  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This booklet is a report for a case study visit during four day field trip, a group of nine PhD students and their supervisors – all part of the National Research School for Architecture and Planning in the Urban Landscape, APULA – set out to explore what may be considered the outback of Western Europe’s conurbations, the transnational region of Kiruna -Narvik.Both “remote” and “resourceful”, “threatened” and “thriving” (equally relative notions), this region seemed to offer possibilities to reflect upon many of the current tendencies influencing contemporary planning practice and research.

  • Association of periodontitis with persistent, pro-atherogenic antibody responses
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Journal of Clinical Periodontology. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 0303-6979 .- 1600-051X. ; 42:11, s. 1006-1014
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: To study antibody responses associated with molecular mimicry in periodontitis.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty-four periodontitis cases (mean age 54.0 years) and 44 controls (53.6 years) were examined, after which cases received periodontal treatment. Established immunoassays were used to analyse levels of antibodies against two pathogens, Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg), heat shock proteins (Hsp), Hsp60, Hsp65, and Hsp70, and epitopes of oxidized low density lipoprotein (oxLDL) (CuOx-LDL and MDA-LDL) in plasma samples that were collected at baseline, after 3 (n=48) and 6 (n=30) months.RESULTS: When age, sex, smoking habit, and the number of teeth were considered in multivariate logistic regressions, Aa and Pg IgG, Hsp65-IgA, CuOx-LDL-IgG and -IgM and MDA-LDL-IgG antibody levels were associated with periodontitis, whereas Hsp60-IgG2 antibody levels were inversely associated. The Aa antibody levels significantly correlated with the levels of IgA antibodies to Hsp65 and Hsp70, and both OxLDL IgA-antibody levels. The levels of antibodies to Pg correlated with IgG antibodies to Hsp60, Hsp70 and both oxLDL antibody epitopes. None of the antibody levels changed significantly after treatment.CONCLUSIONS: Periodontitis is associated with persistently high levels of circulating antibodies that are reactive with pathogen- and host-derived antigens.

  • The precision of fit of milled titanium implant frameworks (I-Bridge) in the edentulous jaw.
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Clinical implant dentistry and related research. - : Wiley. - 1708-8208 .- 1523-0899. ; 12:2, s. 81-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND: New computer numeric controlled (CNC)-milled frameworks for implant-supported prostheses have been introduced. However, no data are available on the precision of fit of these new frameworks. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the precision of fit of a new CNC-milled framework technique (I-Bridge, Biomain AB, Helsingborg, Sweden) using Brånemark System (Nobel Biocare AB, Göteborg, Sweden) and NobelReplace (Nobel Biocare AB) system implants. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten test frameworks were fabricated for one master model for each implant system. Five additional frameworks were fabricated for five different models simulating clinical cases as controls (Brånemark System). The distortion of implant center point positions was measured in x-, y-, and z-axes and in three dimensions by using a contact-type coordinate measuring machine and a computer program developed specifically for this purpose. Mann-Whitney U-test was used to compare differences of distortion within and between the groups. RESULTS: The maximal distortion in arch width (x-axis) and curvature (y-axis) was within 71 and 55 microm for all frameworks, respectively. The mean distortion in absolute figures in x-, y-, z-axes and three dimensions was for "clinical control" frameworks 23, 26, 4, and 34 microm as compared with less than 12, 12, 2, and 17 microm for Brånemark and NobelReplace frameworks, respectively. Control frameworks showed significantly (p < .05) greater mean and range of distortions in x- and y-axes and in three dimensions compared with test frameworks. CONCLUSION: All measured frameworks presented signs of misfit, indicating that no framework had a "passive fit." Frameworks produced in a more routine clinical environment seem to present greater levels of distortion as compared with frameworks produced in a strict test situation. However, all measured frameworks presented levels of precision of fit within limits considered to be clinically acceptable in earlier studies of frameworks placed on abutments.

  • A 15-yr longitudinal study of xerostomia in a Swedish population of 50-yr-old subjects
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: EUROPEAN JOURNAL OF ORAL SCIENCES. - : Wiley. - 0909-8836 .- 1600-0722. ; 117:1, s. 13-19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aim of this study was to determine the changes in prevalence of xerostomia in subjects from 50 to 65 yr of age. Questionnaires were sent to all subjects who were born in 1942 and were living in two Swedish counties in 1992, 1997, 2002, and 2007. The analyses focused on those who answered the questionnaires both in 1992 and in 2007. The response rate was 71.4% (n = 6,346) in 1992 and 73.1% (n = 6,078) in 2007. Of those who answered the questionnaire in 1992, 74.3% (n = 4,714) also responded in 2007. There was an almost linear increase in the prevalence of xerostomia at the four study time-points (i.e. when the subjects were 50, 55, 60, and 65 yr of age). Xerostomia was more prevalent at night than during the day. The pooled prevalence of night-time and daytime xerostomia was 6% at 50 yr of age and 15% at 65 yr of age, and it was higher in women than in men on both occasions. Logistic regression analyses showed that impaired health and smoking were significantly associated with daytime xerostomia but not with night-time xerostomia. Despite the increase in prevalence of xerostomia from 50 to 65 yr of age, there was considerable variation during the observation period. The incidence rate was 13% (507/4,015) and the disappearance rate was 42% (104/250) (dichotomized answers).

