  • Turbulence structure on the surface of high speed liquid jet
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: ASME/JSME/KSME 2015 Joint Fluids Engineering Conference, AJKFluids 2015. - : American Society of Mechanical Engineers. - 9780791857229
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The structures on the surface of high-speed capillary liquid jet were captured with the help of high-speed camera and microscope. Apower spectral density method is used to deal with the jet images. Based on captured jet image, the variation of surface structures near the exit of the nozzle is divided into three sections: laminar section, instability section and turbulence section. There is no clearly surface structures in the laminar section. The wave-like structures come out in the instability section with a sudden and are regularly increase with a small slope along the streamwise. The degree of order is rather weak in the turbulence section. The increase of the Reynolds numbers which based on the momentum thickness at the exit of the nozzle will accelerates the jet surface transition from the laminar section to turbulence section.

  • Stochastic Backpropagation for Coherent Optical Communications
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: European Conference and Exposition on Optical Communications, ECOC. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 2162-2701. - 9781557529312 - 9781557529312
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present stochastic backpropagation, a novel maximum a posteriori detection method for coherent optical communication. The proposed detector is shown to outperform conventional backpropagation in a scenario where nonlinear phase noise is the dominant impairment.

  • Plasmonic enhanced photothermal effects and its applications
  • 2014
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We review here our recent studies on plasmonic enhanced photothermal effects in metallic nanostructure, and the applications of such effects. When light is shined on a prefect metamaterial absorber patterned with e-beam lithography, the gold nanoparticles (NPs) forming the absorber can be either transformed to nano-spherical-domes, or to truncated-octahedral shaped or multi-twined nanocrystals with large crystal grain sizes and flat boundary facets. The evolution of morphology and crystallinity of the gold NPs can be also observed. Evidences clearly show that the surface melting and the coalescence mechanism play a key role on nanocrystals formation. These melted gold nanospheres can even be transferred to another substrate, on which the transferred NPs exhibit excellent size uniformity. The strong photothermal effects can also be utilized to tune silicon photonics waveguides and resonators. It is shown that all-optical photothermal switching of Mach-Zehnder interferometers (MZI), silicon disk resonators, and silicon ring resonators is possible with the help of plasmonic nanoheaters. The switching response time and power consumption are all at reasonably low level.

  • Robotic wheeled vehicle ripple tentacles motion planning method
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Intelligent Vehicles Symposium (IV), 2012 IEEE. - Piscataway, N.J. : IEEE Press. - 9781467321198 ; , s. 1156-1161
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes a nonholonomic robotic wheeled vehicle ripple tentacle motion planning method, aiming to improve the vehicle's trajectory smoothness and avoid frequent weight parameters adjustment in different environments. In the regular tentacle motion planning algorithm, the planning result is selected among the drivable tentacles using a weighted sum cost function. Though the method is simple and easy to understand, it is difficult to adjust the weighted coefficients in different environments. To solve this problem, a geometrical ripple tentacles technique is used to choose a tentacle as a sub-optimal path. Compared with the regular tentacles algorithm, the proposed ripple tentacle algorithm can get a better performance in vehicle's trajectory smoothness with an acceptable runtime expense. And another two traits can also distinguish this method: (a) it can avoid weight parameter adjustment in different environments and varied vehicle's states, and (b) it can be used in both unknown environment and partly known environment with goal point and global reference path. In the totally unknown environment, it acts as a pure obstacle avoidance algorithm, and when there is a global path, it can follow the reference path and avoid hazards simultaneously. © 2012 IEEE.
