  • The Qualitative Transparency Deliberations : Insights and Implications
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Perspectives on Politics. - 1537-5927 .- 1541-0986. ; 19:1, s. 171-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In recent years, a variety of efforts have been made in political science to enable, encourage, or require scholars to be more open and explicit about the bases of their empirical claims and, in turn, make those claims more readily evaluable by others. While qualitative scholars have long taken an interest in making their research open, reflexive, and systematic, the recent push for overarching transparency norms and requirements has provoked serious concern within qualitative research communities and raised fundamental questions about the meaning, value, costs, and intellectual relevance of transparency for qualitative inquiry. In this Perspectives Reflection, we crystallize the central findings of a three-year deliberative process-the Qualitative Transparency Deliberations (QTD)-involving hundreds of political scientists in a broad discussion of these issues. Following an overview of the process and the key insights that emerged, we present summaries of the QTD Working Groups' final reports. Drawing on a series of public, online conversations that unfolded at www.qualtd.net, the reports unpack transparency's promise, practicalities, risks, and limitations in relation to different qualitative methodologies, forms of evidence, and research contexts. Taken as a whole, these reports-the full versions of which can be found in the Supplementary Materials-offer practical guidance to scholars designing and implementing qualitative research, and to editors, reviewers, and funders seeking to develop criteria of evaluation that are appropriate-as understood by relevant research communities-to the forms of inquiry being assessed. We dedicate this Reflection to the memory of our coauthor and QTD working group leader Kendra Koivu.(1)

  • Validation of the Super-Brief Pathological Narcissism Inventory (SB-PNI) among Swedish adolescents
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Current Psychology. - : Springer Nature. - 1046-1310 .- 1936-4733. ; 43, s. 19457-19467
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study examines the psychometric structure and properties of the Swedish version of the Super-Brief Pathological Narcissism Inventory (SB-PNI) among adolescents. In order to ensure the validity and feasibility of the measure, we examined the factor structure, measurement invariance across gender, age and ethnicity, and construct validity in relation to a number of correlates of narcissism in adolescence. Data were drawn from a large cross-sectional survey conducted in 35 schools in southern Sweden. The sample consisted of N = 5313 adolescents (Mage = 16.10 SD = 1.55) with 52.2% girls, 45.9% boys and 1.8% adolescents with unspecified gender, from compulsory and upper secondary schools in southern Sweden. The results showed that the measure holds a two-factor structure, suggesting the use of the subscales grandiosity and vulnerability separately, rather than as a unidimensional measure. The correlated factors grandiosity and vulnerability yielded full configural and metric invariance across gender, age, and ethnicity. Both grandiosity and vulnerability were correlated with externalizing and internalizing symptoms, as well as with low self-esteem. The study provides evidence for the utility of the SB-PNI among Swedish adolescents and indicates that the measure can be used across male and female adolescents of different ages and ethnic groups.

  • Communicating Care : The Contradictions of HPV Vaccination Campaigns
  • 2016

  • Atypical Development of Attentional Control Associates with Later Adaptive Functioning, Autism and ADHD Traits
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Journal of autism and developmental disorders. - : Springer Nature. - 0162-3257 .- 1573-3432. ; 50:11, s. 4085-4105
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Autism is frequently associated with difficulties with top-down attentional control, which impact on individuals’ mental health and quality of life. The developmental processes involved in these attentional difficulties are not well understood. Using a data-driven approach, 2 samples (N = 294 and 412) of infants at elevated and typical likelihood of autism were grouped according to profiles of parent report of attention at 10, 15 and 25 months. In contrast to the normative profile of increases in attentional control scores between infancy and toddlerhood, a minority (7–9%) showed plateauing attentional control scores between 10 and 25 months. Consistent with pre-registered hypotheses, plateaued growth of attentional control was associated with elevated autism and ADHD traits, and lower adaptive functioning at age 3 years.

