  • A High Performance Computing Framework for Finite Element Simulation of Blood Flow in the Left Ventricle of the Human Heart
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computational Science and Engineering. - Cham : Springer. ; , s. 155-164
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a high performance computing framework for finite element simulation of blood flow in the left ventricle of the human heart. The mathematical model is described together with the discretization method and the parallel implementation in Unicorn which is part of the open source software framework FEniCS-HPC. We show results based on patient-specific data that capture essential features observed with other computational models and imaging techniques, and thus indicate that our framework possesses the potential to provide relevant clinical information for diagnosis and medical treatment. Several other studies have been conducted to simulate the three dimensional blood flow in the left ventricle of the human heart with prescribed wall movement. Our contribution to the field of cardiac research lies in establishing an open source framework modular both in modelling and numerical algorithms.

  • Culture, Creativity and Economy : Collaborative Practices, Value Creation and Spaces of Creativity
  • 2021
  • Samlingsverk (redaktörskap) (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This book nuances our understanding of the contemporary creative economy by engaging with a set of three key tensions which emerged over the course of eight European Colloquiums on Culture, Creativity and Economy (CCE): 1) the tension between individual and collaborative creative practices, 2) the tension between tradition and innovation, and 3) the tension between isolated and interconnected spaces of creativity.Rather than focusing on specific processes, such as production, industries or locations, the tensions acknowledge and engage with the messy and restless nature of the creative economy. Individual chapters offer insights into poorly understood practices, locations and contexts such as co-working spaces in Berlin and rural Spain, creative businesses in Leicester and the role and importance of cultural intermediaries in creative economies within Africa. Others examine the nature of trans-local cultural flows, the evolving "field" of fashion, and the implications of social media and crowdfunding platforms. This book will be of interest to students, scholars and professionals researching the creative economy, as well as specific cultural and creative industries, across the humanities and social sciences.

  • The role of consumer innovativeness and green perceptions on green innovation use : The case of shared e-bikes and e-scooters
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Consumer Behaviour. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 1472-0817 .- 1479-1838. ; 20:6, s. 1466-1479
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The growing awareness of environmental issues can be linked to the demand for green transport innovations. Consumer behavior studies have pointed to the importance of consumer innovativeness (CI) and green perceptions in the adoption of green innovations. The purpose of this paper is to identify how users and nonusers of shared micromobility perceive the greenness of shared e-bikes and e-scooters and how CI affects shared microvehicle adoption. The paper also analyses the relationships between green perceptions and environmental referent cognitions?biospheric values, environmental knowledge, ascription of responsibility, and environmental attitudes. Shared e-bike and e-scooter users and nonusers in Copenhagen and Stockholm were surveyed using an online questionnaire. Results revealed that users consider themselves innovative and perceive the shared microvehicles as relatively green, while nonusers do not. When comparing users, CI and green perceptions relate to shared e-bike use, but notably, only CI is linked to shared e-scooter use. The results also show that environmental knowledge and environmental attitudes are related to green perceptions. The practical and theoretical implications of the results are discussed.

  • Bone Conduction Stimulated VEMP Using the B250 Transducer
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Medical Devices: Evidence and Research. - 1179-1470. ; 14, s. 225-237
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: Bone conduction (BC) stimulation is rarely used for clinical testing of vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) due to the limitations of conventional stimulation alternatives. The aim of this study is to compare VEMP using the new B250 transducer with the Minishaker and air conduction (AC) stimulation. Methods: Thirty normal subjects between 20 and 37 years old and equal gender distribution were recruited, 15 for ocular VEMP and 15 for cervical VEMP. Four stimulation conditions were compared: B250 on the mastoid (FM); Minishaker and B250 on the forehead (FZ); and AC stimulation using an insert earphone. Results: It was found that B250 at FM required a statistically significant lower hearing level than with AC stimulation, in average 41 dB and 35 dB lower for ocular VEMP and cervical VEMP, respectively, but gave longer n10 (1.1 ms) and n23 (1.6 ms). No statistical difference was found between B250 at FM and Minishaker at FZ. Conclusion: VEMP stimulated with B250 at FM gave similar response as the Minishaker at FZ and for a much lower hearing level than AC stimulation using insert earphones.

