  • Alignment of the ALICE Inner Tracking System with cosmic-ray tracks
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Instrumentation. - 1748-0221. ; 5
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) experiment devoted to investigating the strongly interacting matter created in nucleus-nucleus collisions at the LHC energies. The ALICE ITS, Inner Tracking System, consists of six cylindrical layers of silicon detectors with three different technologies; in the outward direction: two layers of pixel detectors, two layers each of drift, and strip detectors. The number of parameters to be determined in the spatial alignment of the 2198 sensor modules of the ITS is about 13,000. The target alignment precision is well below 10 mu m in some cases (pixels). The sources of alignment information include survey measurements, and the reconstructed tracks from cosmic rays and from proton-proton collisions. The main track-based alignment method uses the Millepede global approach. An iterative local method was developed and used as well. We present the results obtained for the ITS alignment using about 10(5) charged tracks from cosmic rays that have been collected during summer 2008, with the ALICE solenoidal magnet switched off.

  • IceCube search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2023). - : Sissa Medialab Srl.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  GRB 221009A is the brightest Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) ever observed. The observed extremelyhigh flux of high and very-high-energy photons provide a unique opportunity to probe the predictedneutrino counterpart to the electromagnetic emission. We have used a variety of methods to searchfor neutrinos in coincidence with the GRB over several time windows during the precursor, promptand afterglow phases of the GRB. MeV scale neutrinos are studied using photo-multiplier ratescalers which are normally used to search for galactic core-collapse supernovae neutrinos. GeVneutrinos are searched starting with DeepCore triggers. These events don’t have directionallocalization, but instead can indicate an excess in the rate of events. 10 GeV - 1 TeV and >TeVneutrinos are searched using traditional neutrino point source methods which take into accountthe direction and time of events with DeepCore and the entire IceCube detector respectively. The>TeV results include both a fast-response analysis conducted by IceCube in real-time with timewindows of T0 − 1 to T0 + 2 hours and T0 ± 1 day around the time of GRB 221009A, as well asan offline analysis with 3 new time windows up to a time window of T0 − 1 to T0 + 14 days, thelongest time period we consider. The combination of observations by IceCube covers 9 ordersof magnitude in neutrino energy, from MeV to PeV, placing upper limits across the range forpredicted neutrino emission.

  • An assembly and execution shell for multiagent systems
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 38th Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences : 3 - 6 January 2005, Big Island, Hawaii, [Hilton Waikoloa] ; abstracts and CD-ROM of full papers. - Los Alamitos, Calif : IEEE Computer Society Press. - 0769522688 ; , s. 72-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents a novel approach to design and develop an assembly and execution shell for multiagent applications based on the concept of a mission. A mission is a live evolving object that contains data, current variables, goals and evolution history of the mission itself. By maintaining the states and data inside the mission, it is possible to suspend the multiagent system's mission execution temporarily and resume when permitted. Our design allows run-time and dynamic agent generation depending on the complexity of the mission itself. We discuss the design and internal structure of the mission, the strategy and efficiency of the system in executing the tasks in the mission, and present our prototype system called eHermes.

  • Run-time mission evolution in mobile multiagent systems
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings / IEEE/WIC/ACM International Conference on Intelligent Agent Technology, 2004, IAT 2004 : Sept. 20 - 24, 2004, [Beijing, China]. - Los Alamitos, Calif : IEEE Computer Society Press. - 0769521010 ; , s. 79-85
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present our approach to developing a multiagent system based on the proposed complex concept of the mission. The mission is a high-level abstraction that combines the overall goal of a system, the means, and the process of achieving that goal, from which agents can be automatically generated. We propose a mechanism to generate agents on-demand and at run-time rather than at the design stage. Functionalities are given to the agents at run-time also. Programmatically, a mission is a live object where it maintains not only the various revisions of the plan but also the state and data for each revision. By doing so, our system is able to suspend and resume the mission. Furthermore, we envisage that the mission execution history is useful for the planner so that it can learn from it and hence produce a better plan in the future. We discuss the concept of the mission object, our programmatic model as well as our prototype system, which we call eHermes.

  • The FERRUM Project: New f-value Data for Fe II and Astrophysical Applications
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0281-1847 .- 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; T100, s. 71-80
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the FERRUM Project, an international collaboration aiming at a production and evaluation of oscillator strengths (transition probabilities) of selected spectral lines of singly ionized iron group elements, that are of astrophysical relevance. The results obtained include measurements and calculations of permitted and forbidden lines of Fe II. The data have been applied to both emission and absorption lines in astrophysical spectra. We make comparisons between experimental, theoretical and astrophysical f-values. We give a general review of the various measurements, and discuss the UV8 multiplet of Fe II around 1610 Šin detail.

  • From Product Development to Production : On the Complexity of Geographical and Organizational Dispersion
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the R&D Management Conference, Lake Windermere, Cumbria, UK.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Earlier research has addressed various aspects of the interrelationships between Product development and Production. However few articles explain what the concept consist of. Those that do explain the concept are conceptually driven and not based on empirical studies. This is why this paper has addressed the often neglected issue of what the Product Development-Production (PD-P) interface really consist of. The logic in our reasoning is that before sound improvements can be suggested for the PD-P interface there is a need to understand what it is. Better insights into which the generic components of the PD-P interface are may support the integration between the two departments and hence increase efficiency in the industrial innovation processes in terms of shortened lead-times, lower costs, etc. The empirical data in this paper originates from case studies carried out at three Swedish manufacturing companies. The data was collected via semi-structured interviews with key actors involved in the three product development projects. The empirical findings are merged with theory into a tentative model that describes four generic components of the PD-P interface. The Technology component consists of the fit of product technology and production process technology. The Organization component involves the meeting between the production development and production organizations. The Tasks carried out during product development must also be aligned appropriately with the production tasks. The Scope component is what is being transferred between product development and production by various information tools and carriers, such as prototypes, blueprints, emails etc The identification of these components provides a basis for further studies and analysis of the PD-P interface. As the model is tentative, future studies should also test the validity of the model as well as search for appropriate management approaches. Different problems should be addressed from a holistic view of the PD-P interface including aggravating circumstances such as geographic distance between the departments, complex products or new production systems. In-depth studies of the individual components as well as connections between them would also generate more insight to the PD-P interface.
