  • Modeling and experiments of acoustic trapping forces in a small glass capillary
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 20th International Conference on Miniaturized Systems for Chemistry and Life Sciences, MicroTAS 2016. - 9780979806490 ; , s. 711-712
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work we present theoretical modeling and additional experiments to characterize noncontact acoustic trapping in a small glass capillary. We provide numerical 3D-simulations that captures several key features of the experiment.

  • Towards a common ontology for business models
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: CEUR Workshop Proceedings.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To create an understanding of enterprises and the ways they do business, a starting point could be to identify the main actors and the values transferred between them. Business models are created in order to make clear who the business actors are in a business case and to make their relations explicit. The relations are formulated in terms of values exchanged between the actors. The purpose of the work reported in this paper is to create a better understanding of business models by identifying basic notions used in such models. It does so by constructing a common ontology based on three established business model ontologies: e3-value, REA, and BMO. By means of a careful analysis of these ontologies a conceptual schema is created that defines the common concepts. An example is worked out that explains how the common ontology should be understood.

  • A new Swedish textbook on Product Development and Design
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of NordDesign 2006. - Reykjavík : Faculty of Engineering, University of Iceland. - 997994949X ; , s. 317-332, s. 317-332
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Several textbooks on systematic product development and design methodology have been published during the nineties. This literature, in English, is to a large extent based on recent international design research. However, these textbooks are primarily of more abstract character, treating only the product development process and design methodology. In Scandinavia, there has been a lack of a modern textbook on Product Development and Design in a Scandinavian language, particularly for the shorter educational programs (bachelor level) in Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Design. Besides the product development process and design support methods, also industrial design and engineering design should be treated; materials selection and dimensioning, production methods, quality, robust design and tolerances, design of experiments, computer modelling and simulation, optimisation, visualisation and communication, creativity support, cost calculations, project planning/handling, intellectual property and patents. A new modern textbook in Swedish covering most topics related to product development and product realisation as listed above, written by the authors of this paper, was introduced in Sweden in 2005. This book was originally intended as a basic text for educational programs in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design Engineering on bachelor level, but it is now also used for educational programs on master level (civilingenjör). The focus has been on synthesis, but some chapters also cover analysis e.g. by means of computer modelling and simulation for concept evaluation. The intention has been to give a broad overview of the various topics in Engineering Design and Industrial Design. A comprehensive chapter on Design theory and methodology, based on recent design research in Sweden (in particular at Chalmers University of Technology) and in the Nordic countries has also been included. This chapter, covering fundamental issues like functional decomposition, function means tree, coupling analysis by DSM-matrices, requirements handling etc. will be of specific interest for master programs in Engineering design. So far, this book has been well accepted in Sweden. 769 books have been delivered, by April 2006. This paper presents a brief overview of the contents, as well as some feedback from its use in different types of engineering programs in Sweden.

  • Influence of hill-length on energy consumption for hybridized heavy transports in long-haul transports
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: 7th Commercial Vehicle Workshop Graz, 20160513, Graz.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Goods transports are big producers of CO2, i.e. consumers of energy. The conventional transport vehicles such as tractor-semitrailers can be replaced by long combination vehicles (LCVs). By doing so, fuel consumption will be reduced drastically, with up to 30%, mainly thanks to the reduced aerodynamic resistance per pay load mass and/or volume. Further reduction of CO2 improvements can be made by hybridization, if the road topography demands variable propulsion power due to up- and downhills. This gain is emphasized for heavier vehicles. So, hybridized LCVs are of special interest. When developing vehicles, or selecting vehicle for a certain transport, one needs to assume an operating cycle. To describe the operating cycle correctly is very important for this purpose. Traditionally, the magnitude of road grades is the only topography measure used to characterise the road. In this paper it is studied how an additional measure, hill length, influences these heavy hybridized LCVs. Together one can see these two measures as amplitude and wavelength. It is shown how energy saving varies for different types of roads (combinations of grade magnitude and hill-length) and different energy buffer sizes. Road topography is statistically generated for a good coverage of road types, but also examples of real roads are marked within these synthetic roads. The result can be combined with estimates of hybridization costs and conclusions can be drawn when it is beneficial to hybridize and with how large buffer. The main takeaways from the paper are that the potential energy savings for heavy LVCs due to hybridization are significant and that the hill-length is an important characteristic measure to include in operating cycle definitions.
