  • Transient wave propagation in gyrotropic media
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Invariant inbedding and inverse problems. - 0898713056 ; , s. 77-89
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this paper transient electromagnetic wave propagation in an inhomogeneous, cold plasma is considered. It is assumed that a constant magnetic induction is present and that the plasma is spatially inhomogeneous in the direction of the magnetic induction. Losses in the plasma are modeled with a collision frequency ν. The direct problem, which is to calculate the reflected and transmitted responses of the plasma, is considered in this paper. Special attention is paid to the precursor effects in the plasma and several examples of precursor effects in an inhomogeneous plasma are showed.

  • Wave splitting and imbedding equations for a spherically symmetric dispersive medium
  • 1992
  • Ingår i: Invariant inbedding and inverse problems. - 0898713056 ; , s. 103-113
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The direct problem of time dependent electromagnetic scattering in the dispersive sphere is solved by a wave splitting technique. The electric field is expanded in a series involving vector spherical harmonics, leading to a system of wave equations for each term. These systems are reduced to scalar wave equations for each term, which are solved via reflection operators. Some preliminary numerical results are presented.

  • Databases and associated tools for glycomics and glycoproteomics
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: High-Throughput Glycomics and Glycoproteomics. Eds: Gordan Lauc & Manfred Wuhrer. - New York : Springer. - 1064-3745. - 9781493964932 - 9781493964918 ; , s. 235-264
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The access to biodatabases for glycomics and glycoproteomics has proven to be essential for current glycobiological research. This chapter presents available databases that are devoted to different aspects of glycobioinformatics. This includes oligosaccharide sequence databases, experimental databases, 3D structure databases (of both glycans and glycorelated proteins) and association of glycans with tissue, disease, and proteins. Specific search protocols are also provided using tools associated with experimental databases for converting primary glycoanalytical data to glycan structural information. In particular, researchers using glycoanalysis methods by U/HPLC (GlycoBase), MS (GlycoWorkbench, UniCarb-DB, GlycoDigest), and NMR (CASPER) will benefit from this chapter. In addition we also include information on how to utilize glycan structural information to query databases that associate glycans with proteins (UniCarbKB) and with interactions with pathogens (Sugar Bind). © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2017.

  • Air pollution risks to northern european forests in a changing climate
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Developments in Environmental Science. - 1474-8177. - 9780080983493 ; 13, s. 77-99
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The air pollution load to northern European forests is changing as a result of emission reductions. Climate change modifies this load, either directly via atmospheric processes or indirectly by affecting emission patterns. We estimate the risk of harmful effects due to tropospheric ozone and nitrogen deposition in present and future conditions. Our modelling results show that critical levels are exceeded in northern Europe for both ozone and nitrogen. Emission reductions will reduce the vegetation stress, but climate change is likely to have an opposite effect. While tropospheric ozone is reduced, its phytotoxic dose increases due to atmospheric warming. The amplified warming in the Arctic may significantly enhance shipping emissions. The effect of these increases extends to the boreal region. In addition, we review recent literature on the interactions between climate change and air quality, and discuss the assessment of pollution risks and carbon stocks and related synergies in emission control.

  • 2017

  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The understanding of glycosylation alterations in health and disease has evolved significantly and glycans are considered to be relevant biomarker candidates. High-throughput analytical technologies capable of generating high-quality, large-scale glycoprofiling data are in high demand. Here, we describe an automated sample preparation workflow and analysis of N-linked glycans from plasma samples using hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection on an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) instrument. Samples are prepared in 96-well plates and the workflow features rapid glycoprotein denaturation, enzymatic glycan release, glycan purification on solid-supported hydrazide, fluorescent labeling, and post-labeling cleanup with solid-phase extraction. The development of a novel approach for plasma N-glycan analysis and its implementation on a robotic platform significantly reduces the time required for sample preparation and minimizes technical variation. It is anticipated that the developed method will contribute to expanding high-throughput capabilities to analyze protein glycosylation. © Springer Science+Business Media New York 2017.

  • Chronic ligament injuries of the ankle joint
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Sports Injuries: Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment and Rehabilitation, Second Edition. - Berlin : Springer. ; , s. 1711-1725
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Ankle sprains are the most frequently encountered injuries in athletic activities. Early diagnosis, functional treatment, and rehabilitation are the key issues in preventing a potential evolution towards chronic ligament insufficiency. Ankle joint instability is defined as either mechanical instability or functional instability. Mechanical instability refers to an objective measurement, e.g., standardized stress radiographs, while functional instability is a description of the subjective symptoms of the patient, i.e., repeated giving way in some cases combined with pain. Functional instability is the most common residual disability after acute (lateral) ligament ruptures. This chapter will elaborate on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of the athlete's medial and lateral ankle ligament problems. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012, 2015, All Rights Reserved.

  • Total achilles tendon ruptures: Current trends
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Sports Injuries: Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment and Rehabilitation, Second Edition. - Berlin : Springer. - 9783642365690 ; , s. 2321-2334
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Achilles tendon rupture occurs relatively common (De Jonge, Br J Sports Med 45:1026-1028, 2011). Although it is the thickest and strongest tendon in the human body, it remains susceptible to injury. During the last decades, the incidence of spontaneous ruptures has been rising, which may be due to the increasing keep-fit culture. Ruptures occur most frequently in patients between the age of 30 and 50 years old, with a male predominance. Approximately 75 % of Achilles tendon ruptures occur during sports activities, especially racket games, soccer, and handball. Diagnosis is primarily clinical. However, there is still a lack of consensus on the best management of the Achilles tendon rupture. Generally, open surgical management is advocated, although over the past few years, percutaneous techniques are performed more commonly. Nonsurgical management appears to be a good alternative for those with comorbidity or patients who do not wish to have surgery. Recent systematic reviews have concluded that operative management has a lower re-rupture rate but must be balanced by the risks associated with surgery (Khan and Carey Smith, Cochrane Database Syst Rev CD003674, 2010). © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2012, 2015, All Rights Reserved.
