  • Acidification trends in south Swedish forest soils 1986-2008 : Slow recovery and high sensitivity to sea-salt episodes.
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Science of the Total Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 1879-1026 .- 0048-9697. ; 444, s. 271-287
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Soil water chemistry in forest soils over 20years was studied at nine sites in southern Sweden. The aim was to investigate the recovery from acidification and the influence of strong sea salt episodes that occur in the region. All sites but one showed signs of recovery from acidification along with the reduced sulphur deposition, but the recovery progress was slow and the soil water was in most cases still highly acidic at the end of the period. In several cases the recovery was delayed by episodes of sea salt deposition, leading to transient acidification. The less marked decrease of sulphur concentrations in soil water than of sulphur deposition, highlighted the importance of sulphur adsorption/desorption in the acidification and recovery process. Nitrogen retention capacity was exceeded on one site, leading to nitrate leaching and extremely low pH. Storm fellings on two sites in the end of the period led to effects similar to those of regeneration fellings. It was concluded that the soils in the region are in an early stage of recovery. The future progress of recovery strongly depends on future nitrogen retention of forest soils and the frequency of sea salt episodes.

  • Behind the very notes: Playful creativity in coping with notation
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education. - 0010-9894. ; :153, s. 148-153, s. 148-153
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study explores musicians' ways of taking and giving meaning to notation in Western tonal music. From a socio-cultural theoretical perspective relations between traditions and individuals were especially accounted for. Linked to this perspective the method for the study was developed. Experienced pianists commented on well-prepared performances of one freely chosen work, and prescribed pieces written without markings on expression. In the interpretations of the prescribed pieces a great variety of alternate implicit musical meaning was explored, even by musicians who mainly aimed at reproducing edited expression in their freely chose works. The conclusions was drawn that simple pieces written without markings on expression might serve as pedagogical tools in instrumental training. In a playful way students might develop their musical judgment and understanding of musical practice.

  • Total deposition of inorganic nitrogen to Norway spruce forests – Applying a surrogate surface method across a deposition gradient in Sweden
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Atmospheric Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 1352-2310 .- 1873-2844. ; 217, s. 1-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The dry and wet deposition of nitrate, NO3−, and ammonium, NH4+, were estimated for Norway spruce forests at ten monitoring sites across Sweden for the years 2014–2017. The particulate dry deposition was estimated based on measurements using Teflon string samplers as surrogate surfaces, in combination with the net throughfall deposition for sodium (throughfall subtracted with wet deposition). The wet deposition was estimated from bulk deposition measurements, corrected for dry deposition to the collectors. There was a strong gradient for total inorganic nitrogen (N) deposition across Sweden from north to southwest, ranging from 2 to 20 kg N ha−1 yr−1. The values for N deposition derived from measurements were for most sites exceeding the corresponding values derived from modelling with the MATCH and EMEP models, in southern Sweden by up to 4–6 kg N ha−1 y−1. Based on comparisons between total and throughfall deposition, the canopy uptake of atmospheric N deposition to Norway spruce forests in Sweden was estimated to be in the range of 0–7 kg N ha−1 yr−1.

  • Use of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) for increased circularity and valorization of rapeseed residues
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Management. - 0301-4797. ; 344
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In Europe, rapeseed is a common oilseed crop, resulting in the production of 20 million tons of rapeseed press cake yearly. This press cake can be further upcycled and a protein fraction can be extracted for food purposes, leaving de-proteinized fiber-rich residues. This study examined the use of these residues in the production of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) and of the spent substrate as feed, since mushroom cultivation may improve the feed properties of substrate. In terms of mushroom production, the addition of rapeseed press residues was beneficial, giving significantly higher biological efficiency (BE = 93.1 ± 11.0%) compared with the control, sugar beet pulp substrate (70.0 ± 6.6%). This increase in productivity can most likely be explained by higher energy content in the substrate supplemented with lipid-rich rapeseed residues. Despite differences in BE between the substrates, high similarity was observed in lipid composition of the fruiting bodies (lipid profile dominated by linoleic acid (18:2), palmitic acid (16:0), and oleic acid (18:1)), and in protein and moisture content. After mushroom harvest, approximately 70% of the initial dry weight of both substrates remained as a possible feed source. Both substrates had significantly lower levels of carbohydrates and unchanged neutral detergent fiber content after mushroom harvest, and both gave lower in vitro digestibility, total gas production, and methane production. However, protein concentration differed between the substrates, with the highest concentration (15.8% of dry weight) found in spent substrate containing rapeseed press residues. The result of the present study suggests that the de-proteinized rapeseed press residue is a resource well-suited for use in the production of mushrooms and feed.
