmon resonances (LSPR), have been observed. Theoretical calculations reveal that thioanisole is first dissociated from thiophenol via the S-CH3 bond; plasmons then drive the dimerisation of thiophenol via the S-S bond, which is strongly potential dependent. One Raman peak corresponds to the S-S vibrational mode of the thiophenol dimer, and the other corresponds to the asymmetric C-C stretching modes of the benzenyl of the thiophenol dimer. The potential-dependent two Raman modes is the potential-dependent dimerisation dynamics of thiophenol via the S-S bond. Our experimental findings provide insight into the structural elucidation of adsorbed molecules and molecular surface reaction dynamics.

  • Tuning drug release from polyoxazoline-drug conjugates
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: European Polymer Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 0014-3057. ; 120
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Poly(2-oxazoline)-drug conjugates with drugs attached via releasable linkages are being developed for drug delivery. Such conjugates with pendent ester linkages that covalently bind drugs to the polymer backbone exhibit significantly slower hydrolytic release rates in plasma than the corresponding PEG- and dextran-drug conjugates. The slow drug release rates in-vitro of these POZ-drug conjugates contribute to extended in-vivo pharmacokinetic profiles. In some instances, the release kinetics may be relatively sustained and ideal for once-a-week subcutaneous injection, whereas the native drug by itself may only have an in-vivo half-life of a few hours. The origin of this unusual kinetic and pharmacokinetic behavior is proposed here to involve folding of the POZ conjugate such that the relatively hydrophobic drug forms a central core, and the relatively hydrophilic polymer wraps around the core and slows enzymatic attack on the drug-polymer chemical linkage. Here we present evidence supporting this hypothesis and demonstrate how the hypothesis can be used to tune hydrolytic release rates and pharmacokinetics. Evidence for the folding hypothesis is taken from hydrolysis kinetics of a range of drugs in plasma, pharmacokinetics of a range of drugs following subcutaneous injection in laboratory animals, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) studies showing folding of the POZ-rotigotine molecule. The drugs included in this study to test the hypothesis are: rotigotine, buprenorphine, dexanabinol, cannabidiol (CBD), Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabigerol (CBG).

  • Distributed filtering for uncertain systems under switching sensor networks and quantized communications
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Automatica. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0005-1098 .- 1873-2836. ; 114
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper considers the distributed filtering problem for a class of stochastic uncertain systems under quantized data flowing over switching sensor networks. Employing the biased noisy observations of the local sensor and interval-quantized messages from neighboring sensors successively, an extended state based distributed Kalman filter (DKF) is proposed for simultaneously estimating both system state and uncertain dynamics. To alleviate the effect of observation biases, an event-triggered update based DKF is presented with a tighter mean square error (MSE) bound than that of the time-driven one by designing a proper threshold. Both the two DKFs are shown to provide the upper bounds of MSE online for each sensor. Under mild conditions on systems and networks, the MSE boundedness and asymptotic unbiasedness for the proposed two DKFs are proved. Finally, numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the developed filters.