  • Diffusion of Battery Electric Vehicles : The Role of Total Cost of Ownership
  • 2020
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Due to their high efficiency, zero tailpipe emissions and possibilities of using renewable electricity, Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have been proposed as a way to alleviate the negative consequences of transport. However, as with other energy-efficient innovations market uptake or diffusion of BEVs have so far been limited. Three main barriers for BEV diffusion have been identified in the literature: limited range, lack of charging and high purchase price. Range and charging have been extensively studied. The high purchase price and other ownership costs of BEVs has not received the same amount of attention. The focus of this thesis is to go beyond the purchase price of BEVs, that in general is higher than for Internal Combustion Engine Vehicles (ICEVs). This thesis will center on costs; as the low running cost of BEVs validates further investigations regarding the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) compared to ICEVs. The aim of this thesis is therefore to investigate the TCO of BEVs for both private and professional use-cases relative to the TCO of ICEVs, and further, to explore to which degree TCO is incorporated in the vehicle choice process. The main theoretical underpinnings of this thesis are innovation diffusion theory, a set of theories that describes the process by which an innovation is adopted among the members of a social system. In a narrower consumer behavior setting, rational choice and the emerging literature in behavior economics also forms an important theoretical basis for this thesis. The method choices in the four studies included in this thesis reflects the complex socio-technical system that BEVs inhabits. A mix of quantitative (e.g. surveys and driving data) and qualitative (interviews) methods have been used. The results of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) computations in this thesis indicate that the actual cost of BEVs can be lower than for equivalent ICEVs. This has been validated for different contexts and use-cases in both private and professional settings. However, the actual TCO of BEVs is likely to have a small influence on vehicle choice. The results indicate that only a small minority (4 %) of mainstream vehicle buyers conducted a complete TCO analysis and that the majority (58 %) did not calculate any ownerships costs into their vehicle choice process. In addition, vehicle buyers have a poor understanding of on-going vehicle ownership costs of their present vehicle. Thus, they are uninformed about vehicle costs in general and of TCO in particular. Calculating TCO is a challenging task for consumers, requiring both cognitive efforts and time. It can be suspected that vehicle buyers instead use purchase price as a proxy for TCO. Approximation of costs through purchase price could yield significant overestimation in the cost of owning and operating a BEV. This thesis argues that the market introduction of BEVs requires a new approach to evaluate vehicle costs among the stakeholders involved. The relationship between high effort costs and unknown ownership cost is radically altered due to the low ownership costs of BEVs. The potential rewards of being attentive to TCO are thus larger in the case of BEVs compared to ICEVs. Several aspects have been found to correlate to being more TCO attentive: higher income, higher educational level, having a larger comparison set of vehicles and increased stated importance of TCO in vehicle choice. However, vehicle buyers receive little assistance from vehiclesalespeople in estimating TCO of BEVs. Vehicle salespeople often focus on purchase price instead of taking the time to estimate TCO. Lower financial incentives for selling BEVs could be an underlying cause for vehicle salespeople not to emphasize the potential cost superiorities of BEVs in relation to ICEVs. In addition, the results allude that additional barriers related to BEV diffusion remains important. This is exemplified in the professional use-case of taxis that was investigated in this thesis, where range and charging limitations of BEVs negatively affected work conditions.Four main conclusions can be drawn based on the results of this thesis: BEVs can be TCO competitive with ICEVs, TCO is rarely applied in the vehicle choice process, the market introduction of BEVs requires a new approach to evaluate vehicle costs among the stakeholders involved, and that improved understanding and application of vehicle TCO would improve the diffusion outlook of BEVs by improving their relative advantage. Based on these conclusions it is recommend that industry and public policy address the apparent misalignment between perceived and actual TCO of BEVs. This can be done by: improving knowledge of TCO among vehicle buyers, creating a comprehensive yet simple to use TCO computational tool and increasing the financial incentives of selling BEVs for vehicle salespeople.

  • Death by Streaming or Vinyl Revival? : Exploring the Spatial Dynamics and Value-Creating Strategies of Stockholm’s Independent Record Shops
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of Consumer Culture. - : Sage Publications. - 1469-5405 .- 1741-2900. ; 20:4, s. 478-497
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The contemporary retail landscape is in flux, and there is a growing perception thatshopping at bricks and mortar stores is more expensive and time-consuming thanshopping online. For music, illegal downloading and streaming have restructured theretail landscape and put thousands of record shops out of business. Yet, some retailersremain attractive consumption spaces. Drawing on a qualitative case study of independentrecord shops in Stockholm, this article considers three value-creating strategies thatsustain these physical retailers in the digital age: cultivating in-store consumer experiences, creating value through curation, and tapping into global markets by going online.

  • Introduction : Exploring tensions in the creative economy
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Culture, Creativity and Economy. - : Routledge. - 9781032053271
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The restless dynamism of the contemporary creative economy requires ongoing empirical study, theorisation and critical reflection. This introductory chapter outlines how this book contributes to existing studies, debates and knowledge by focusing on three key tensions: 1) the tension between individual and collaborative creative practices, 2) the tension between tradition and innovation, and 3) the tension between isolated and interconnected spaces of creativity. It also shares the story of the European Colloquium on Culture, Creativity and Economy (CCE Network), previews the nine empirical chapters and suggests some avenues for further research.

  • Chapter 15: Circular economy and sustainable consumption: Suggestions for ethical marketing
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: The SAGE Handbook of Marketing Ethics. - 9781529709292
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Currently there is an ongoing push towards a circular economy. Governments, the EU, green NGOs, think-tanks, companies and their industry organizations are all advocating more circular solutions meaning that the current linear take-make-use-lose model of consumption should be replaced with a reuse-repair-recycle circular model. The circular economy is being heralded as one of the main, if not the only, solution to the current pressing sustainability problems such as climate change and biodiversity loss. Companies are struggling to develop business models that are more in line with this circular thinking, closely related to the so-called sharing economy, where sharing of product take priority over ownership. Car sharing, tool libraries, and repair shops are some examples that are starting to attract consumers, although progress hitherto has been slow. In order to attract consumers, words such as refurbished, zero-waste, recycled, and recyclable are being used by marketers. At the surface it might be easy to get the impression that the circular economy is already here and that consumers can go on consuming as before as long as the products are part of the circular system. Might it even be so that an increasing focus on the circular economy could detract attention from the necessary reduction of consumption and material throughput? The purpose of this chapter is to critically examine the problems and possibilities of the circular economy and discuss how it is related to (un)ethical marketing and what is necessary if the circular economy is to contribute to solving the pressing sustainability problems. This is done by discussing how the circular economy can be promoted together with consumption reduction, the necessity of certain policies and regulations, and the importance of handling consumer lock-in and potential rebound effects in making the circular economy not only technically achievable but also more ethical.