  • Distilling the role of ecosystem services in the Sustainable Development Goals
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Ecosystem Services. - : Elsevier BV. - 2212-0416. ; 29, s. 70-82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Achieving well-being for all, while protecting the environment, is one of the most pressing global challenges of our time, and a central idea in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We believe that integrating ecosystem services, the benefits nature provides to people, into strategies for meeting the SDGs can help achieve this. Many development goals are likely underpinned by the delivery of one or more ecosystem services. Understanding how these services could support multiple development targets will be essential for planning synergistic and cost-effective interventions. Here we present the results of an expert survey on the contributions of 16 ecosystem services to achieving SDG targets linked to environment and human well-being, and review the capacity of modelling tools to evaluate SDG-relevant ecosystem services interactions. Survey respondents judged that individual ecosystem services could make important contributions to achieving 41 targets across 12 SDGs. The provision of food and water, habitat & biodiversity maintenance, and carbon storage & sequestration were perceived to each make contributions to > 14 SDG targets, suggesting cross-target interactions are likely, and may present opportunities for synergistic outcomes across multiple SDGs. Existing modelling tools are well-aligned to support SDG-relevant ecosystem service planning. Together, this work identifies entry points and tools to further analyze the role of ecosystem services to support the SDGs.

  • Dödlig överdos skedde ofta utan person nära som kunde ingripa : Kunskap om närvaron av vittnen är betydelsefull för hur naloxonprogram bör utformas
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Läkartidningen. - : Läkartidningen Förlag AB. - 0023-7205 .- 1652-7518. ; 119:4-5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fatal opioid overdoses usually occur without anyone being present and able to intervene. Knowledge of the presence of witnesses is important for how naloxone programs should be designedDrug mortality has increased in Sweden during the 2000s. The vast majority of deaths are opioid overdoses. The National Board of Health and Welfare recommends that the antidote naloxone and a brief overdose education should be offered to people who are at risk of opioid overdose. A retrospective registry study of 193 forensically examined fatal opioid overdoses in Skåne showed that over 80 percent occurred in private residences, most often the deceased’s own home. Other people were present in just over 40 percent of the 193 deaths, but usually in another room or asleep. In most cases, the witnesses were friends, partners, parents, or other people close to the deceased. Naloxone programs should be expanded to include family members and other persons who are close to opioid users, and who therefore may witness or be present early in case of an overdose.

  • Feminist Approaches to Using Other People’s Words : Two Examples
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: SAGE Research Methods Cases Part 2. - 1 Oliver's Yard, 55 City Road, London EC1Y 1SP United Kingdom  : Sage Publications. - 9781526443236
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This research methods case discusses how we use other people’s words—often collected through interviews—when informed by feminist methodology and theory. It presents different approaches to interview material (narrative analysis, discourse analysis, and conversation analysis) and considers how these epistemological approaches create “facts” (often called ontology) from “data.” We end by discussing how our use of interview material created different knowledge through the concept of onto-epistemology. We hope students will be left with an understanding of how one’s own positionality always affects what one sees in material. Using feminist methods and theories (and hoping students see the difficulties in drawing a strong distinction between methods and theories), we problematize a positivist understanding of qualitative research.

  • Imagery-enhanced v. verbally-based group cognitive behavior therapy for social anxiety disorder : a randomized clinical trial
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Psychological Medicine. - : Cambridge University Press. - 0033-2917 .- 1469-8978. ; 52:7, s. 1277-1286
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BackgroundCognitive behavior therapy (CBT) is effective for most patients with a social anxiety disorder (SAD) but a substantial proportion fails to remit. Experimental and clinical research suggests that enhancing CBT using imagery-based techniques could improve outcomes. It was hypothesized that imagery-enhanced CBT (IE-CBT) would be superior to verbally-based CBT (VB-CBT) on pre-registered outcomes.MethodsA randomized controlled trial of IE-CBT v. VB-CBT for social anxiety was completed in a community mental health clinic setting. Participants were randomized to IE (n = 53) or VB (n = 54) CBT, with 1-month (primary end point) and 6-month follow-up assessments. Participants completed 12, 2-hour, weekly sessions of IE-CBT or VB-CBT plus 1-month follow-up.ResultsIntention to treat analyses showed very large within-treatment effect sizes on the social interaction anxiety at all time points (ds = 2.09-2.62), with no between-treatment differences on this outcome or clinician-rated severity [1-month OR = 1.45 (0.45, 4.62), p = 0.53; 6-month OR = 1.31 (0.42, 4.08), p = 0.65], SAD remission (1-month: IE = 61.04%, VB = 55.09%, p = 0.59); 6-month: IE = 58.73%, VB = 61.89%, p = 0.77), or secondary outcomes. Three adverse events were noted (substance abuse, n = 1 in IE-CBT; temporary increase in suicide risk, n = 1 in each condition, with one being withdrawn at 1-month follow-up).ConclusionsGroup IE-CBT and VB-CBT were safe and there were no significant differences in outcomes. Both treatments were associated with very large within-group effect sizes and the majority of patients remitted following treatment.