  • Dentists and eating disorders - knowledge, attitudes, management and experience
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Swedish Dental Journal. - : Swedish Dental Association. - 0347-9994. ; 33:1, s. 1-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The aims of the present study were to explore the level of knowledge and attitudes among dentists in relation to patients with eating disorders (ED) and evaluate the extent to which patients with ED are identified and/or treated in the dental setting. A postal questionnaire was constructed and sent to all dentists (n=367) in two Swedish counties during November 200S. The questionnaire comprised 29 questions or statements in the following categories: demographics, general knowledge of ED and its oral consequences, experience of and attitudes towards patients with ED and interaction within the health care system, for example, referrals and treatment options regarding this patient group. The response rate was 70% (n=258). Perceived knowledge about ED was most commonly obtained from media sources, namely newspapers, television, etc. Few dentists knew that there existed specialized referral units for ED patients in their county. The majority of dentists stated that they had seen only a few such patients during their practice. Even though the perceived level of general knowledge about ED among female dentists appeared to be better than among male dentists, they also found it more difficult to inform the patient/relatives about their suspicion of the condition. Female dentists referred to specialists significantly more frequently than did males. Eighty-six percent of responders reported that they needed more training in dental management of patients with ED. Knowledge and clinical experience of dentists as regards patients with ED were found to be low. The level of education in this area needs to be improved, which would have the potential to encourage dentists to become more involved in secondary and tertiary prevention and management of ED.

  • Eating disorders : knowledge, attitudes, management and clinical experience of Norwegian dentists
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: BMC Oral Health. - : BioMed Central (BMC). - 1472-6831. ; 15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate knowledge, attitudes and clinical experience with regard to patients with eating disorders (ED) among Norwegian dentists. Methods: In 2010, a questionnaire was sent to all dentists in Norway (N = 4282) comprising 33 questions related to demographics of the participating dentists, their knowledge of ED (general and oral health aspects), clinical experience, attitudes and perceived management preferences. Results: The participation rate was 40 % (47 % women and 53 % men). Their knowledge about ED was often retrieved from common media sources and the greater part of the participants reported they had seen very few patients with ED during their professional career. Female dentists reported superior knowledge about ED compared to males, but the former experienced greater difficulties to inform about the condition. Referrals of the patient to other health facilities were significantly more common among female compared to male dentists. The majority of dentists (76 %) reported a need of more education related to ED management. Conclusions: The Norwegian dentists in this study reported limited clinical experience and insufficient knowledge regarding ED. There is therefore a need to increase both undergraduate and continuing education in this field, which can improve preventive and management measures that a dentist can provide for ED patients.

  • A new improved distributed e-healthcare system based on open standards for depression treatment
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: ICICS '12 Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Information and Communication Systems. - New York, NY, USA : ACM Digital Library. - 9781450313278 ; , s. 1-6
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The use of open standards to promote responsible and available design in Internet-based healthcare systems is examined by using theoretical notations and recent research results from the literature. Moreover, empirical data will be gathered from a case study on an e-healthcare system for depression treatment. Our contribution is to initiate a discussion aiming at increasing the awareness on appropriate conceptual models for Internet-based depression treatment. Moreover, an up-to-date e-healthcare system, based on open standards and implemented with requirements of an Internet-based system treating patients suffering from depressions, is proposed.

  • Kroniska orofaciala smärtor i allmänpraktiken
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Tandläkartidningen. - : Tandläkarförbundet. - 0039-6982. ; 108:3, s. 78-83
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract

  • Improved osseointegration and interlocking capacity with dual acid treated implants: a rabbit study.
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Clinical Oral Implants Research. - : Wiley. - 0905-7161 .- 1600-0501. ; 27, s. 22-30
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Aim To investigate how osseointegration is affected by different nano- and microstructures. The hypothesis was that the surface structure created by dual acid treatment (AT-1), applied on a reduced topography, might achieve equivalent biomechanical performance as a rougher surface treated with hydrofluoric acid (HF). Materials and methods In a preclinical rabbit study, three groups (I, II, and III) comprised of test and control implants were inserted in 30 rabbits. The microstructures of the test implants were either produced by blasting with coarse (I) or fine (II) titanium particles or remained turned (III). All test implants were thereafter treated with AT-1 resulting in three different test surfaces. The microstructure of the control implants was produced by blasting with coarse titanium particles thereafter treated with HF. The surface topography was characterized by interferometry. Biomechanical (removal torque) and histomorphometric (bone–implant contact; bone area) performances were measured after 4 or 12 weeks of healing. Results Removal torque measurement demonstrated that test implants in group I had an enhanced biomechanical performance compared to that of the control despite similar surface roughness value (Sa). At 4 weeks of healing, group II test implants showed equivalent biomechanical performance to that of the control, despite a decreased Sa value. Group III test implants showed decreased biomechanical performance to that of the control. Conclusions: The results of the present study suggest that nano- and microstructure alteration by AT-1 on a blasted implant might enhance the initial biomechanical performance, while for longer healing time, the surface interlocking capacity seems to be more important.
