  • IceCube search for neutrinos from GRB 221009A
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC 2023). - : Sissa Medialab Srl.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    •  GRB 221009A is the brightest Gamma Ray Burst (GRB) ever observed. The observed extremelyhigh flux of high and very-high-energy photons provide a unique opportunity to probe the predictedneutrino counterpart to the electromagnetic emission. We have used a variety of methods to searchfor neutrinos in coincidence with the GRB over several time windows during the precursor, promptand afterglow phases of the GRB. MeV scale neutrinos are studied using photo-multiplier ratescalers which are normally used to search for galactic core-collapse supernovae neutrinos. GeVneutrinos are searched starting with DeepCore triggers. These events don’t have directionallocalization, but instead can indicate an excess in the rate of events. 10 GeV - 1 TeV and >TeVneutrinos are searched using traditional neutrino point source methods which take into accountthe direction and time of events with DeepCore and the entire IceCube detector respectively. The>TeV results include both a fast-response analysis conducted by IceCube in real-time with timewindows of T0 − 1 to T0 + 2 hours and T0 ± 1 day around the time of GRB 221009A, as well asan offline analysis with 3 new time windows up to a time window of T0 − 1 to T0 + 14 days, thelongest time period we consider. The combination of observations by IceCube covers 9 ordersof magnitude in neutrino energy, from MeV to PeV, placing upper limits across the range forpredicted neutrino emission.

  • Visualisation to Support Fault Localisation in Distributed Embedded Systems within the Automotive Industry
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 2018 IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering Workshops (ISSREW). - : IEEE. - 9781538694435
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the design, development and evaluation of a software tool to assist the localisation of root causes of test case failures in distributed embedded systems, specifically vehicle systems controlled by a network of electronic control units (ECUs). We use data visualising to provide sensible information from a large number of test execution logs from large-scale software integration testing under a continuous integration process. Our goal is to allow more efficient root-cause identification of failures and foster a continuous feedback loop in the fault localisation process. We evaluate our solution in-situ at the Research and Development division of Volvo Car Corporation (VCC). Our prototype helps the failure debugging procedures by presenting clear and concise data and by allowing stakeholders to filter and control which information is displayed. Moreover, it encourages a systematic and continuous analysis of the current state of testing by aggregating and categorising historical data from test harnesses to identify patterns and trends in test results.

  • FUSE:Lightweight Guaranteed Distributed Failure Notification
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 6th Symposium on Operating Systems Design and Implementation (OSDI). - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • FUSE is a lightweight failure notification service for building distributed systems. Distributed systems built with FUSE are guaranteed that failure notifications never fail. Whenever a failure notification is triggered, all live members of the FUSE group will hear a notification within a bounded period of time, irrespective of node or communication failures. In contrast to previous work on failure detection, the responsibility for deciding that afailure has occurred is shared between the FUSE service and the distributed application. This allows applications to implement their own definitions of failure. Our experience building a scalable distributed event delivery system on an overlay network has convinced us of the usefulness of this service. Our results demonstrate that the network costs of each FUSE group can be small; in particular, our overlay network implementation requires no additional liveness-verifying ping traffic beyond that already needed to maintain the overlay, making the steady state network load independent of the number of active FUSE groups.

  • Grand Challenges in SportsHCI
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: CHI 2024 - Proceedings of the 2024 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Sytems. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The field of Sports Human-Computer Interaction (SportsHCI) investigates interaction design to support a physically active human being. Despite growing interest and dissemination of SportsHCI literature over the past years, many publications still focus on solving specific problems in a given sport. We believe in the benefit of generating fundamental knowledge for SportsHCI more broadly to advance the field as a whole. To achieve this, we aim to identify the grand challenges in SportsHCI, which can help researchers and practitioners in developing a future research agenda. Hence, this paper presents a set of grand challenges identified in a five-day workshop with 22 experts who have previously researched, designed, and deployed SportsHCI systems. Addressing these challenges will drive transformative advancements in SportsHCI, fostering better athlete performance, athlete-coach relationships, spectator engagement, but also immersive experiences for recreational sports or exercise motivation, and ultimately, improve human well-being.

  • CO2 laser structuring of semiconductor-core glass fibers
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics InfoBase Conference Papers. - : OSA - The Optical Society. - 9781943580194
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A scanning CO2 laser system is used to process semiconductor core glass fibers. The conditions can be tuned to melt the core and soften the glass, producing resonators, tapers and bends.

  • Upon Not Opening The Black Box
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: CHI EA '20: Extended Abstracts of the 2020 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. - New York, NY, USA : ACM Digital Library. - 9781450368193
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • On the eve of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) coming into effect we, a university laboratory, marked the occasion with an interactive installation called Compliance. Data traces from Compliance were subsequently processed by the lab, here enacted in the form of a play. While much discussion has centered around modern 'black-boxed' processing of data, less attention has been paid to the value of the data itself, and whether it merits use. We draw on dramaturgical methods for both analysis and presentation [15], allowing for readers to imagine staging their own, different, versions of the event. Drawing on the ambiguous ontological status of (yet unexamined) data, we offer a discussion on the value of data, its use and non-use, as well as how to live with this ambivalence, continuously negotiating social contracts about our further conduct with the data.

  • The effect of the financial crises on European banks narrative communication
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 36th Annual Congress of the European Accounting Association, May 2-6, 2013 Paris Dauphine University, Paris, France.
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Accounting narratives have become an increasingly important part of the financial information that companies provide as an integral part of orporate financial reports. Accounting narratives play a crucial role for management when communication finnacial performance. Accounting narratives are considered an important document for the investment decisions of both private and institutional investors. However, since accounting narratives are unaudited they may be influenced by corporate management and thus may be subject to impression management. This paper focuses on the chairman's narratives in European top banks before, during and after the first recent banking crisis. It discusses how banks' reporting strategies and narratives depend on underlying financial performance. The aim of this study is to examine how the financial crisis affects the accounting narratives and whether this differs between countries and over time. This study also investigates if the President's explanations of performance in the CEO letter are affected by the crisis by looking at textual characterisitcs about good and bad news in different ways. The results in this paper indicate that banks ́ chairman's statements are subject to impression management techniques and contribute to an enhanced understanding of impression management in banks reporting context.
