  • The European Hematology Association Roadmap for European Hematology Research : a consensus document
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Haematologica. - Pavia, Italy : Ferrata Storti Foundation (Haematologica). - 0390-6078 .- 1592-8721. ; 101:2, s. 115-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The European Hematology Association (EHA) Roadmap for European Hematology Research highlights major achievements in diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and identifies the greatest unmet clinical and scientific needs in those areas to enable better funded, more focused European hematology research. Initiated by the EHA, around 300 experts contributed to the consensus document, which will help European policy makers, research funders, research organizations, researchers, and patient groups make better informed decisions on hematology research. It also aims to raise public awareness of the burden of blood disorders on European society, which purely in economic terms is estimated at (sic)23 billion per year, a level of cost that is not matched in current European hematology research funding. In recent decades, hematology research has improved our fundamental understanding of the biology of blood disorders, and has improved diagnostics and treatments, sometimes in revolutionary ways. This progress highlights the potential of focused basic research programs such as this EHA Roadmap. The EHA Roadmap identifies nine 'sections' in hematology: normal hematopoiesis, malignant lymphoid and myeloid diseases, anemias and related diseases, platelet disorders, blood coagulation and hemostatic disorders, transfusion medicine, infections in hematology, and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. These sections span 60 smaller groups of diseases or disorders. The EHA Roadmap identifies priorities and needs across the field of hematology, including those to develop targeted therapies based on genomic profiling and chemical biology, to eradicate minimal residual malignant disease, and to develop cellular immunotherapies, combination treatments, gene therapies, hematopoietic stem cell treatments, and treatments that are better tolerated by elderly patients.

  • Ultrasound measurements of subcutaneous adipose tissue in infants are reproducible
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition - Jpgn. - 1536-4801. ; 28:5, s. 492-494
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ultrasound technique for measuring subcutaneous adipose tissue in infants. METHODS: Twenty infants were investigated at 3, 6, and 12 months of age. All measurements were made by the same investigator in triplicate on the left side of the body at the triceps and subscapular anatomic landmarks and at the abdomen and thigh. An ultrasound system equipped with a linear 7.0-MHz transducer was used. RESULTS: The intraclass correlation coefficients were 0.88 to 0.99. Random errors ranged from 0.01 to 0.19 mm. For log-transformed values, the random error ranged from 2.4% to 5.7%. CONCLUSIONS: Measurements of subcutaneous fat in infants using ultrasound are reproducible when performed by the same observer.

  • De glömda verkstäderna : En studie av två familjeföretag på den uppländska landsbygden ca 1930 - 2000
  • 2008
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The thesis studies two small family businesses situated in the rural area of Uppsala County. Both were active during the twentieth century (1933 and henceforth and 1936 – 1976 respectively) and had the agriculture surroundings and bigger industries as their principal customers. Workshops of this kind have existed in a great number. Despite this they are hardly mentioned in scholarly literature concerning the Swedish twentieth-century industrial development. This has concentrated mainly on large industries; the time period has also been characterized as “the highly industrialized epoch” with large-scale production and rationalization as its distinctive features. The overall purpose of the thesis is therefore to analyse and highlight the function of these workshops. Four related questions are in focus, each one discussed in a particular section: the production process; the relation workshop – family; the relation workshop – surroundings (i.e. customers and employees); the motives of the owners. The close connection with family members as well as with customers and employees are shown in various ways. It is also maintained that profits were not the prime mover of the owners. The thesis is based on interviews combined with a number of other sources. Among the latter are photographs and artefacts. By following a context gathering method, it is possible to use the most important product from each workshop as a guiding principle through their activities. Another important analytic method used is the analysis of how different work tasks in the family related to each other and to the workshop.
