  • Mitigation of Nonlinear Impairments on QPSK Data in Phase-Sensitive Amplified Links
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: 39th European Conference on Optical Communication and Exhibition, ECOC 2013, London, 22-26 September 2013. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology. - 9781849197595 ; :622 CP, s. 486-488
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the mitigation of nonlinear impairments via phase-sensitive amplification. We show in simulation and experiment that this effect can be optimized through engineering link dispersion. A phase-sensitive amplified link is measured to reduce nonlinear penalties by over 3dB compared to a phase-insensitive amplified link.

  • Noise beating in hybrid phase-sensitive amplifier systems
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : The Optical Society. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:5, s. 5762-5771
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the effect of noise loading in a hybrid phase-sensitive amplifier system, analyzing the effect of noise beating between the signal and idler waves coupled in a parametric amplifier. Through analyzing input and output optical signal to noise ratios, we find that system performance of a phase-sensitive amplifier is 3 to 6 dB improved over a phase-insensitive amplifier, depending on the ratio of loaded noise power to that of vacuum fluctuations. • Phase-Sensitive Optical Pre-Amplifier Implemented in an 80km DQPSK Link
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Optics InfoBase Conference Papers. - Washington, D.C. : OSA. - 2162-2701.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present the first demonstration of a phase-sensitive fiber optic parametric amplifier successfully implemented over an 80 km dispersion managed link. We measure 1.3 dB higher sensitivity with this amplifier system against a comparable conventional EDFA-based link.

  • Detailed characterization of a
fiber-optic parametric amplifier in phase-sensitive and phase-insensitive operation
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 18:5, s. 4130-4137
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We experimentally demonstrate a single-pumped, non-degenerate phase-sensitive parametric amplifier with a precise control of phase and amplitude of the in-going waves and investigate in detail its gain, attenuation and saturation properties in comparison with operation in phase insensitive amplifier (PIA) mode. We experimentally observe the variation of the gain and attenuation as a function of the relative phase, pump power and the signal-idler power ratio. The phase sensitive gain spectrum is studied over a 24 nm symmetrical bandwidth and we achieve a maximum phase sensitive amplification (PSA) gain of 33 dB. A departure from the theoretical maximum attenuation as the gain increases is observed and explained.

  • Demonstration of Degenerate Vector Phase-Sensitive Amplification
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Optical Communication (ECOC 2013), 39th European Conference and Exhibition on. - : Institution of Engineering and Technology. - 9781849197595 ; :622 CP, s. 492-494
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The performance of a degenerate vector (dual cross-polarized pump) phase-sensitive amplifier (PSA) is characterized and compared to a degenerate scalar (dual co-polarized pump) PSA. In both schemes, we assess the gain as a function of the signal state of polarization, verifying its compliance with theory, and the phase transfer function.

  • Experimental analysis of degenerate vector phase-sensitive amplification
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:18, s. 21889-21902
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We comprehensively investigate a degenerate vector phase-sensitive amplifier (PSA). We determine the gain dependence on the relative phase and polarization angle between the pumps and the degenerate signal wave. The vector PSA is experimentally shown to be sensitive to the pump states of polarization (SOP) due to polarization mode dispersion in the fiber. However, the scheme performance agrees well with theory under specific pump SOPs and we achieve an on-off gain over 10 dB with a small deviation from the theoretically expected results. In comparison to the scalar scheme, the proposed vector scheme has larger tolerance for pump depletion due to four-wave mixing between pumps and generation of higher-order idlers.

  • Phase-Sensitive Amplification and Regeneration of Dual-Polarization BPSK without Polarization Diversity
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 European Conference on Optical Communication, ECOC 2014; Cannes; France; 21 September 2014 through 25 September 2014. - 9782954944401 ; , s. Art. no. 6964045-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We analyze the performance of a degenerate vector PSA-based receiver and compare to an EDFA-based receiver, achieving an about 1 dB sensitivity improvement. We also assess the phase regeneration provided by the vector PSA when the signal phase is degraded.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate, for the first time, amplification of a DP-QPSK signal using a vector phase-sensitive amplifier (PSA). The PSA-based receiver shows an about 0.7 dB sensitivity improvement compared to an EDFA-based receiver.

  • Quadrature demultiplexing using a degenerate vector parametric amplifier
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:24, s. 29424-29434
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on quadrature demultiplexing of a quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) signal into two cross-polarized binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) signals with negligible penalty at bit-error rate (BER) equal to 10−9. The all-optical quadrature demultiplexing is achieved using a degenerate vector parametric amplifier operating in phase-insensitive mode. We also propose and demonstrate the use of a novel and simple phase-locked loop (PLL) scheme based on detecting the envelope of one of the signals after demultiplexing in order to achieve stable quadrature decomposition.

  • Format Conversion From 120-Gb/s RZ-D8PSK to 80-Gb/s RZ-DQPSK Through FWM-Based Optical Phase Erasure
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 22:24, s. 1817-1819
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An optical format conversion scheme from 120-Gb/s return-to-zero differential 8-ary phase-shift keying (RZ-D8PSK) to 80-Gb/s RZ differential quadrature phase-shift keying (RZ-DQPSK) is demonstrated by optically removing one tributary through optical phase erasure. It is achieved through four-wave mixing in a highly nonlinear fiber. An 8-dB sensitivity improvement is obtained for the converted DQPSK signal relative to that of the input D8PSK signal. This is potentially useful to enable the interconnection among neighboring networks where different formats are deployed.
