  • Long-term follow-up of the SBG 9401 study comparing tailored FEC-based therapy versus marrow-supported high-dose therapy
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Annals of Oncology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0923-7534 .- 1569-8041. ; 18:4, s. 694-700
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The purpose was to investigate adjuvant marrow-supportive high-dose chemotherapy compared with an equitoxicity-tailored comparator arm. Patients and methods: Five hundred and twenty-five women below theage of 60 years with operated high-risk primary breast cancer were randomised to nine cycles of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor supported and individually tailored FEC (5-fluorouracil, epirubicin, cyclophosphamide), (n = 251) or standard FEC followed by marrow-supported high-dose therapy with CTCb (cyclophosphamide, thiotepa, carboplatin) therapy (n = 274), followed by locoregional radiotherapy and tamoxifen for 5 years. Results: There were 104 breast cancer relapses in the tailored FEC group versus 139 in the CTCb group (double triangular method by Whitehead, P = 0.046), with a median follow-up of all included patients of 60.8 months. The event-free survival demonstrated 121 and 150 events in the tailored FEC- and CTCb group, respectively [P = 0.074, hazard ratio (HR) 0.804, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.633-1.022]. Ten patients in the tailored FEC regimen developed acute myeloid leukaemia (AML)/myelodysplasia (MDS). One hundred deaths occurred in the tailored FEC group and 121 in the CTCb group (P = 0.287, HR 0.866, 95% CI 0.665-1.129). Conclusion: The update of this study shows an improved outcome linked to the tailored FEC treatment in relation to breast cancer relapse, but also an increased incidence of AML/MDS. © 2007 Oxford University Press.

  • ESR and theoretical studies of trimer radical cations of coronene
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Spectrochimica Acta Part A - Molecular and Biomolecular Spectroscopy. - : Elsevier BV. - 1386-1425 .- 1873-3557. ; 63:1, s. 76-84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Highly resolved ESR spectra of monomer, dimer and trimer radical cations of coronene (C24H12) were observed at room temperature for a solution of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propan-2-ol (HFP) containing thallium(III) trifluoroacetate as oxidant. The spectra consisting of multiple lines with isotropic 1H-hyperfine splitting (hfs) constants of 0. 0766 mT (24H) and 0.013 mT (6H) were attributable to a mixture of the dimer with the trimer radical cations, (C24H12)2+ and (C24H12)3+. For (C24H12)2+, the 1H-hfs constant agreed well with the reported value, 0.077 mT. However, for (C 24H12)3+, the values were significantly different from the reported ones, 0.117 mT (12H) and 0.020 mT (24H), by Ohya Nishiguchi et al. [H. Ohya-Nishiguchi, H. Ide, N. Hirota, Chem. Phys. Lett. 66 (1979) 581], but rather similar to those reported by Willigen et al. [H. van Willigen, E. De Boer, J.T. Cooper, W.F. Forbes, J. Chem . Phys. 49 (1968) 1190]. In conflict with Willigen's report, however, no ESR line broadening which has been ascribed to a low stationary concentration of (C 24H12)3+ was detected. Based on ab initio MO calculations for benzene as a compact model of C24H 12, the structure of (C24H12)3+ was investigated in terms of the observed 1H-hfs constants. A staggered sandwich C2v structure was suggested being at the "global" minimum for the benzene trimer cation. In the structure, the unpaired electron spin is predominantly localized to the central ring, which is qualitatively in agreement with the previous ESR results of (C 24H12)3+ by Ohya-Nishiguchi et al. In addition, as a "local" minimum, the benzene trimer was indicated to have a slipped sandwich Cs structure, which is less stable by ca. 19 kJ mol-1 than the "global" minimum. In this structure, the unpaired electron spin was nearly equally distributed on both the central and one of the two side C24H12 molecules. The observed 1H-hfs constants were possibly attributable to the (C 24H12)3+ cation with the analogous slipped sandwich Cs structure.

