  • Differentiation and survival influences of growth factors in human neuroblastoma
  • 1995
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Cancer. - : Elsevier. - 0959-8049 .- 1879-0852. ; 31A:4, s. 453-458
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Human neuroblastoma cell lines are established from high-stage, highly malignant tumours. Despite this and the fact that these tumours are arrested at an early, immature stage, many cell lines have the capacity to undergo neuronal differentiation under proper growth conditions. One such cell line is the noradrenergic SH-SY5Y cell line. These cells can be induced to mature by a variety of modalities, resulting in different mature phenotypes. The use of this cell system as a model to study the stem cell character of neuroblastoma is reviewed and discussed. In particular, we focus on growth factor dependencies in the SH-SY5Y system, and compare that to the normal situation, i.e. growth factor control of sympathetic neuronal and neuroendocrine differentiation during human and rat embryogenesis.

  • Exploring the interactions between starches, bentonites and plasticizers in sustainable barrier coatings for paper and board
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Applied Clay Science. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 0169-1317 .- 1872-9053. ; 183
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Effective food packaging is a major factor in the current global drive to minimise food waste. Starch is an excellent oxygen barrier for packaging but it is brittle and moisture sensitive. The addition of layered minerals and plasticizers can significantly improve the moisture barrier and flexibility of the resulting composite. Some combinations of starch and plasticizer are incompatible but our results show that the addition of bentonite ensures the formation of coherent starch films with much improved moisture barrier regardless of the starch-plasticizer compatibility. It was clearly demonstrated that improvement of the moisture barrier was critically dependent on the layer charge of the bentonite used. Starch was readily accommodated in the interlayer space of bentonites with a layer charge of <0.4 electrons per formula unit but was not adsorbed if the layer charge was above this value. Starch-bentonite-plasticizer coatings prepared using bentonites with the lower layer charge routinely produced higher barriers to water vapour. The water vapour transmission rate (WVTR) of the base paper was reduced from 780 to 340 ± 20 g m2 day−1 when coated with starch alone. This was further reduced to 48 or 66 g m2 day−1 if glycerol or lower charge bentonite, respectively, was added to the starch. Optimised coatings of starch-lower charge bentonite-plasticizer provided WVTR values of ≤10 g m2 day−1 whereas WVTR values for comparative coatings prepared using the higher charge bentonites were three to four times higher (35 ± 7 g m2 day−1). Scanning electron micrographs provided clear evidence for the presence of 60 nm thick supramolecular layers formed from starch-bentonite-plasticizer in the samples coated on either glass or paper. The WVTR values for these low-eco footprint coatings are competitive with proprietary coatings prepared using petroleum derived resins.

  • Imaging of the electronic states on the Si(111)1×1-As surface using a display-type photoelectron analyzer
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Surface Science 482-485, 600 (2001).
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • e have measured the electronic structure of the arsenic-terminated Si(1 1 1)1×1As surface with angle-resolved photoemission using a display-type analyzer. The analyzer records energy-resolved angular distribution patterns of the photoelectrons in a solid angle of ?=43° and ?=360°, thereby covering the entire surface Brillouin zone at the binding energies measured here. Using this instrument we have mapped the entire two-dimensional dispersion of the lone-pair surface state, from the band maximum at to the global minima at the -points. In addition, the two-dimensional dispersions of the three upper valence bands are mapped, showing their threefold symmetry, using a photon energy of 21.2 eV. Our results are in good agreement with previous experiments and earlier quasiparticle band structure calculations

  • Management of risks in societal planning : An analysis of scope and variety of health, safety and security issues in municipality plan documents
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Safety Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-7535 .- 1879-1042. ; 44:8, s. 675-688
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The article is explorative and deals with the management of risk in conjunction with municipality planning of the physical environments in Sweden. The central research question was to investigate; “How are questions about risk issues treated in Swedish societal planning today?” Subject of investigation is a sample of municipal comprehensive master plan documents. The aim was to present a descriptive review of what risks regarding health, safety and security that are considered in a set of municipal comprehensive master plan documents prepared and adopted by Swedish municipalities. Additional aims are to describe how risks are dealt with (in what terms, extent and depth) and also to examine how risks are advocated to be handled in the future. Findings show that the plans include several visions, strategies and suggested improvements concerning risk-related issues, all aiming to create a healthier, safer and more secure municipality. However everyday risks in everyday surroundings attract less attention than disastrous risks with low probabilities and large consequences. Integration and management of risks is advocated to be further considered in more elaborated planning processes, but few plans specify how, when and with which participants. Few plans present a more philosophical discussion within their plans about different types of risks in society. Findings indicate further needs to examine and develop the planning process with regard to the management of risks from a broader variety of perspectives, and with special emphasis also on more “common threats”.

  • The role of customer knowledge development for incremental and radical service innovation in servitized manufacturers
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Journal of Business Research. - : Elsevier. - 0148-2963 .- 1873-7978. ; 98, s. 328-338
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Service innovation is a key driver of service infusion for manufacturers. Although service innovation is widely researched for service firms, it is less explored for service infusion in manufacturers. Existing research about service infusion considers developing customer knowledge in sales and service delivery, but there is scarce research about how manufacturers develop customer knowledge during new service development (NSD). This study investigates customer knowledge development within manufacturers and considers how it differs between the development of incremental and radical service innovations. A study was undertaken with 239 European manufacturers which revealed multiple drivers of customer knowledge development, service innovation performance, and firm performance. Developing incremental service innovations are more successful when customers participate in NSD teams while developing radical service innovations leads manufacturers to higher firm performance.
