  • Online content creators’ and viewers’ interdependent journeys
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Services Marketing Quarterly. - : Routledge. - 1533-2969 .- 1533-2977. ; 45:3, s. 296-318
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The creator economy features a pertinent, growing role of content creators and -viewers, revealing this service sub-sector’s rising economic, and strategic, contribution. In parallel, though the customer/stakeholder journey concepts are gaining traction, little is known about the interdependence characterizing online content creators’ and viewers’ (users’) engagement through their respective role-related journeys, as, therefore, explored further in this article. Building on prior literature, we argue that the unfolding of a content viewer’s journey with a creator’s content is fueled by the former’s engagement in their content-related interactions, in turn also impacting the content creator’s journey. To explore these issues, we adopt interdependence theory’s core interactional tenets (i.e., perceived interaction outcomes [i.e., costs/rewards], comparison level, and comparison level for alternatives) and theorize regarding their respective effect on viewers’ journey-based content engagement. We posit that viewers’ engagement also impacts the content creator’s journey, as summarized in a set of Propositions. Overall, the Propositions illustrate how interdependence theory-informed interactional tenets affect content viewers’ and creators’ interdependent role-related journeys, offering novel insight.

  • Outsourcing and backsourcing in a time of crisis – experiences of double opportunism
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: International Review of Public Administration. - : Taylor & Francis Group. - 1229-4659 .- 2331-7795. ; 29:2, s. 102-122
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This article addresses the question of how public organizations with limited capacity manage to handle large scale crises. The case analyzed in this article is the sourcing of accommodation during the migration crisis in Sweden of 2015–2016. The event was a game-changer in Swedish migration policy following a more hesitant policy than before, even though new and substantial migration crisis have followed since then. Results show how the legal framework for procurements was not adapted for extraordinary events. The Swedish state was forced to pay exaggerated prices as private contractors took advantage of the acute demand. The study develops our theoretical understanding of the sourcing process during crises and show how the short-term perspective and uncertainties that characterize crises encourage both suppliers and procurers of services to act opportunistically.

  • Where to shop? : understanding consumers' choices of grocery stores
  • 2016
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • For the last couple of decades consumer decision-making has been of increasing interest for retail as well as for consumer behaviour research. Food shopping constitutes a unique type of shopping behaviour. In comparison to other types of shopping, food is essential to life, and not often are there as many choices to be made in a short period of time as when shopping groceries. The purpose of this dissertation was to advance the knowledge of what influences consumers’ choices of grocery stores. More specifically, the main focus has been on how different situations (e.g., type of shopping) influence choices of grocery stores. Five papers, which build on three surveys on how consumers choose grocery stores in Sweden, are included in this dissertation. In the first paper a comprehensive set of ten aggregated attributes that determine store choices were developed. The second paper brought forward five consumer segments (Planning Suburbans, Social Shoppers, Pedestrians, City Dwellers, and Flexibles) based on where and how they shop. In the third paper it was shown that accessibility attributes (e.g., accessibility by car, availability) and attractiveness attributes (e.g., price, service) have different impacts on satisfaction, depending on consumer characteristics and shopping behaviour in supermarkets compared to convenience stores. In the fourth paper the result showed that satisfaction is affected by type of grocery shopping (major versus fill-in shopping) in conjunction with time pressure and which store attributes that are important for satisfaction. It was also shown that the effect of time pressure and type of shopping on satisfaction varied in different consumer segments. In the final paper it was shown that a store has to be more attractive in terms of attributes for a consumer to switch from the grocery store they usually patronage, even if the new store is situated right beside or closer than the consumer’s regular grocery store. The view of a “good location” is further developed in this dissertation, arguing that consumers’ mental distance to a store – their cognitive proximity – is much more important than the physical place of the store. In sum, this dissertation revealed that the situation is more important than previous research has shown. Depending on the situation, consumers will face different outcomes (different stores) and value different store attributes. Hence, stores need to manage different store attributes depending on which consumer groups the stores want to attract and what situation the consumers are facing. Therefore, consumers’ choices of grocery stores are situation-based choices.