  • Impacts of imagery-enhanced versus verbally-based cognitive behavioral group therapy on psychophysiological parameters in social anxiety disorder : Results from a randomized-controlled trial
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Behaviour Research and Therapy. - : Elsevier. - 0005-7967 .- 1873-622X. ; 155
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is associated with marked physiological reactivity in social-evaluative situations. However, objective measurement of biomarkers is rarely evaluated in treatment trials, despite potential utility in clarifying disorder-specific physiological correlates. This randomized controlled trial sought to examine the differential impact of imagery-enhanced vs. verbal-based cognitive behavioral group therapy (IE-CBGT, n = 53; VB-CBGT, n = 54) on biomarkers of emotion regulation and arousal during social stress in people with SAD (pre and post-treatment differences in heart rate variability (HRV) and skin conductance). We acquired psycho physiological data from randomized participants across four social stress test phases (baseline, speech preparation, speech, interaction) at pre-treatment, and 1-and 6-months post-treatment. Analyses revealed that IECBGT selectively attenuated heart rate as indexed by increases in median heart rate interval (median-RR) compared to VB-CBGT at post-treatment, whereas one HRV index showed a larger increase in the VB-CBGT condition before but not after controlling for median-RR. Other psychophysiological indices did not differ between conditions. Lower sympathetic arousal in the IE-CBGT condition may have obviated the need for parasympathetic downregulation, whereas the opposite was true for VB-CBGT. These findings provide preliminary insights into the impact of imagery-enhanced and verbally-based psychotherapy for SAD on emotion regulation biomarkers.

  • Experimenting with Business Models for Sustainable Value-creation in Established Firms
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Sustainable Business Model Challenges : Economic Recovery and Digital Transformation - Economic Recovery and Digital Transformation. - 9791221011883 ; , s. 521-527
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This work is to extend studies of business model (BM) experimentation for sustainable value creation using three cases; here incumbent firms apply resources/networks in pursuit of sustainability-oriented BMs via corporate entrepreneurship. A focus query is: How do organisations apply experimentation to learn, signal and convince key resource holders to engage with shifts (from incumbent BMs) to more circular and servitized models? Research is to deliver insights into how BM microprocesses described for startups apply to incumbents, and if the roles/forms and influence of experimentation in modeling processes are similar. It is also to unravel how incumbents leverage and extend networks, strategic alliances with stakeholders, and the role of ecosystem partnerships, to support BMs. A process study approach is applied and analysis will triangulate data from in-depth interviews, participant-observation, and archival sources as processes are reconstructed, followed (>2 years), and subject to cross-case analysis. This early analysis finds incumbent cases with deliberate, purposeful experiments that aim to secure resources. However, context differs from earlier studies, as new BMs disrupt incumbent business logics and structures. Evidence is also found of ‘corporate entrepreneurs’ extending firm domain-competence via new combinations of internal resources and external value chain alliances. This analysis indicates that research extension in two areas is needed: a) analysis of where inertial effects and tensions with firm logics influence experimentation framing, and its role to secure resources; b) the role, and function of alliances with value-chain stakeholders and how they are influenced, shaped, and developed by experimentation processes.
