- The conference Codex and Code: Aesthetics, Language and Politics in an Age of Digital Media (NorLit 2009)was held at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, August 6–9, 2009. The conference was organized by the Nordic Association for Comparative Literature (NorLit); the Department of Culture and Communication, Linköping University; the School of Computer Science and Communication, Royal Institute of Technology (KTH); the Department of Comparative Literature, Stockholm University; the Department of Culture and Communication, Södertörn University College; and the Department of Comparative Literature, Uppsala University. The aim of the conference was to develop the study of Comparative Literature through Nordic collaboration both in its own discipline and in Modern Language and Cultural studies. As the title for the conference suggests, the principal question for the conference was the challenge that the study of literature encounters in an age of digitalization and globalization. It was our aim to encourage discussion of how literary studies respond to the ongoing changes in media and technology, politics and economy. Many have argued that the Humanities currently are in a state of crisis. We believe that the discipline seldom has found itself in such an interesting and fruitful historical moment. Several of these questions have surfaced during earlier media system changes, in particular during Romanticism and Modernism, which provided the conference with an historical frame. The conference Codex and Code also addressed questions of authenticity and originality, identity and gender, literary genres and reading practices, media and materiality, culture and popular culture, language and history, world literature, work aesthetics, translations, and canon formation. The conference Codex and Code wanted to stimulate interdisciplinary scholarly research of the literary in a broad sense. The conference was open to scholars in Comparative Literature and in Classical and Modern Languages, Aesthetics, Media and Communication studies, Film and Theatre studies, Philosophy and adjacent disciplines. The conference was organized around a number of thematic sessions in which researchers and scholars presented and discussed papers. The conference has received generous financial support from the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, Magnus Bergwall foundation, Granholms foundation, Linköping University, School of Computer Science and Communication, Royal Institute of Technology, Svenska litteratursällskapet; the Swedish Academy, Swedish Science Council, and Vitterhetsakademien.

Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans : Gram-Negative Bacterial Pathogen

- Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, a member of the Gram-negative taxonomic family Pasteurellaceae, has attracted considerable attention as a potentially important pathogen in specific forms of periodontal disease and has earned a reputation as a member of the HACEK group of bacteria associated with some cases of infective endocarditis. The bacterium has acquired an impressive virulence-related armamentarium, including two well-characterized cytotoxins, exoenzymes, adhesins, and signaling molecules that promote its colonization and the perturbation of the tissues, structural cells, and inflammatory cells of the human oral cavity. This Special Issue focuses on the properties and activities of A. actinomycetemcomitans that promote its function as an infectious agent, that is, its ability to target specific host populations and define its interactions with specific mucosal tissues and cells. The objective is to present a complete picture of the participation of this bacterium in disease by presenting both in vitro and in vivo experimental and clinical studies. A comprehensive view of the contribution of this bacterium to the mechanisms of infection and disease should also provide a basis for the development of new control strategies that move beyond the classical antibiotics.

- Distributed Decision Making and Control is a mathematical treatment of relevant problems in distributed control, decision and multi-agent systems, The research reported was prompted by the recent rapid development in large-scale networked and embedded systems and communications. One of the main reasons for the growing complexity in such systems is the dynamics introduced by computation and communication delays. Reliability, predictability, and efficient utilization of processing power and network resources are central issues and the new theory and design methods presented here are needed to analyze and optimize the complex interactions that arise between controllers, plants and networks. The text also helps to meet requirements arising from industrial practice for a more systematic approach to the design of distributed control structures and corresponding information interfaces Theory for coordination of many different control units is closely related to economics and game theory network uses being dictated by congestion-based pricing of a given pathway. The text extends existing methods which represent pricing mechanisms as Lagrange multipliers to distributed optimization in a dynamic setting. In Distributed Decision Making and Control, the main theme is distributed decision making and control with contributions to a general theory and methodology for control of complex engineering systems in engineering, economics and logistics. This includes scalable methods and tools for modeling, analysis and control synthesis, as well as reliable implementations using networked embedded systems. Academic researchers and graduate students in control science, system theory, and mathematical economics and logistics will find mcu to interest them in this collection, first presented orally by the contributors during a sequence of workshops organized in Spring 2010 by the Lund Center for Control of Complex Engineering Systems, a Linnaeus Center at Lund University, Sweden.

- Att det har gått över åttio år sedan Aksel Sandemose formulerade Jantelagen hindrar inte att den fortfarande är ett gångbart namn på kollektivismens avigsidor: den svenska avundsjukan, småsintheten, det dåliga självförtroendet och så vidare. I denna antologi vrider och vänder åtta forskare på vårt förhållande till denna "lag". Utifrån litteraturvetenskapliga, filosofiska, medievetenskapliga och etnologiska perspektiv diskuterar de huruvida de återkommande hänvisningarna till Jantelagen i själva verket säger mer om den individualism som utger sig för att vara lagens motsats än om lagen själv. Finns det rent av något i Jantelagen att bejaka i en tid när den liberala individualismen alltmer framstår som en återvändsgränd och subjektets autonomi blir alltmer diffus?
