  • Noise beating in hybrid phase-sensitive amplifier systems
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : The Optical Society. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:5, s. 5762-5771
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the effect of noise loading in a hybrid phase-sensitive amplifier system, analyzing the effect of noise beating between the signal and idler waves coupled in a parametric amplifier. Through analyzing input and output optical signal to noise ratios, we find that system performance of a phase-sensitive amplifier is 3 to 6 dB improved over a phase-insensitive amplifier, depending on the ratio of loaded noise power to that of vacuum fluctuations. • Quadrature demultiplexing using a degenerate vector parametric amplifier
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:24, s. 29424-29434
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on quadrature demultiplexing of a quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) signal into two cross-polarized binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) signals with negligible penalty at bit-error rate (BER) equal to 10−9. The all-optical quadrature demultiplexing is achieved using a degenerate vector parametric amplifier operating in phase-insensitive mode. We also propose and demonstrate the use of a novel and simple phase-locked loop (PLL) scheme based on detecting the envelope of one of the signals after demultiplexing in order to achieve stable quadrature decomposition.

  • Fiber optic parametric amplifier with 10-dB net gain without pump dithering
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 25:3, s. 234-237
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present a stimulated Brillouin Scattering (SBS)-suppressed fiber optic parametric amplifier/wavelength converter constructed from four highly nonlinear fiber pieces with applied strain gradients and separated by isolators. The effective total SBS threshold increase is about 11 dB, and a net parametric gain of 10 dB is obtained without any pump dithering.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present passively stimulated Brillouin scattering-suppressed highly nonlinear fiber cascades, and use them to implement fiber-optic parametric amplifiers capable of up to 10 dB net parametric gain without pump dithering.

  • Demonstration of Ultra Wideband Phase-Sensitive Fiber Optical Parametric Amplifier
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1041-1135 .- 1941-0174. ; 28:2, s. 175-177
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This letter demonstrates the capability of fiber optical parametric amplifiers, in phase-sensitive mode, to provide low-noise amplification over a bandwidth in excess of 170 nm, with the cutoff set as minimum gain of 10 dB. We have measured both gain and noise figure for two different lengths of the gain medium offering diverse gain profiles. Noise figure measurements confirm ultra-low noise operation along the four telecom bands-namely S-, C-, L-, and U-band. Electrical noise figures for a limited wavelength range were also measured to confirm the measured optical noise figures.

  • Frequency-resolved noise figure measurements of phase (in)sensitive fiber optical parametric amplifiers
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : The Optical Society. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:23, s. 27821-27832
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We measure the frequency-resolved noise figure of fiber optical parametric amplifiers both in phase-insensitive and phase-sensitive modes in the frequency range from 0.03 to 3 GHz. We also measure the variation in noise figure due to the degradation in pump optical signal to noise ratio and also as a function of the input signal powers. Noise figure degradation due to stimulated Brillouin scattering is observed.

  • Optical signal to noise ratio improvement through unbalanced noise beating in phase-sensitive parametric amplifiers
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Optics Express. - : The Optical Society. - 1094-4087 .- 1094-4087. ; 22:9, s. 10477-10486
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We investigate the beating of signal and idler waves, which have imbalanced signal to noise ratios, in a phase-sensitive parametric amplifier. Imbalanced signal to noise ratios are achieved in two ways; first by imbalanced noise loading; second by varying idler to signal input power ratio. In the case of imbalanced noise loading the phase-sensitive amplifier improved the signal to noise ratio from 3 to 6 dB, and in the case of varying idler to signal input power ratio, the signal to noise ratio improved from 3 to in excess of 20 dB.