  • Acceptance and commitment therapy for autistic adults : a randomized controlled pilot study in a psychiatric outpatient setting
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Autism. - : Sage Publications. - 1362-3613 .- 1461-7005. ; 27:5, s. 1461-1476
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Autistic adults are at risk of stress-related psychiatric disorders and reduced life quality due to social, cognitive, and perceptual challenges. Mental health interventions adapted to autistic adults are scarce. Acceptance and commitment therapy has preliminarily indicated health benefits in autistic adults, although it has not been robustly evaluated. Overall, 39 adults (21 males; 21–72 years) with autism spectrum disorder and normal intellectual ability (IQ M = 108.5; SD = 13.5) were randomized to 14 weeks of adapted acceptance and commitment therapy group treatment (NeuroACT) or treatment as usual. The intervention was feasible. Perceived stress and quality of life (primary outcomes), alongside psychological inflexibility, cognitive fusion, cognitive and behavioral avoidance, and autistic mannerism were statistically significantly improved in NeuroACT compared with treatment as usual (d = 0.70–0.90). Clinically significant changes in perceived stress and quality of life were in favor of NeuroACT. Between-group altered depression, anxiety, sleep problems, one quality of life measure, functional impairment, social aspects of autism, and executive difficulties were statistically non-significant. Dropout was slightly higher in NeuroACT. NeuroACT may be a promising treatment for autistic adults with co-existing stress and reduced quality of life. More extensive studies are warranted to evaluate NeuroACT further.

  • Trust as subject content: Advancing students’ reasoning on democracy through displacement
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Social Science Education. - : Sowi-Online e.V., Universität Bielefeld. - 1618-5293. ; 22:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: The article explores how the tension between embracing and scrutinising democracy can be productively overcome through social science teaching about democracy that focuses on trust as a subject content.Design/methodology/approach: Empirical materials were collected through focus group interviews before and after an inquiry-based teaching segment on trust, and the materials were analysed qualitatively through three grounded themes.Findings: It is argued that working with the displacement of subject content in inquiry-based teaching about democracy enhances the possibilities for students to deepen their knowledge about democracy, while enabling them to scrutinise the democratic system critically.Research limitations/implications: The article reports from a small-scale study of four classes in two upper secondary schools in Sweden, and the study provides tentative observations and conclusions that should be investigated further in future research.Practical implications: The article shows how trust as a subject content can contribute to problematising students’ understandings of democracy, and how the displacement of content can be important in formulating compelling questions and in designing inquiries on democracy.

  • 2017

  • New Transportation Technology : Norm Activation Processes and the Intention to Switch to an Electric/Hybrid Vehicle
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Transport Research Arena TRA2016. - : Elsevier. ; , s. 2527-2536
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since humans' activities contribute to climate change it is important to change behavior. Switching to a hybrid/plugin/electric vehicle (HEV/PHEV/EV) for personal transport can be one way. In this study the intention to switch to a HEV/PHEV/EV is studied from the theoretical framework of the moral norm-activation theory of altruism (Schwartz, 1977) and the Value-Belief-Norm (VBN) Theory of environmentalism (Stern et al., 1999). Data was collected using a survey to three groups, alternative fuel vehicle owners (AFV, mainly E85/ethanol), fossil fuel vehicle owners (conventional vehicles, CV), and hybrid/plugin/electric vehicle owners (HEV/PHEV/EV). A SEM model was proposed, and tested on the subsamples of CV and AFV owners, of a hierarchical process of influence from the more general (e.g. values) to the more specific (e.g. beliefs, norms) and finally the intention. The results supported the proposed norm-activation model and showed that problem awareness was more influential in the AFV than in the CV group. In addition, a comparison between the three subgroups (CV, AFV and HEV/PHEV/EV) showed that HEV/PHEV/EV owners differed significantly from CV and AFV owners, in that they were more open to change, less conservative, showed a higher problem awareness, self-efficacy, and a stronger personal norm. The results from this study may have implications for future work of increasing the number of electric vehicles on the roads and thereby contribute to less direct emissions from car traffic.

