  • Physical bounds on the partial realized gain
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: [Host publication title missing]. ; , s. 1-6
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An antenna identity, derived from the forward scattering sum rule, shows that the partial realized gain of an antenna is related to the polarizability of the antenna structure. The partial realized gain contains the mismatch, directivity, efficiency, and polarization properties of the antenna. The antenna identity expresses how the performance depends on the electrical size and shape of the antenna structure. It is also the starting point for several antenna bounds. In this paper, the identity, its associated physical bounds, and computational aspects of the polarizability dyadics are discussed.

  • Mineral recovery from Lake Katwe brines using isothermal evaporation
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: International Mine Water Association Annual Conference 2013. - : IMWA International Mine Water Association. - 9780615793856 ; , s. 855-860
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lake Katwe is a saline lake within the East African Rift system in Western Uganda, with a rich source of mineral salts. The present work aims at evaluating possibilities of future salt extraction from the lake deposit. An isothermal evaporation experiment was conducted on the lake brines. The precipitated salts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. Various economic salts such as thenardite, gypsum, mirabilite, burkeite, hanksite, anhydrite, trona, halite, nahcolite, thermonatrite, and soda ash precipitate from the lake brines. The experiments also reveal the sequence of mineral salt precipitation in the order sulfates→chlorides→carbonates.

  • Preliminary Results of Studying Bone Growth Using NaF-18 in Patients with aTaylor Spatial Frame (TSF)
  • 2013
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We were able to see the difference in bone activity ofdifferent parts of the leg over the course of a patient’s therapy. In one patient, we detected at 52 days that the fibula had an SUVmax of 66 while the tibia had an SUVmax of 14, indicating that the fibula was healing much faster than the tibia. The surgeon had to intervene, re-breaking and distracting the fibula. At 94days after the initial surgery, both bones had a more comparable activity (with an SUVmax of 37 and 24 respectively). This study has lead to the use of PET/CT imaging to assess the early clinical state of the bone remodelling process.

  • A comparison of a finite and an infinite antenna array with cylindrical dielectric resonator elements
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: 2011 30th URSI General Assembly and Scientific Symposium, URSIGASS 2011. - 9781424451173
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we compare radiation patterns and mutual coupling in finite and infinite square lattice arrays of dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) elements. The array elements are cavity backed, slot fed cylindrical DRAs that utilizes the HE11δ mode. It is observed that the degree of the mutual coupling for non-edge elements is very close to the mutual coupling between the corresponding elements in the infinite array. However, a large difference is observed in the mutual coupling between the center element and the two corner elements in the finite array with respect to the corresponding elements in the infinite array. The coupling is strongest in the E-plane and it is shown how it changes the embedded element patterns in the array.
