  • Autoantibodies Against Soluble and Immobilized Human Recombinant Tissue Transglutaminase in Children with Celiac Disease.
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition - Jpgn. - : Ovid Technologies (Wolters Kluwer Health). - 1536-4801 .- 0277-2116. ; 41:3, s. 322-327
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: The conformation of tissue transglutaminase might influence the performance of immunoassays to detect autoantibodies from patients with celiac disease. The present study investigated how the exposure of tissue transglutaminase kept in a liquid phase and fixed to a solid support affected the binding of immunoglobulin (Ig)A and IgG autoantibodies in children with untreated and treated celiac disease. Methods: Included were 73 untreated celiac disease children, 50 controls and 80 children with treated celiac disease. IgA and IgG antitissue transglutaminase were measured with solid phase enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA) and liquid phase radioligand binding assays. For IgG antitissue transglutaminase detection with radioligand binding assays antihuman IgG and protein A were used. IgA endomysial autoantibodies were measured by indirect immunofluorescence. Results: Both ELISA and radioligand binding assays detected IgA antitissue transglutaminase in 65 of 73 untreated celiac disease children and in 2 of 50 controls. One additional control child was detected with radioligand binding assays. Endomysial autoantibodies were present in 62 of 73 celiac disease children and in 2 of 50 controls. IgG antitissue transglutaminase was detected with both ELISA and radioligand binding assays in 40 of 73 untreated celiac disease children and in 2 of 50 controls. Radioligand binding assays using protein A detected 20 of 73 additional untreated celiac disease children and one control child with increased IgG antitissue transglutaminase. In treated celiac disease children, 21 of 80 were IgA antitissue transglutaminase positive with radioligand binding assays, 3 of 80 with ELISA, whereas none had endomysial autoantibodies. Conclusions: No qualitative differences between radioligand binding assays and ELISA in IgA or IgG antitissue transglutaminase binding from untreated celiac disease children was demonstrated. However, discrepancies in the binding of IgA antitissue transglutaminase from a subgroup of treated celiac disease children indicated that alterations of tissue transglutaminase might occur on fixation of the antigen. Protein A used for radioligand binding assays seemed not to assess IgG autoantibodies exclusively. IgA antitissue transglutaminase detection in screening of childhood celiac disease can be performed either by ELISA or radioligand binding assays because the two assays are interchangeable.

  • Vibrational wave packet dynamics in NaK : The A (1)Sigma(+) state
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Chemical Physics. - 0301-0104 .- 1873-4421. ; 241:1, s. 43-54
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A combined experimental and theoretical study of the vibrational wave packet dynamics for the NaK molecule in the A (1)Sigma(+) state is presented. The experiment utilises a 790 nm one-colour femtosecond pump-probe scheme with detection of a previously nor reported dissociation pathway of the 3 (1)Pi(+) state, leading to the Na(3p) + K(4s) product channel. The dissociation is suggested to proceed via either collisionally mediated processes or a molecular cascading process via the 4 (1)Sigma(+) state, which crosses several states correlating to the Na(3p) + K(4s) limit. Time-dependent quantum mechanical calculations are used for studying the dynamics in detail. Simulations are performed both for 790 nm and for 766 nm, to relate also to earlier studies. The previous interpretations of the probe processes are revised. Inclusion of vibrational and rotational temperature effects are shown to be crucial for explaining the shape of the signal and the vibrational period, and leads to excellent agreement with the experiments.