  • The importance of market and entrepreneurial strategic orientations among companies committed to sustainability values and practices
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Business Strategies for Sustainability. - Abingdon : Routledge. - 9781138311343 - 9780429458859
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the last few decades it has become ever clearer that humankind faces many serious environmental challenges. As the corporate sector has been identified as an important actor to address these challenges, understanding why certain companies choose to adopt sustainability initiatives, while others do not, is an important question. However, little previous research has addressed how sustainability is linked with core business strategies and concepts. In this chapter, we address this gap by highlighting how corporate strategic orientations relate to adherence to an ecological worldview and different measures of sustainability performance. Using an analytical framework where companies are classified according to their level of market and entrepreneurial orientation, we find that companies high in these orientations also display higher levels of integration of sustainability in corporate strategies and culture. The main implication of this study points to the importance of market and entrepreneurial strategic orientations among companies committed to sustainability values and practices.

  • Adoption of alternative fuel vehicles : Influence from neighbors, family and coworkers
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Transportation Research Part D. - : Elsevier BV. - 1361-9209 .- 1879-2340. ; 54, s. 61-73
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During the last years, many governments have set targets for increasing the share of biofuels in the transportation sector. Understanding consumer behavior is essential in designing policies that efficiently increase the uptake of cleaner technologies. In this paper we analyze adopters and non-adopters of alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs). We use diffusion of innovation theory and the established notion that the social system and interpersonal influence play important roles in adoption. Based on a nationwide database of car owners we analyze interpersonal influence on adoption from three social domains: neighbors, family and coworkers. The results point primarily at a neighbor effect in that AFV adoption is more likely if neighbors also have adopted. The results also point at significant effects of interpersonal influence from coworkers and family members but these effects weaken or disappear when income, education level, marriage, age, gender and green party votes are controlled for. The results extend the diffusion of innovation and AFV literature with empirical support for interpersonal influence based on objective data where response bias is not a factor. Implications for further research, environmental and transport policy, and practitioners are discussed.

  • Examining drivers of sustainable consumption : the influence of norms and opinion leadership on electric vehicle adoption in Sweden
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Journal of Cleaner Production. - : Elsevier BV. - 0959-6526 .- 1879-1786. ; 154, s. 176-187
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transportation accounts for a large and growing part of carbon dioxide emissions. With an increasing vehicle fleet worldwide private car use is becoming an acute problem in need of urgent attention and action. Policy interference and cleaner cars are not enough; alternative fuel vehicles such as electric vehicles need to be adopted by consumers as well. Previous research on pro-environmental consumer behavior and sustainable consumption has proven the importance of norms and pro-environmental attitudes. However, little research has focused on understanding interpersonal influence found influential in consumer behavior research relating to innovation adoption. Consumer opinion leading and opinion seeking are two such interpersonal influence attitudinal constructs that have not been empirically analyzed in relation to sustainable consumption and alternative fuel vehicles. The main aim of this study is thus to analyze the influence of a set of attitudinal constructs on electric and flexfuel vehicle adoption: personal norms, social norms, ecological attitudes, opinion leading, and opinion seeking. Data from a questionnaire survey on three groups of electric vehicle adopters and non-adopters is used (N=1,192). The results confirm the importance of personal norms, opinion leading and opinion seeking in the three groups also when controlling for socio-demographic factors. The main contribution of this study is that it shows the importance of both interpersonal influence and attitudinal factors as drivers for eco-innovation adoption. The study also contributes in showing that electric vehicle and flexfuel vehicle adopters differ in relation to non-adopters on several factors.
