- Long-term diseases are today the leading cause of mortality worldwide and are estimated to be the leading cause of disability by 2020. Person-centered care (PCC) has been shown to advance concordance between care provider and patient on treatment plans, improve health outcomes and increase patient satisfaction. Yet, despite these and other documented benefits, there are a variety of significant challenges to putting PCC into clinical practice. Although care providers today broadly acknowledge PCC to be an important part of care, in our experience we must establish routines that initiate, integrate, and safeguard PCC in daily clinical practice to ensure that PCC is systematically and consistently practiced, i.e. not just when we feel we have time for it. In this paper, we propose a few simple routines to facilitate and safeguard the transition to PCC. We believe that if conscientiously and systematically applied, they will help to make PCC the focus and mainstay of care in long-term illness.

- Artikeln redovisar resultatet från en delstudie av en treårig variationsteoretiskt forskningsprojekt, som syftat till att undersöka dels ekonomstudenternas kvalitativt skilda sätt att uppfatta kritiska aspekter av ett grundläggande ekonomiskt begrepp, ”räntabilitet”, och dels undersöka förändringen av kvaliteten på urskiljda kritiska aspekter. Av speciellt intresse i denna studie har varit de svårigheter studenter i ekonomisk grundutbildning ställts inför, när de löst problem där räntabilitet utgjort ett viktigt begrepp. Ett urval av studenter, ur antagningsgruppen hösten 2000, har följts under den treåriga ekonom¬utbildningen. Vid tre intervjutillfällen, ett per år, har studenterna i de två första intervjuerna fått redovisa två egna problemlösningar som de gjort i samband med skriftliga examinationer. Under tredje intervjun har de fått lösa ett specialkonstruerat ekonomiskt problem. Analysen av sammanlagt 27 intervjuer, resulterade i tre beskrivningskategorier, där olika kritiska aspekter av begreppet fokuseras i respektive kategori. Studenternas kvalitativt skilda uppfattningar av begreppets innebörd varierade liksom deras individuella mönster av förståelse och kunskapsutveckling under grundutbild-ning¬en. Implikationer av resultaten för forskning om lärande, utbildning och undervisning i ämnet redovisning diskuteras och förslag ges på fortsatt forskning.

- In Sweden, as in many other Western countries, public health care is challenged by increasing demands for care and continuing budget deficits. Person-centred care (PCC) has been introduced as a new strategy to ameliorate the perceived fragmentation in care and is expected to decrease treatment time, reduce the need for return visits, as well as increase patient satisfaction. However, the changing clinical practices necessary for the PCC approach are assumed to require new accountability practices. This article is primarily an attempt to provide a conceptual analysis of ethical accountability, i.e. a type of accountability that takes into account the human relational responsibility, partial incoherence, and power of reflection. On the grounds of this characterisation, the article aims to provide a basis, among other things, for a discussion of the possibilities of identifying and empirically studying the multimodal expressions in communication that are relevant for this type of accountability. After an initial discussion of the debate on the limits of viewing accountability as transparency, we then turn to our methodological approach and introduce a conceptual analysis of accountability. Next, we discuss some additional features of accountability. Finally, we discuss the possibilities of empirically studying the institutionalisation of ethically informed accountability within person-centred health care.

Accounting Research and Trust - A Literature Review

- Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide a structured overview of literature in the nexus of trust and accounting. This can serve as a basis for future research, and thus provide a framework for asking more precise and focused research questions. Design/methodology/approach – All papers published in prominent accounting journals during a 15-year period were examined. Papers pertaining to the field of trust and accounting were categorized and analyzed in more detail, and qualitatively classified in accordance with selected dimensions. The review focused on papers explicitly exploring the link between accounting and trust. Findings – A large proportion of the papers is in the field of management accounting (MAN). The majority of published papers in the field are based on sociological theory, but there are some economics-based papers. Sociologically based analysis seems to provide more structure, but is also less paradigmatic in nature than economic theory. Only a small number of papers have an explicit definition of the concept of trust. The authors’ conclusion is that the state of research has been developing to become more paradigmatic in recent years. Originality/value – This is the only literature review that provides a comprehensive overview of research on trust and accounting. Thus, it is an aid to future research in the area.
