  • Energy Input Effect on Morphology and Microstructure of Selective Laser Melting Single Track from Metallic Powder
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Processing Technology. - : Elsevier. - 0924-0136 .- 1873-4774. ; 213:4, s. 606-613
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Process parameters of selective laser melting affect the response of a powder–substrate system and, therefore, the geometry and microstructure of the manufactured parts. The experiments were carried out at fixed values of laser power (50 W), spot diameter (70 μm) and powder layer thickness (80 μm). In this research, influence of the energy input parameters (80–900 °C preheating temperature and 0.08–0.28 m/s laser scanning speed) on microstructure and geometry of single tracks fabricated of stainless steel grade 316L powder was analysed. Both factors were found statistically significant with regard to their influence on the remelted depth and the primary cell spacing in the colonies observed in the tracks cross-sections. More specifically, the contact angle and track height were controlled by the preheating temperature, and track width and contact zone characteristics were governed by the laser scanning speed. Because of the threshold behaviour of these two factors, values starting with 700 °C and 0.24 m/s were found not optimal and causing instability and balling effect. Conclusions regarding the selection of process parameters for the formation of tracks with the desired geometry and microstructure were formulated based on statistical analysis of the experimental data.

  • Lattice Dynamics and Superconductivity in Cerium at High Pressure
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - : American Physical Society. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 108:4, s. 045502-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have measured phonon dispersion relations of the high-pressure phase cerium-oC(4) (alpha phase with the alpha-uranium crystal structure) at 6.5 GPa by using inelastic x-ray scattering. Pronounced phonon anomalies are observed, which are remarkably similar to those of alpha-U. First-principles electronic structure calculations reproduce the anomalies and allow us to identify strong electron-phonon coupling as their origin. At the low-pressure end of its stability range, Ce-oC4 is on the verge of a lattice-dynamical instability and possibly a charge density wave. The superconducting transition temperatures of the fcc, oC4, and mC4 phases of Ce have been calculated, and the superconductivity observed experimentally by Wittig and Probst is attributed to the oC4 phase.

  • Oncological outcomes of standard versus prolonged time to surgery after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for oesophageal cancer in the multicentre, randomised, controlled NeoRes II trial
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Annals of Oncology. - : Elsevier. - 0923-7534 .- 1569-8041. ; 34:11, s. 1015-1024
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The optimal time to surgery (TTS) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) for oesophageal cancer is unknown and has traditionally been 4-6 weeks in clinical practice. Observational studies have suggested better outcomes, especially in terms of histological response, after prolonged delay of up to 3 months after nCRT. The NeoRes II trial is the first randomised trial to compare standard to prolonged TTS after nCRT for oesophageal cancer.Patients and methods: Patients with resectable, locally advanced oesophageal cancer were randomly assigned to standard delay of surgery of 4-6 weeks or prolonged delay of 10-12 weeks after nCRT. The primary endpoint was complete histological response of the primary tumour in patients with adenocarcinoma (AC). Secondary endpoints included histological tumour response, resection margins, overall and progression-free survival in all patients and stratified by histologic type. Results: Between February 2015 and March 2019, 249 patients from 10 participating centres in Sweden, Norway and Germany were randomised: 125 to standard and 124 to prolonged TTS. There was no significant difference in complete histological response between AC patients allocated to standard (21%) compared to prolonged (26%) TTS (P = 0.429). Tumour regression, resection margins and number of resected lymph nodes, total and metastatic, did not differ between the allocated interventions. The first quartile overall survival in patients allocated to standard TTS was 26.5 months compared to 14.2 months after prolonged TTS (P = 0.003) and the overall risk of death during follow-up was 35% higher after prolonged delay (hazard ratio 1.35, 95% confidence interval 0.94-1.95, P = 0.107).Conclusion: Prolonged TTS did not improve histological complete response or other pathological endpoints, while there was a strong trend towards worse survival, suggesting caution in routinely delaying surgery for >6 weeks after nCRT.

  • Control of epitaxial graphene thickness on 4H-SiC(0001) and bufferlayer removal through hydrogen intercalation
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Materials Science Forum (Volumes 717 - 720). - : Trans Tech Publications Inc.. ; , s. 605-608
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report graphene thickness, uniformity and surface morphology dependence on thegrowth temperature and local variations in the off-cut of Si-face 4H-SiC on-axis substrates. Thetransformation of the buffer layer through hydrogen intercalation and the subsequent influence onthe charge carrier mobility are also studied. A hot-wall CVD reactor was used for in-situ etching, graphene growth in vacuum and the hydrogen intercalation process. The number of graphene layersis found to be dependent on the growth temperature while the surface morphology also depends onthe local off-cut of the substrate and results in a non-homogeneous surface. Additionally, the influence of dislocations on surface morphology and graphene thickness uniformity is also presented.

  • Optical properties of 4H-SiC
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 91:4, s. 2099-2103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The optical band gap energy and the dielectric functions of n-type 4H-SiC have been investigated experimentally by transmission spectroscopy and spectroscopic ellipsometry and theoretically by an ab initio full-potential linear muffin-tin-orbital method. We present the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric functions, resolved into the transverse and longitudinal photon moment a, and we show that the anisotropy is small in 4H-SiC. The measurements and the calculations fall closely together in a wide range of energies.

  • Work-related stress assessed by a text message single-item stress question
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Occupational Medicine. - : OXFORD UNIV PRESS. - 0962-7480 .- 1471-8405. ; 67:8, s. 601-608
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background Given the prevalence of work stress-related ill-health in the Western world, it is important to find cost-effective, easy-to-use and valid measures which can be used both in research and in practice. Aims To examine the validity and reliability of the single-item stress question (SISQ), distributed weekly by short message service (SMS) and used for measurement of work-related stress. Methods The convergent validity was assessed through associations between the SISQ and subscales of the Job Demand-Control-Support model, the Effort-Reward Imbalance model and scales measuring depression, exhaustion and sleep. The predictive validity was assessed using SISQ data collected through SMS. The reliability was analysed by the test-retest procedure. Results Correlations between the SISQ and all the subscales except for job strain and esteem reward were significant, ranging from -0.186 to 0.627. The SISQ could also predict sick leave, depression and exhaustion at 12-month follow-up. The analysis on reliability revealed a satisfactory stability with a weighted kappa between 0.804 and 0.868. Conclusions The SISQ, administered through SMS, can be used for the screening of stress levels in a working population.
