  • Experiences in Running a Professional Course on Digitally-Enabled Production in Collaboration Between Three Swedish Universities
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Advances in Transdisciplinary Engineering, Volume 21. - : IOS Press. - 9781614994398 ; , s. 653-664
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Needs for new competences and knowledge arise as industry 4.0 evolves in increasingly digitalized production. This development entails that job transformations and future skills need attention from the perspective of industry 5.0, where human and machine find ways of working together to improve production performance. Facing this perspective, one challenge is a growing need for novel lifelong learning initiatives, to meet emerging and altering occupations for the fulfilment of future skill requirements. This challenge is addressed here by portraying a case where three Swedish universities have formed a distinctive collaboration to develop a flexible (i.e. blended) course for professionals, in the subject of Digitally-enabled production. The purpose is to develop a sustainable collaboration between the universities and create a course format on master level addressing lifelong learning for the increasingly digitalized production. The ambition is to increase the impact of the universities respective efforts by sharing resources and utilizing individual specialized expertise to develop a practical and relevant course that can reach a larger target group. The course encompasses industry 4.0 readiness on three levels of production systems; plant-, production cell-, and component level; to adopt a holistic view of digitalization in production. We followed an action research approach for continuously collecting and documenting our experiences during the course development, implementation, and dissemination of the course. Within the frame of action research, an explorative case study describes and analyzes the initiative. The results highlight challenges and opportunities for succeeding with this form of co-produced course. The joint course gives professionals possibilities to work on cases from their own companies with expert supervision from three manufacturing levels to address complex challenges in industry 4.0 implementation. To conclude, the importance of lifelong learning in relation to the human-centric approach of industry 5.0 is emphasized as a future direction.

  • Disrupting the research process
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: LUT Scientific and Expertise Publications. - 9789523354661
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • As the research process, i.e. how researchers conduct research, may be disrupted by Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based tools, this research in progress stresses the need for research on the future role of researchers. Prior research on AI-based tools used in the research process, focuses primarily on technological development related to, for example, language recognition, text extraction, and paper summaries. Recently, scientific texts are generated by AI. In this research in progress, four sub-areas of interest are identified: Black-box dilemma. What part or parts of the research process, if any, can trustfully be replaced by AI-based tools? Quality. What is required for AI-based tools to become an integrated part of the research process? Benefits/limitations. What are the potential benefits and limitations with AI-based tools as an integrated part of the research process? Progress in use: What is the progress of the use and development of AI-based tools for research? Research design, potential contribution, and practical implications of this research are discussed.

  • Disrupting the Research Process through Artificial Intelligence: Towards a Research Agenda
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Artificial Intelligence and Innovation Management. - : World Scientific. - 9781800611320 ; , s. 161-183
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This chapter explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) will potentially disrupt how Innovation Management (IM) research will be conducted. In the recent decades, the research process has remained virtually unchanged, i.e., a structured, stepwise process. Recently, AI has shown new opportunities that affect this process. AI applications have been developed supporting researchers for specific tasks to ease their work, for example, database searching, transcribing and data management. For example, an autonomous literature review (i.e., database search, selection, analyzing, concluding, and writing) has been conducted by AI, vastly exceeding what human research could achieve in the same time frame, which paves the way for interesting reflections on how AI applications affect research from here on going forward. As we have explored AI techniques and AI applications and discussed their potential for conducting research, three themes emerged regarding how future research might be conducted: simplification thorough the use of computational power, augmentation of a researcher’s capabilities, and replacement by automation: Three critical questions are identified: (1) The future use of AI applications in research; (2) Exploring the trust in AI — The black box dilemma, and; (3) Benefits and limitations of AI applications. These topics are discussed, paving a way towards a research agenda.

  • Why innovation pedagogics matter – A case study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Event Proceedings. - 9789523356948
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, the ISO guidance standard “Innovation management - Innovation management system” - ISO56002:2019 (ISO56002) has gained a lot of interest within the innovation management community. Recent research calls for an increased understanding of what innovation pedagogics are needed to support innovation management consultants and advisors (innovation advisors) in their work supporting its clients in the ISO56002 and the relevance of ISO56002’s content for small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). In this study, building on an existing tool for measuring innovation maturity, the Innovation Management Capability Assessment and Reflection tool (IMCAR) was developed to also include a reflective part of the ISO56002 content’s relevance for the responding organisation. Using the IMCAR tool, this study indicates that the ISO56002 is relevant for both SMEs and innovation advisors but also the need for further development of innovation pedagogics related to vocabulary, knowledge, facilitated reflections, and visualisation tools. Limitations and further research avenues are discussed.

