    • INTRODUCTION: Cerebral palsy (CP) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disabilities. Yet, most individuals with CP are adults. How individuals with CP fare in terms of health, quality of life (QoL), education, employment and income is largely unknown. Further, little is known about the effects of having a child with CP on the parents. The Nordic countries are known for their strong welfare systems, yet it is unknown to what extent the added burden related to disability is actually compensated for. We will explore how living with CP affects health, QoL, healthcare utilisation, education, labour market outcomes, socioeconomic status and mortality throughout the lifespan of individuals with CP and their parents. We will also investigate if these effects differ between subgroups, within and across the Nordic countries. METHODS AND ANALYSES: CP-North is a multidisciplinary 4-year (1 August 2017 to 31 July 2021) register research project. The research consortium comprises researchers and users from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Finland. Data from CP registries and follow-up programmes, or cohorts of individuals with CP, will be merged with general national registries. All individual studies are structured under three themes: medical outcomes, social and public health outcomes, and health economics. Both case-control and cohort designs will be included depending on the particular research question. Data will be analysed in the individual countries and later merged across nations.ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: The ethics approval processes in each individual country are followed. Findings will be published (open access) in international peer-reviewed journals in related fields. Updates on CP-North will be published online at http://rdi.arcada.fi/cpnorth/en/.

  • Pain and labor outcomes : A longitudinal study of adults with cerebral palsy in Sweden

    • Background: Pain is a global health concern with substantial societal costs and limits the activity participation of individuals. The prevalence of pain is estimated to be high among individuals with cerebral palsy (CP).Objectives: To estimate the association between pain and labor outcomes for adults with CP in Sweden.Methods: A longitudinal cohort study based on data from Swedish population-based administrative registers of 6899 individuals (53,657 person-years) with CP aged 20-64 years. Individual fixed effects regression models were used to analyze the association between pain and labor outcomes (employment and earnings from employment), as well as potential pathways through which pain might affect employment and earnings.Results: Pain was associated with adverse outcomes varying across severity, corresponding to a reduction of 7-12% in employment and 2-8% in earnings if employed. Pain might affect employment and earnings through increased likelihood of both sickness leave and early retirement.Conclusion: Pain management could potentially be important to improve labor outcomes for adults with CP, in addition to improving the quality of life.& COPY; 2023 The Author(s).     • Phosphine complexes of cobalt halide salts activated by diethylaluminum chloride are shown to yield highly active catalysts in the hydrovinylation of styrene, with unprecedented high selectivity to the desired product 3-phenyl-1-butene (3P1B). Double-bond isomerization, a common problem in codimerization reactions, only occurs after full conversion with these catalyst systems, even at elevated temperature. The most active catalysts are based on cobalt halide species combined with either C-1- or C-2-bridged diphosphines, heterodonor P,N or P,O ligands, flexible bidentate phosphine ligands or monodentate phosphine ligands. Kinetic investigations show an order > 1 in catalyst, which indicates either the involvement of dinuclear species in the catalytic cycle or partial catalyst decomposition via a bimolecular pathway.

    • Background We sought to develop a novel non-contrast multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) protocol employing several complementary techniques in a single scan session for a comprehensive functional and structural evaluation of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Methods In the cross-sectional part of this prospective observational study, 38 subjects ages 18-79 years with type 2 diabetes and DKD [estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) 15-60 mL/min/1.73 m(2)] and 20 age- and gender-matched healthy volunteers (HVs) underwent mpMRI. Repeat mpMRI was performed on 23 DKD subjects and 10 HVs. By measured GFR (mGFR), 2 DKD subjects had GFR stage G2, 16 stage G3 and 20 stage G4/G5. A wide range of MRI biomarkers associated with kidney haemodynamics, oxygenation and macro/microstructure were evaluated. Their optimal sensitivity, specificity and repeatability to differentiate diabetic versus healthy kidneys and categorize various stages of disease as well as their correlation with mGFR/albuminuria was assessed. Results Several MRI biomarkers differentiated diabetic from healthy kidneys and distinct GFR stages (G3 versus G4/G5); mean arterial flow (MAF) was the strongest predictor (sensitivity 0.94 and 1.0, specificity 1.00 and 0.69; P = .04 and .004, respectively). Parameters significantly correlating with mGFR were specific measures of kidney haemodynamics, oxygenation, microstructure and macrostructure, with MAF being the strongest univariate predictor (r = 0.92; P < .0001). Conclusions A comprehensive and repeatable non-contrast mpMRI protocol was developed that, as a single, non-invasive tool, allows functional and structural assessment of DKD, which has the potential to provide valuable insights into underlying pathophysiology, disease progression and analysis of efficacy/mode of action of therapeutic interventions in DKD.
