  • J-PARC Neutrino Beamline Upgrade Technical Design Report
  • 2019
  • Rapport (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this document, technical details of the upgrade plan of the J-PARC neutrino beamline for the extension of the T2K experiment are described. T2K has proposed to accumulate data corresponding to 2×1022 protons-on-target in the next decade, aiming at an initial observation of CP violation with 3σ or higher significance in the case of maximal CP violation. Methods to increase the neutrino beam intensity, which are necessary to achieve the proposed data increase, are described.

  • Registered Replication Report: Dijksterhuis and van Knippenberg (1998)
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Perspectives on Psychological Science. - : SAGE PUBLICATIONS LTD. - 1745-6916 .- 1745-6924. ; 13:2, s. 268-294
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Dijksterhuis and van Knippenberg (1998) reported that participants primed with a category associated with intelligence (professor) subsequently performed 13% better on a trivia test than participants primed with a category associated with a lack of intelligence (soccer hooligans). In two unpublished replications of this study designed to verify the appropriate testing procedures, Dijksterhuis, van Knippenberg, and Holland observed a smaller difference between conditions (2%-3%) as well as a gender difference: Men showed the effect (9.3% and 7.6%), but women did not (0.3% and -0.3%). The procedure used in those replications served as the basis for this multilab Registered Replication Report. A total of 40 laboratories collected data for this project, and 23 of these laboratories met all inclusion criteria. Here we report the meta-analytic results for those 23 direct replications (total N = 4,493), which tested whether performance on a 30-item general-knowledge trivia task differed between these two priming conditions (results of supplementary analyses of the data from all 40 labs, N = 6,454, are also reported). We observed no overall difference in trivia performance between participants primed with the professor category and those primed with the hooligan category (0.14%) and no moderation by gender.

  • A silicon carbide room-temperature single-photon source
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Nature Materials. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1476-1122 .- 1476-4660. ; 13:2, s. 151-156
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the past few years, single-photon generation has been realized in numerous systems: single molecules(1), quantum dots(2-4), diamond colour centres5 and others(6). The generation and detection of single photons play a central role in the experimental foundation of quantum mechanics(7) and measurement theory(8). An efficient and high-quality single-photon source is needed to implement quantum key distribution, quantum repeaters and photonic quantum information processing(9). Here we report the identification and formation of ultrabright, room-temperature, photostable single-photon sources in a device-friendly material, silicon carbide (SiC). The source is composed of an intrinsic defect, known as the carbon antisite-vacancy pair, created by carefully optimized electron irradiation and annealing of ultrapure SiC. An extreme brightness (2 x 10(6) counts s(-1)) resulting from polarization rules and a high quantum efficiency is obtained in the bulk without resorting to the use of a cavity or plasmonic structure. This may benefit future integrated quantum photonic devices(9).

