  • Effects of high temperature treatment of carbon nanotube arrays on graphite : Increased crystallinity, anchoring and inter-tube bonding
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nanotechnology. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0957-4484 .- 1361-6528. ; 31:45
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Thermal treatment of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can significantly improve their mechanical, electrical and thermal properties due to reduced defects and increased crystallinity. In this work we investigate the effect of annealing at 3000 degrees C of vertically aligned CNT arrays synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on graphite. Raman measurements show a drastically reduced amount of defects and, together with transmission electron microscope (TEM) diffraction measurements, an increased average crystallite size of around 50%, which corresponds to a 124% increase in Young's modulus. We also find a tendency for CNTs to bond to each other with van der Waals (vdW) forces, which causes individual CNTs to closely align with each other. This bonding causes a densification effect on the entire CNT array, which appears at temperatures >1000 degrees C. The densification onset temperature corresponds to the thermal decomposition of oxygen containing functional groups, which otherwise prevents close enough contact for vdW bonding. Finally, the remaining CVD catalyst on the bottom of the CNT array is evaporated during annealing, enabling direct anchoring of the CNTs to the underlying graphite substrate.

  • The suitability of Hester–Dendy macroinvertebrate samplers in fluctuating flows
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Rivers Research and Applications. - Hoboken : John Wiley & Sons. - 1535-1459 .- 1535-1467. ; 37:6, s. 859-899
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Reliable methods for assessing the ecological status of degraded rivers are essential for evaluating restoration efforts in lotic habitats. Several methods are based on biological indicators, such as benthic macroinvertebrates. The Hester–Dendy multi‐plate sampler is a commonly used tool for sampling macroinvertebrates, but its performance under different environmental conditions is not well understood. In a laboratory experiment, we assessed if fluctuating and increasing water velocity influences the performance of Hester–Dendy samplers, by studying colonization of the samplers in relation to a pre‐determined composition of benthic macroinvertebrates. Biodiversity (Shannon‐Wiener index) of colonizing macroinvertebrates was higher in a constant than in a fluctuating flow treatment, but there was no effect on the number of colonizing individuals. The results suggest a potential bias in the interpretation of biodiversity data from sites with sub‐daily flow changes, for example, downstream of hydropeaking power plants.

  • Influencing project work : Exploring the potentials of participatory research
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Work-Applied Management. - : Emerald Group Publishing Limited. - 2205-2062 .- 2205-149X. ; 10:1, s. 63-73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to address the concept of participatory research (PR) in terms of its values and challenges in project work.Design/methodology/approach – A participative research approach was used in which researchers worked collaboratively with key stakeholders involved in the development of a digital network model for expert diagnostics. The approach involved research and data gathering in six work packages: first, participation at workshops, including the presentation of a preliminary research agenda; second, presentation of a revised research agenda; third, interviews with project managers and steering committee members; fourth, feedback sessions; fifth, participation at a project conference, including additional feedback sessions; and sixth, concluding interviews with project managers.Findings – The findings suggest that PR might strengthen project work through challenging interview questions and clear feedback. PR might empower the project manager by illuminating challenges and possibilities in the project process.Practical implications – Project managers may use PR as one strategy to empower project work.Originality/value – Despite the vast research on projects and project management, researchers and practitioners are still looking for ways to advance project work. This paper contributes with knowledge on how PR may advance project work.

  • Slöjdundervisning i grundsärskolan : En didaktisk studie om förutsättningar för Bildning
  • 2022
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The aim of this thesis is to increase knowledge about sloyd education in compulsory school for students with intellectual disability (CSID). The thesis is based in critical-constructive didactic theory and takes an interest in how sloyd education can create conditions for students to acquire Bildung, in terms of self-determination, co-determination and solidarity. Teaching and learning are understood as complex processes of social interaction involving the teacher, the student and the content at stake. Classrooms and schools are seen as subsystems of the society, thus, conditions for Bildung are manifested on several levels. Two part-studies produced the empirical material. A web survey asked questions about how arts education in CSID is valued and organised and was answered by 124 principals. A multiple case study examined the didactic relation, that is the teaching-studying-learning process. Teachers’ and students’ joint actions were analysed, as well as four aspects of content knowledge: practical, theoretical, social and aesthetic. A total of 4 sloyd teachers, 19 students and 12 paraprofessionals participated. In all, 43 sloyd lessons were video-recorded and 28 interviews with elements of stimulated recall were conducted. The results highlight factors at two levels related to students’ acquisition of Bildung. At school level, sloyd differs from music and visual art regarding teaching facilities and teachers’ competence. Conditions also vary depending on students’ age, the extent of students’ disability and principals’ school responsibility. At classroom level, five pedagogical situations exemplify how different didactic relations emerge through the joint actions of teachers and students. The conditions for Bildung vary depending on the content knowledge and the teachers’ and students’ moves in the joint actions, in the sense of who chooses and takes responsibility for developing the content and whether or not there is room for changes of the content over time.
