    • The high-precision measurements of the 3He(e,e′) reaction are analyzed using the A1 Collaboration spectrometers at the Mainz microtron MAMI. These were performed in antiparallel kinematics at a central momentum transfer of 685 MeV/c and at energy transfers below the quasielastic peak. Distorted momentum distributions and cross sections were also extracted. It is found that full Faddeev-type calculations account for only some of the excess cross-section.

    • BGO-OD is a new meson photoproduction experiment at the ELSA facility of Bonn University. It aims at the investigation of non strange and strange baryon excitations, and is especially designed to be able to detect weekly bound meson-baryon type structures. The setup for the BGO-OD experiment is presented, the characteristics of the photon beam and the detector performances are shown and the initial experimental program is discussed.

    • The BGOOD experiment at the ELSA facility in Bonn has been commissioned within the framework of an international collaboration. The experiment pursues a systematic investigation of non-strange and strange meson photoproduction, in particular t-channel processes at low momentum transfer. The setup uniquely combines a central almost 4 π acceptance BGO crystal calorimeter with a large aperture forward magnetic spectrometer providing excellent detection of both neutral and charged particles, complementary to other setups such as Crystal Barrel, Crystal Ball, LEPS and CLAS.

    • A high-resolution study of the (e,e'p) reaction on Helium-4 was carried out at the Institut fuer Kernphysik in Mainz, Germany. The measurements were done in parallel kinematics (momentum transfer q=685 MeV/c, energy transfer omega=334 MeV) at different incident beam energies in order to enable the Rosenbluth separation of the longitudinal and transverse response functions.

    • The BGO-OD experiment at the ELSA accelerator facility uses an energy tagged bremstrahlung photon beam to investigate the excitation spectrum of the nucleon. The setup consists of a highly segmented BGO calorimeter surrounding the target, with a particle tracking magnetic spectrometer at forward angles. BGO-OD is ideal for investigating the photoproduction of hadrons of non-zero strangeness. The high momentum resolution at forward angles covers a kinematic region where t-channel exchange mechanisms play a dominant role. Access to this low momentum transfer region also allows the investigation of degrees of freedom not derived from constituent quark models, for example, the role of (vector) meson - baryon interactions and dynamically generated states in photoproduction reactions. Data taking for the first part of an extensive physics programme is complete and preliminary results and ongoing analysis are presented.

    • <p>A screening of more than 1,500 drug-resistant strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis revealed evolutionary patterns characteristic of positive selection for three alanine racemase (Alr) mutations. We investigated these mutations using molecular modeling, in vitro MIC testing, as well as direct measurements of enzymatic activity, which demonstrated that these mutations likely confer resistance to D-cycloserine.</p>
