  • Few electron double quantum dots in InAs/InP nanowire heterostructures
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6992 .- 1530-6984. ; 7:2, s. 243-246
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on fabrication of double quantum dots in catalytically grown InAs/InP nanowire heterostructures. In the few-electron regime, starting with both dots empty, our low-temperature transport measurements reveal a clear shell structure for sequential charging of the larger of the two dots with up to 12 electrons. The resonant current through the double dot is found to depend on the orbital coupling between states of different radial symmetry. The charging energies are well described by a capacitance model if next-neighbor capacitances are taken into account.

  • Tunable effective g factor in InAs nanowire quantum dots
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B (Condensed Matter and Materials Physics). - 1098-0121. ; 72:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report tunneling spectroscopy measurements of the Zeeman spin splitting in InAs few-electron quantum dots. The dots are formed between two InP barriers in InAs nanowires with a wurtzite crystal structure grown using chemical beam epitaxy. The values of the electron g factors of the first few electrons entering the dot are found to strongly depend on dot size. They range from close to the InAs bulk value in large dots vertical bar g(*)vertical bar=13 down to vertical bar g(*)vertical bar=2.3 for the smallest dots.

  • Effects of pH, salt and time on ligand binding properties of overexpressed melanocortin 4 receptor.
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods. - : Elsevier BV. - 0165-022X. ; 58:3, s. 195-205
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The G-protein coupled melanocortin 4 receptor (MC4r) plays an important role in the energy metabolism. We overexpressed the MC4r in CHO cells and performed characterisation studies on the cell membranes to determine functional stability and ligand binding properties of the receptor. The affinity for the ligands [Nle4, Image-Phe7]-αMSH and MTII was lost below pH 6 but could be restored by returning to physiological pH. Increasing NaCl concentration up to 1 M had little influence on the binding of either ligand. At neutral pH, physiological salt concentration and 4 °C the ligand affinity of the receptor was stable for up to 6 days. These findings will facilitate design of purification methods for the receptor.

  • Pupils' use of school outdoor play settings across seasons and its relation to sun exposure and physical activity
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Photodermatology Photoimmunology & Photomedicine. - : Wiley. - 0905-4383 .- 1600-0781. ; 36:5, s. 365-372
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Long outdoor stay may cause hazardous exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) from the sun even at high latitudes as in Sweden (Spring to Autumn). On the other hand, long outdoor stay is a strong predictor of primary school children ' s free mobility involving moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). UV-protective outdoor environments enable long outdoor stay. We investigated the concurrent impact of different school outdoor play settings upon pupils ' sun exposure and levels of physical activity across different ages, genders, and seasons. Method During 1 week each in September, March, and May, UVR exposure and MVPA were measured in pupils aged 7-11 years. Erythemally effective UVR exposure was measured by polysulphone film dosimeters and MVPA by accelerometers. Schoolyard play was recorded on maps, and used areas defined as four play settings (fixed play equipment, paved surfaces, sport fields, and green settings), categorized by season and gender. Results During the academic year, sport fields yielded the highest UVR exposures and generated most time in MVPA. In March, time outdoors and minutes in MVPA dropped and UVR exposures were suberythemal at all play settings. In May, green settings and fixed play equipment close to greenery promoted MVPA and protected from solar overexposure during long outdoor stays. Conclusion More outdoor activities in early spring are recommended. In May, greenery attractive for play could protect against overexposure to UVR and stimulate both girls and boys to vigorous play.

  • Electrical properties of self-assembled branched InAs nanowire junctions
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Nano Letters. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 1530-6992 .- 1530-6984. ; 8:4, s. 1100-1104
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate electrical properties of self-assembled branched InAs nanowires. The branched nanowires are catalytically grown using chemical beam epitaxy, and three-terminal nanoelectronic devices are fabricated from the branched nanowires using electron-beam lithography. We demonstrate that, in difference from conventional macroscopic junctions, the fabricated self-assembled nanowire junction devices exhibit tunable nonlinear electrical characteristics and a signature of ballistic electron transport. As an example of applications, we demonstrate that the self-assembled three-terminal nanowire junctions can be used to implement the functions of frequency mixing, multiplication, and phase-difference detection of input electrical signals at room temperature. Our results suggest a wide range of potential applications of branched semiconductor nanostructures in nanoelectronics.

  • Detection of charge states in nanowire quantum dots using a quantum point contact
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Applied Physics Letters. - : AIP Publishing. - 0003-6951 .- 1077-3118. ; 90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The authors demonstrate operation of a charge readout scheme for quantum dots in a semiconductor nanowire using a quantum point contact defined in a GaAs/AlGaAs two-dimensional electron gas beneath the nanowire. The quantum dots were fabricated by epitaxial growth of InP barriers along a n-type InAs nanowire. Applying negative voltages to two split-gate electrodes aligned to the nanowire induces a quantum point contact in the two-dimensional electron gas such that charging of quantum dots in the nanowire modulates the quantum point contact transmission, thus resulting in the desired detector response.
