    • Ethnographically inspired methods have in recent years been successfully applied in Information Science (IS) research on different forms of social media related practices (c.f. Sundin & Francke 2009a; 2009b, Kjellberg 2010). This paper aims to contribute to an emerging discussion on the use of this methodological approach for analysing and comprehending consequences of the 2.0-turn in public libraries. Drawing on the experiences of a one-year long ethnographic study of everyday work-related social media practices in a Swedish public library, I suggest that there are significant epistemic benefits of using the ethnographic approach in this field. By shifting focus to everyday practices and routines in local settings, new features of the 2.0-phenomena are accentuated, contributing to different understandings of the role of social media in public library development.

    • Purpose – The aim of this paper is to define both theoretically and empirically the concept of Library 2.0. Design/methodology/approach – Written answers to the question “What is Library 2.0?” given by practitioners and researchers (n=29) interested in Library 2.0 issues were analyzed by using co-word analysis to map the underlying elements of the concept. Findings – The study resulted in a model of Library 2.0, containing seven building-blocks of the phenomenon: interactivity, users, participation, libraries and library services, web and web 2.0, social aspects, and technology and tools. Research limitations/implications – The model provides a basis for framing Library 2.0 as a research object and to map central themes of future research. Practical implications – A comprehensive model enables both researchers and practitioners to frame the phenomenon more clearly, evaluate existing and planned services and their proximity to what is Library 2.0. Originality/value – Unlike earlier proposals for a definition of the notion Library 2.0, the present study presents an empirical and consensual crowd-sourcing approach of defining the concept Library 2.0 and provides basis for discussing the future evolution of the notion and its implications for library and information science research and library practices.

    • Library 2.0 is a change in the way libraries interact with their users. Technological developments on the Web have had a major influence on these changes. The change also places new requirements on librarians’ competencies and skills. This research investigates how librarians themselves see this change in terms of their work identity and working knowledge. The research shows what kinds of qualities and characteristics are expected from a ‘Librarian 2.0’, according to a group of professional librarians. The results associate ‘Librarian 2.0’ firmly with the Web, although some of the more traditional characteristics of librarianship have retained their relevance. This research also shows that the change towards a ‘Librarian 2.0’ can be seen as intimidating by some librarians, a fact that has to be taken into account when libraries develop their future strategies.

    • Clinical tools to identify individuals with unstable atherosclerotic lesions are required to improve prevention of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke. Here, a systems-based analysis of atherosclerotic plaques and plasma from patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy for stroke prevention was used to identify molecular signatures with a causal relationship to disease. Local plasma collected in the lesion proximity following clamping prior to arteriotomy was profiled together with matched peripheral plasma. This translational workflow identified biliverdin reductase B as a novel marker of intraplaque hemorrhage and unstable carotid atherosclerosis, which should be investigated as a potential predictive biomarker for cardiovascular events in larger cohorts.