  • Theoretical debate and archaeological periodicals - incomparable?
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: Current Swedish Archaeology. - 1102-7355. ; 1995:3, s. 145-154
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the following article the authors will discuss the relationship between what Björn Myhre proposes as the current state of theory within Scandinavian archaeology and compare his interpretation with the issues presented in some of the Scandinavian archaeological periodicals. The discussion is based on project work carried out by students at the Dept. of Archaeology, Göteborg University. The authors of this article analyse the results of this project to see if "the post-modern period" is reflected in articles published during the period 1980-1994

  • Self-confidence and disordered eating amongst martial artists : a cross-sectional study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Asian Journal of Sports Medicine. - : Kowsar Publishing Company. - 2008-000X .- 2008-7209. ; 11:4, s. 1-7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Background: Extreme dieting is a well-known phenomenon in combat sports, and still, little research has explored the link between extreme dieting and confidence levels among martial artists. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, extreme dieting and sport-specific self-confidence among 111 Swedish athletes practicing mixed martial arts (MMA) or Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) were examined. Athletes completed an online survey containing the Eating Disorder Examination questionnaire (EDE-Q) and the Trait Sport-Confidence inventory (TSCI). Results: The results showed that MMA athletes dieted in more extreme ways than BJJ athletes, primarily via restricted eating. They also had higher sport-specific self-confidence, which was positively correlated with weight loss. BJJ athletes used less restrictive eating than MMA athletes, but those who did diet in extreme ways experienced lower self-confidence compared to MMA athletes. Conclusions: The results are consistent with previous studies showing rapid weight loss in MMA athletes and suggest that some martial artists are at a particular risk of extreme dieting and possible sequelae. There is a link between self-confidence and weight loss, but it seems to allude to a comprehensive explanation and is in need of further research.

  • Going for gold : A spectroelectrochemical and catalytic study of gold materials
  • 2023
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • With the increase in demand for renewable energy, understanding chemical processes is essential for improving the design of catalysts in order to achieve better performance. This thesis summarises the experimental investigation of three types of catalytic gold materials: gold oxide formed from gold films, oxide-derived gold (OD-Au) produced from gold films, and gold nanoparticles supported on metal oxides. Different spectroscopic techniques were employed, such as operando sum frequency generation (SFG) and in situ and ex situ X-ray spectroscopies. These methods allowed the probing of the electronic and chemical states of gold after oxidising electrochemical treatments. The results indicate the presence of subsurface gold oxide remnants after formation of OD-Au, which may help explain its improved catalytic properties with respect to pure gold. In addition, a mathematical model to couple the early stages of gold oxide formation with the nonlinear optical response of gold during this process is presented. This model suggests that the growth proceeds from small oxide islands to 3D oxide growth, while SFG oxidation variation is due to the suppression of the free electron density by negatively-charged adsorbing oxygen atoms. Gold oxide was also studied with both in situ and operando X-ray spectroscopies, showing the importance of a continuous electrochemical treatment during measurements to avoid beam induced effects. Furthermore, gold nanoparticles supported on metal oxides (TiO2 and γ-Fe2O3) were investigated mainly with mass spectrometry. The results indicate two different reaction pathways for oxidation of CO to CO2 depending on the type of metal oxide support. These findings could be used to help design future gold-based catalysts.

  • Multi-spectroscopic study of electrochemically-formed oxide-derived gold electrodes
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : Royal Society of Chemistry. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 26:3, s. 2332-2340
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oxide-derived metals are produced by reducing an oxide precursor. These materials, including gold, have shown improved catalytic performance over many native metals. The origin of this improvement for gold is not yet understood. In this study, operando non-resonant sum frequency generation (SFG) and ex situ high-pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HP-XPS) have been employed to investigate electrochemically-formed oxide-derived gold (OD-Au) from polycrystalline gold surfaces. A range of different oxidizing conditions were used to form OD-Au in acidic aqueous medium (H3PO4, pH = 1). Our electrochemical data after OD-Au is generated suggest that the surface is metallic gold, however SFG signal variations indicate the presence of subsurface gold oxide remnants between the metallic gold surface layer and bulk gold. The HP-XPS results suggest that this subsurface gold oxide could be in the form of Au2O3 or Au(OH)3. Furthermore, the SFG measurements show that with reducing electrochemical treatments the original gold metallic state can be restored, meaning the subsurface gold oxide is released. This work demonstrates that remnants of gold oxide persist beneath the topmost gold layer when the OD-Au is created, potentially facilitating the understanding of the improved catalytic properties of OD-Au.