  • Status incongruence in human service occupations and implications for mild-to-severe depressive symptoms and register-based sickness absence : A prospective cohort study
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health. - Helsinki : Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health. - 0355-3140 .- 1795-990X. ; 46:2, s. 209-217
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective This study aimed to investigate the hypothesis that negative status incongruence may contribute to explain higher risk of mental ill-health and sickness absence in human service occupations (HSO).Methods Participants from the Swedish Longitudinal Occupational Survey of Health who responded to questionnaires in both 2014 and 2016 (N=11 814; 42% men, 58% women) were included. Status incongruence between register-based educational level and subjective social status was assessed. The association between employment in a HSO and status incongruence was estimated in linear regression analyses adjusted for age, income, work hours, sickness absence, childcare, and job qualification match. The prospective associations between status incongruence and mild-to-severe depressive symptoms and register-based sickness absence >= 31 days respectively were estimated with logistic regression analyses in models adjusted for age and outcomes at baseline. All analyses were stratified by gender. Results Employment in a HSO was associated with more negative status incongruence in both genders [standardized coefficient men 0.04, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.02-0.07; women 0.06, 95% CI 0.04-0.09]. More negative status incongruence was furthermore associated with higher odds of mild-to-severe depressive symptoms (men OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.08-1.29; women OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.09-1.26) and sickness absence >= 31 days (men OR 1.40, 95% CI 1.23-1.59; women OR 1.17, 95% CI 1.07-1.28) two years later. Conclusion Status incongruence is somewhat higher among HSO than other occupations and associated with increased odds of depressive symptoms and sickness absence.

  • Does validation and alliance during the multimodal investigation affect patients' acceptance of chronic pain? : An experimental single case study
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Pain. - : Walter de Gruyter. - 1877-8860 .- 1877-8879. ; 19:1, s. 73-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background and aims: Among chronic pain patients who are referred to participation in a multimodal rehabilitation program (MMRP), pain catastrophizing and dysfunctional pain coping is common. In many cases it may have driven the patient to a range of unsuccessful searches for biomedical explanations and pain relief. Often these efforts have left patients feeling disappointed, hopeless and misunderstood. The MMRP process can be preceded by a multimodal investigation (MMI) where an important effort is to validate the patient to create a good alliance and begin a process of change towards acceptance of the pain. However, whether the MMI has such therapeutic effect is unclear. Using a repeated single case experimental design, the purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of MMI by studying changes in patients' experience of validation, alliance, acceptance of pain, coping, catastrophizing, and depression before and during the MMI process. Methods: Participants were six chronic pain patients with high levels of pain catastrophizing (>25 on the Pain Catastrophizing Scale) and risk for long term disability (>105 on the Örebro Musculoskeletal Pain Screening Questionnaire) who were subjected to MMI before planned MMRP. For each patient, weekly self-report measures of validation, alliance and acceptance of pain were obtained during a 5-10-weeks baseline, before the MMI started. Subsequently, these measures were also obtained during a 6-8 weeks MMI process in order to enable comparative analyses. Additionally, pain coping, depression and pain catastrophizing were measured using standardized questionnaires before and after the MMI.Results: Irrespective of experiences of validation and alliance before MMI, all six patients felt validated and experienced a good alliance during MMI. Acceptance of pain improved only in one patient during MMI. None of the patients showed clinically relevant improvement in pain coping, depression or catastrophizing after the MMI.Conclusions: The patients did not change their acceptance and pain coping strategies despite of good alliance and experience of validation during the MMI process. Even if the design of this study precludes generalization to chronic pain patients in general, the results suggest that MMI may not have a therapeutic effect.

  • Psychometric evaluation of “The 25-item Sex after MI Knowledge Test” in a Swedish context
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian Journal of Caring Sciences. - Malden, USA : Wiley. - 0283-9318 .- 1471-6712. ; 26:1, s. 203-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The patients’ sexual life after a myocardial infarction is important for his/her quality of life. In spite of this, many patients are in doubt regarding their sex life after a myocardial infarction (MI) and the sexual information received, and counselling from health care providers has been seen to be insufficient. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of ‘The 25-item Sex after MI Knowledge Test’ in a Swedish context. A convenience sample was recruited. The scale was translated into Swedish and completed by 79 former patients from The Heart and Lung Patients’ National Association on two occasions, with an interval of 2 weeks. The scale was tested for face and content validity, internal consistency and test–retest reliability. The result in this study indicates that the instrument has good face and content validity and displayed a moderate internal consistency (alpha 0.61). The instrument showed some level of instability in test–retest reliability with 60% of the items presenting moderate or strong agreement between the test and retest. Further studies that use this instrument in larger and more diverse samples are thus needed.