  • On the origin of a third spectral component of C1s XPS-spectra for nc-TiC/a-C nanocomposite thin films
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Surface & Coatings Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0257-8972 .- 1879-3347. ; 202:15, s. 3563-3570
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) spectra of sputter-etched nc-TiC/a-C nanocomposite thin films published in literature show an extra feature of unknown origin in the C1s region. This feature is situated between the contributions of carbide and the carbon matrix. We have used high kinetic energy XPS (HIKE-XPS) on magnetron-sputtered nc-TiC/a-C thin films to show that this feature represents a third chemical environment in the nanocomposites, besides the carbide and the amorphous carbon. Our results show that component is present in as-deposited samples, and that the intensity is strongly enhanced by Ar+-ion etching. This third chemical environment may be due to interface or disorder effects. The implications of these observations on the XPS analysis of nanocomposites are discussed in the light of overlap problems for ternary carbon based systems.

  • Trends in cutaneous malignant melanoma in Sweden 1997-2011: Thinner tumours and improved survival among men
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Dermatology. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0007-0963 .- 1365-2133. ; 172:3, s. 700-706
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Both patient survival and the proportion of patients diagnosed with thin cutaneous malignant melanoma (CMM) have been steadily rising in Sweden as in most western countries, though the rate of improvement in survival appears to have declined in Sweden at the end of last millennium. Objectives: To analyse the most recent trends in the distribution of tumour thickness (T-category) as well as CMM-specific survival in Swedish patients diagnosed 1997-2011.Methods: This nationwide population-based study included 30 590 patients registered in the Swedish Melanoma Register (SMR) and diagnosed with a first primary invasive CMM 1997-2011. The patients were followed through 2012 in the national Cause-of-Death Register. Results: Logistic and Cox regression analyses adjusting for age at diagnosis, tumour site, and health care region were carried out. The odds ratio for being diagnosed with thicker tumours was significantly reduced (P = 0·0008) and the CMM-specific survival significantly improved in men diagnosed 2007-2011 compared to men diagnosed 1997-2001 (hazard ratio=0·81; 95% CI 0·72-0·91, P = 0·0009) while the corresponding differences for women were not significant. Women were diagnosed with significantly thicker tumours during 2002-2006 and a tendency towards decreased survival was observed compared to those diagnosed earlier 1997-2001 and later 2007-2011.Conclusion: In Sweden, the CMMs of men are detected earlier over time and this seems to be followed by an improved CMM-specific survival for men. Women are still diagnosed with considerably thinner tumours and they experience a better survival than men.

  • Biological and distributional overview of the genus Eledonoprius (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae)mology : Rare fungus-feeding beetles of European old-growth forests
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Entomology. - 1210-5759 .- 1802-8829. ; 110:1, s. 173-176
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • All the information on the genus Eledonoprius was gathered to provide an up to-date overview of the geographical distribution and ecology of its species, and to assess their association with old-growth forests. Based on recent samples collected in deciduous forests and woodlands of Italy, the authors outline the habitats of these rare species and give an account of their trophic relations with bracket fungi. E. armatus is recorded in Central Italy and Sardinia for the first time; E. serrifrons is new to Basilicata (Southern Italy) and Syria.

  • Interstitial carbon in bcc HfNbTiVZr high-entropy alloy from first principles
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Materials. - : AMER PHYSICAL SOC. - 2475-9953. ; 4:12
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The remarkable mechanical properties of high-entropy alloys can be further improved by interstitial alloying. In this work we employ density functional theory calculations to study the solution energies of dilute carbon interstitial atoms in tetrahedral and octahedral sites in bcc HfNbTiVZr. Our results indicate that carbon interstitials in tetrahedral sites are unstable, and the preferred octahedral sites present a large spread in the energy of solution. The inclusion of carbon interstitials induces large structural relaxations with long-range effects. The effect of local chemical environment on the energy of solution is investigated by performing a local cluster expansion including studies of its correlation with the carbon atomic Voronoi volume. However, the spread in solution energetics cannot be explained with a local environment analysis only pointing towards a complex, long-range influence of interstitial carbon in this alloy.
