  • Predictions for single spin asymmetries in ℓ parrow -> π X and γ * parrow -> π X
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 13:3, s. 519-526
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Predictions for the single transverse spin asymmetry AN in semi-inclusive DIS processes are given; non-negligible values of AN may arise from spin effects in the fragmentation of a polarized quark into a final hadron with a transverse momentum ěc k⊥ with respect to the jet axis, the so-called Collins effect. The elementary single spin asymmetry of the fragmenting quark has been fixed in a previous paper, by fitting data on parrow p -> π X, and by assuming that the QCD factorization theorem holds also when transverse momenta are taken into account. The predictions given here are based on the assumption that the Collins effect is the only cause of the observed single spin asymmetries in parrow p -> π X. Eventual spin and ěc k⊥ dependences in the quark distribution functions, the so-called Sivers effect, are also discussed.

  • Results from the intercalibration of optical low-light calibration sources 2011
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Geoscientific Instrumentation, Methods and Data Systems. - : European Geosciences Union (EGU). - 2193-0856 .- 2193-0864. ; 1, s. 43-51
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Following the 38th Annual European Meeting on Atmospheric Studies by Optical Methods in Siuntio in Finland, an intercalibration workshop for optical low light calibration sources was held in Sodankylä, Finland. The main purpose of this workshop was to provide a comparable scale for absolute measurements of aurora and airglow. All sources brought to the intercalibration workshop were compared to the Fritz Peak reference source using the Lindau Calibration Photometer built by Wilhelm Barke and Hans Lauche in 1984. The results were compared to several earlier intercalibration workshops. It was found that most sources were fairly stable over time, with errors in the range of 5–25%. To further validate the results, two sources were also intercalibrated at UNIS, Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Preliminary analysis indicates agreement with the intercalibration in Sodankylä within about 15–25%.

  • Inclusive production of hadrons in lepton (polarized) p (polarized) ---> h (polarized) X and spin measurements
  • 1996
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of International Workshop on Deep Inelastic Scattering and Related Phenomena, DIS 96. ; , s. 583-589
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We discuss the production of polarized hadrons in polarized lepton nucleon interactions and show that the helicity density matrix of the hadron, when measurable, can give information on the spin structure of the nucleon and the spin dependence of the quark fragmentation process. Single spin asymmetries in the $\ell N^\uparrow \to hX$ process are also briefly discussed.

  • Spin measurements in l p ---> h X deep inelastic scattering
  • 1997
  • Ingår i: SPIN 96. - Singapore : World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd. - 9810230524 ; , s. 346-348
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The production of hadrons in polarized lepton-nucleon deep inelastic scattering is discussed. The helicity density matrix of the hadron is computed within the QCD hard scattering formalism and its elements are shown to yield information on the spin structure of the nucleon and the spin dependence of the quark fragmentation process. The case of $\rho$ vector mesons is considered in more detail and estimates are given.

  • Laser surface modification of a 13.5% Cr, 0.6% C steel
  • 1991
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Science. - 0022-2461 .- 1573-4803. ; 26:1, s. 43-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A 13.5% Cr, 0.6% C steel, with an initial microstructure of chromium carbides in a ferrite matrix, was heat-treated by scanning a high-power laser beam over the surface. The aim was to compare the physical and chemical properties produced by this type of selective surface treatment with those resulting from a conventional furnace desensitization and quench-hardening heat treatment. Surface heating homogenized the carbon originally bound in the carbides sufficiently to produce martensite, giving hardening to levels comparable with a conventional heat treatment. Chromium-rich zones, carbides and retained austenite were also detected in the heated microstructure. Surface melting produced complete homogenization of both carbon and chromium, which resulted in the retention of large amounts of austenite in the microstructure on cooling to room temperature. Subsequent refrigeration at - 196 °C transformed some of the austenite to martensite. Pitting corrosion and local reductions in hardness were observed adjacent to treated areas under certain conditions, due to precipitation of secondary carbides and elevated tempering, respectively.
