  • Internet-based affect-focused psychodynamic therapy for social anxiety disorder : A randomized controlled trial with 2-year follow-up
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Psychotherapy. - : American Psychological Association (APA). - 0033-3204 .- 1939-1536. ; 54:4, s. 351-360
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is associated with considerable individual suffering and societal costs. Although there is ample evidence for the efficacy of cognitive behavior therapy, recent studies suggest psychodynamic therapy may also be effective in treating SAD. Furthermore, Internet-based psychodynamic therapy (IPDT) has shown promising results for addressing mixed depression and anxiety disorders. However, no study has yet investigated the effects of IPDT specifically for SAD. This paper describes a randomized controlled trial testing the efficacy of a 10-week, affect-focused IPDT protocol for SAD, compared with a wait-list control group. Long-term effects were also estimated by collecting follow-up data, 6, 12, and 24 months after the end of therapy. A total of 72 individuals meeting diagnostic criteria for DSM–IV social anxiety disorder were included. The primary outcome was the self-report version of Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. Mixed model analyses using the full intention-to-treat sample revealed a significant interaction effect of group and time, suggesting a larger effect in the treatment group than in the wait-list control. A between-group effect size Cohen’s d = 1.05 (95% [CI]: [0.62, 1.53]) was observed at termination. Treatment gains were maintained at the 2-year follow-up, as symptom levels in the treated group continued to decrease significantly. The findings suggest that Internet-based affect-focused psychodynamic therapy is a promising treatment for social anxiety disorder.

  • ICT and Regional Economic Dynamics : A Literature Review
  • 2010
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The objective of this report is to review the relevant theoretical and empirical literature to provide a conceptual and methodological background for the analysis of the consequences of ICT use and globalisation on the regional economies in the European Union. We highlight the key aspects of ICT as a general purpose technology, discuss the economic impacts of ICT diffusion from macro and micro perspectives, and examine the spatial consequences of ICT diffusion. We focus on regional innovation systems and globalisation in order to propose an organizing framework for the analysis of the impact of ICT diffusion on regional development.

  • Genetics of response to cognitive behavior therapy in adults with major depression : a preliminary report
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Molecular Psychiatry. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 1359-4184 .- 1476-5578. ; 24:4, s. 484-490
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Major depressive disorder is heritable and a leading cause of disability. Cognitive behavior therapy is an effective treatment for major depression. By quantifying genetic risk scores based on common genetic variants, the aim of this report was to explore the utility of psychiatric and cognitive trait genetic risk scores, for predicting the response of 894 adults with major depressive disorder to cognitive behavior therapy. The participants were recruited in a psychiatric setting, and the primary outcome score was measured using the Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale-Self Rated. Single-nucleotide polymorphism genotyping arrays were used to calculate the genomic risk scores based on large genetic studies of six phenotypes: major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, intelligence, and educational attainment. Linear mixed-effect models were used to test the relationships between the six genetic risk scores and cognitive behavior therapy outcome. Our analyses yielded one significant interaction effect (B = 0.09, p < 0.001): the autism spectrum disorder genetic risk score correlated with Montgomery Asberg Depression Rating Scale-Self Rated changes during treatment, and the higher the autism spectrum disorder genetic load, the less the depressive symptoms decreased over time. The genetic risk scores for the other psychiatric and cognitive traits were not related to depressive symptom severity or change over time. Our preliminary results indicated, as expected, that the genomics of the response of patients with major depression to cognitive behavior therapy were complex and that future efforts should aim to maximize sample size and limit subject heterogeneity in order to gain a better understanding of the use of genetic risk factors to predict treatment outcome.

  • Towards a better future for biodiversity and people : Modelling Nature Futures
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Global Environmental Change. - 0959-3780 .- 1872-9495. ; 82
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Nature Futures Framework (NFF) is a heuristic tool for co-creating positive futures for nature and people. It seeks to open up a diversity of futures through mainly three value perspectives on nature - Nature for Nature, Nature for Society, and Nature as Culture. This paper describes how the NFF can be applied in modelling to support decision-making. First, we describe key considerations for the NFF in developing qualitative and quantitative scenarios: i) multiple value perspectives on nature as a state space where pathways improving nature toward a frontier can be represented, ii) mutually reinforcing key feedbacks of social-ecological systems that are important for nature conservation and human wellbeing, iii) indicators of multiple knowledge systems describing the evolution of complex social-ecological dynamics. We then present three approaches to modelling Nature Futures scenarios in the review, screening, and design phases of policy processes. This paper seeks to facilitate the integration of relational values of nature in models and strengthen modelled linkages across biodiversity, nature's contributions to people, and quality of life.

  • E-readiness of University Divisions in Online Education
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Netlearning 06', Ronneby.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • E-readiness can be defined as the degree to which a community is prepared to participate in the networked world. In this paper the concept of e-readiness is used in terms of how internal and external factors affect the delivery of online education offered by universities. The paper applies the macro level five forces model as adopted by Chan and Welebir (2003) in the context of micro (university divisional level). Thus, the purpose is not to have generalizable findings, but rather use the delivery of online education as determinant for the level of universities' e-readiness, and explore the factors affecting e-readiness and ways of utilizing the factors as central to the study. Using a qualitative method case study interviews on divisional level were used to obtain in-depth empirical evidence. The study appears to indicate potential need to further modify the five forces model by Chan and Welebir (2003) due to the non-commercial natureof the Swedish education system. Also, co-operation in providing educational services such as the Net University in Sweden precludes market forces determination by universities internally. No specialized training program for the instructors to fit any special needs of students particular to online education was perceived.

  • Brackets and the structure sense
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Development of Mathematics Teaching: Design, Scale, Effects. - Linköping : Svensk förening för MatematikDidaktisk Forskning - SMDF. - 9789197393492 ; , s. 47-55
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Brackets are essential structure elements in mathematics expressions. However, students have shown to have scattered understanding of the concept of brackets and how they are used in mathematical expressions. In this paper we present data that illustrate students’ perceptions of the word “brackets” and how these perceptions influence their use of brackets in numerical expressions. Based on our data we argue that the teaching of the concept of brackets also need to describe brackets as ordered pairs where each symbol has a unique counterpart and that insertion of brackets can, but does not have to, modify the structure of an expression.