  • Thermal and mechanical stability of wurtzite-ZrA1N/cubic-TiN and wurtzite-ZrA1N/cubic-ZrN multilayers
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Surface & Coatings Technology. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA. - 0257-8972 .- 1879-3347. ; 324, s. 328-337
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The phase stability and mechanical properties of wurtzite (w)-Zr(0.25)A1(0.75)N/cubic (c)-TiN and w-Zr(0.25)A1(0.75)N/c-ZrN multilayers grown by arc evaporation are studied. Coherent interfaces with an orientation relation of c-TiN (111)[1-10]IIw-ZrAlN (0001)[11-20] form between ZrA1N and TiN sublayers during growth of the w-ZrAIN/c-TiN multilayer. During annealing at 1100 degrees C a c-Ti(Zr)N phase forms at interfaces between ZrA1N and TiN, which reduces the lattice mismatch so that the coherency and the compressive strain are partially retained, resulting in an increased hardness (32 GPa) after annealing. For the w-ZrAIN/c-ZrN multilayer, there is no coherency between sublayers leading to strain relaxation during annealing causing the hardness to drop. The retained coherency between layers and the compressive strain in the w-ZrAIN/c-TiN multilayer results in superior fracture toughness compared to the w-ZrAIN/c-ZrN multilayer as revealed by cross-sectional investigations of damage events under scratch and indentation tests. • Hospitalizations for immersion-related injuries in Alaska 1991-2000
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Safety Science. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-7535 .- 1879-1042. ; 44:6, s. 479-489
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: This study analyzed factors associated with injuries to hospitalized victims of nonfatal immersion-related events in Alaska from 1991 through 2000. Data: Alaska Trauma Registry (ATR) records of victims of nonfatal immersion events requiring hospitalization were examined to identify factors associated with injury outcomes. Subjects were divided into two groups: the "immersion only" (IO) group had no additional injuries associated with their immersion-related events, while subjects in the "associated injury" (AI) group incurred additional trauma during injury events. Results: There were 176 ATR records of nonfatal immersion events. In 87 (49.5%) cases, hospitalizations were due to the effects of immersion only (IO group). In 89 (50.5%) cases, hospitalizations were due not only to the effects of immersion, but also due to additional injuries occurring immediately before or while immersion took place (AI group). The final logistic regression model revealed statistically significant relationships between age greater than 12 years, female gender, white ethnicity, and operation of water transport vehicles, and increased risk for associated injury outcomes (p < 0.05). Discussion: This study is the first of its kind to analyze factors associated with the most severe nonfatal immersion-related injuries in Alaska, and identifies target populations for future safety campaigns. © 2005 Elsevier Ltd. • Oral cladribine for B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia : Report of a phase II trial with a 3-d, 3-weekly schedule in untreated and pretreated patients, and a long-term follow-up of 126 previously untreated patients
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: British Journal of Haematology. - : Wiley. - 0007-1048 .- 1365-2141. ; 116:3, s. 538-548
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A phase II study was undertaken to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of a new schedule of cladribine administration (10 mg/m2 orally daily for 3 d every 3 weeks) in 107 patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). To minimize toxicity, treatment withdrawal criteria were defined. The results of the 63 previously untreated patients were retrospectively compared with 63 from an earlier study using a 5-d monthly schedule. The compiled data were analysed for prognostic factors for survival. No significant difference regarding response were seen in the two cohorts of the 126 previously untreated patients. The complete response (CR), nodular partial response (nPR) and partial response (PR) rates were 15%, 21% and 41%. Quality of response had no impact on survival. The 3- and 5-year overall survival for previously untreated patients was 73% and 58%, respectively, with a median follow-up of 54 months. Pretreatment haemoglobin < 11.0 g/dl and elevated beta-2-microglobulin had a negative influence on survival. Major infections occurred in 21% of patients in the 3-d study compared with 35% in the 5-d study. The overall response (OR) and CR rates in the 40 previously treated patients were 34% and 5% respectively. Median overall survival was 24 months and median progression-free survival for responding patients was 14 months. Cladribine used as a single agent is an effective treatment with an acceptable safety profile for pretreated and untreated B-CLL. The achievement of complete remission was not a prerequisite for long-term survival.

  • Molecular orientation dependent energy levels at interfaces with pentacene and pentacenequinone
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Organic electronics. - : Elsevier BV. - 1566-1199 .- 1878-5530. ; 7:6, s. 537-545
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We used ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS) to investigate the energy level alignment at contacts between pentacene and Ag(1 1 1) in the presence of interfacial 6,13-pentacenequinone (PQ). Depending on the metal pre-coverage with PQ, we found evidence for three distinctly different interface morphologies and molecular orientations, accompanied by significant changes of the energy level alignment. Consequently, the hole injection barrier between pentacene and Ag(1 1 1) varied between 1.1 eV (pristine Ag) and 0.45 eV (5.4 nm PQ pre-coverage on Ag). In addition, our UPS results suggest that PQ can act as deep trap for electrons in a pentacene matrix. Depending on the exact mutual orientation of PQ and pentacene, the depth of these traps can be in the range of 0.2-0.75 eV. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Nav1.7 is required for normal C-low threshold mechanoreceptor function in humans and mice.
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Brain : a journal of neurology. - : Oxford University Press (OUP). - 1460-2156 .- 0006-8950. ; 145:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patients with bi-allelic loss of function mutations in the voltage-gated sodium channel Nav1.7 present with congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP), whilst low threshold mechanosensation is reportedly normal. Using psychophysics (n = 6 CIP participants and n = 86 healthy controls) and facial EMG (n = 3 CIP participants and n = 8 healthy controls) we have found that these patients also have abnormalities in the encoding of affective touch which is mediated by the specialised afferents; C-low threshold mechanoreceptors (C-LTMRs). In the mouse we found that C-LTMRs express high levels of Nav1.7. Genetic loss or selective pharmacological inhibition of Nav1.7 in C-LTMRs resulted in a significant reduction in the total sodium current density, an increased mechanical threshold and reduced sensitivity to non-noxious cooling. The behavioural consequence of loss of Nav1.7 in C-LTMRs in mice was an elevation in the von Frey mechanical threshold and less sensitivity to cooling on a thermal gradient. Nav1.7 is therefore not only essential for normal pain perception but also for normal C-LTMR function, cool sensitivity and affective touch.
