• Design and Baseline Characteristics of the Finerenone in Reducing Cardiovascular Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease Trial
• 2019
• Ingår i: American journal of nephrology. - : S. Karger AG. - 1421-9670 .- 0250-8095. ; 50:5, s. 345-356
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Background: Among people with diabetes, those with kidney disease have exceptionally high rates of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality and progression of their underlying kidney disease. Finerenone is a novel, nonsteroidal, selective mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist that has shown to reduce albuminuria in type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) while revealing only a low risk of hyperkalemia. However, the effect of finerenone on CV and renal outcomes has not yet been investigated in long-term trials. Patients and Methods: The Finerenone in Reducing CV Mortality and Morbidity in Diabetic Kidney Disease (FIGARO-DKD) trial aims to assess the efficacy and safety of finerenone compared to placebo at reducing clinically important CV and renal outcomes in T2D patients with CKD. FIGARO-DKD is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group, event-driven trial running in 47 countries with an expected duration of approximately 6 years. FIGARO-DKD randomized 7,437 patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥25 mL/min/1.73 m2 and albuminuria (urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio ≥30 to ≤5,000 mg/g). The study has at least 90% power to detect a 20% reduction in the risk of the primary outcome (overall two-sided significance level α = 0.05), the composite of time to first occurrence of CV death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke, or hospitalization for heart failure. Conclusions: FIGARO-DKD will determine whether an optimally treated cohort of T2D patients with CKD at high risk of CV and renal events will experience cardiorenal benefits with the addition of finerenone to their treatment regimen. Trial Registration: EudraCT number: 2015-000950-39; ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02545049.

• Polarization control in an X-ray free-electron laser
• 2016
• Ingår i: Nature Photonics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1749-4885 .- 1749-4893. ; 10:7, s. 468-472
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• X-ray free-electron lasers are unique sources of high-brightness coherent radiation. However, existing devices supply only linearly polarized light, precluding studies of chiral dynamics. A device called the Delta undulator has been installed at the Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) to provide tunable polarization. With a reverse tapered planar undulator line to pre-microbunch the beam and the novel technique of beam diverting, hundreds of microjoules of circularly polarized X-ray pulses are produced at 500-1,200 eV. These X-ray pulses are tens of femtoseconds long, have a degree of circular polarization of 0.98(+0.02)(-0.04) at 707 eV and may be scanned in energy. We also present a new two-colour X-ray pump-X-ray probe operating mode for the LCLS. Energy differences of Delta E/E = 2.4% are supported, and the second pulse can be adjusted to any elliptical polarization. In this mode, the pointing, timing, intensity and wavelength of the two pulses can be modified.

• Stabilisation of tyrosinase by reversed micelles for bioelectrocatalysis in dry organic media
• 2003
• Ingår i: Biochimica et Biophysica Acta. General Subjects. - 0304-4165. ; 1620:1-3, s. 119-124
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• The enzymatic and bioelectrocatalytic activity of tyrosinase from mushrooms was studied in a system of reversed micelles formed by Aerosol OT (AOT) in hexane. The optimal catechol oxidising activity of tyrosinase incorporated in reversed micelles was found at a hydration degree of w(0) = 25. The catalytic activity was comparable with tyrosinase activity in aqueous media. When immobilized at an Au electrode, either directly or in reversed micelles, tyrosinase exhibited a similar efficiency of the bioelectrocatalytic reduction of O-2 mediated by catechol; however, a rapid decrease in the activity correlated with the destruction of reversed micelles and/or the removal of tyrosinase from the electrode surface. The system containing tyrosinase in reversed micelles with caoutchouk, spread on the surface of the An electrode and successively covered with a Nafion(R) membrane layer, was found to result in stable tyrosinase-modified electrodes, which were resistant to inactivation in dry acetonitrile. The proposed technique offers possibilities for further development of highly active and stable surfactant/enzyme-modified electrodes for measurements carried out in organic solvents. • Ab-initio modeling and experimental investigation of properties of ultra-high temperature solid solutions TaxZr1-xC
• 2019
• Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : ELSEVIER SCIENCE SA. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 778, s. 480-486
• Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
• Due to their high melting temperature, high-temperature oxidation resistance and outstanding mechanical properties, TaxZr1-xC solid solutions are promising ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC). However, accelerated knowledge-based development of UHTCs solid solutions requires reliable data regarding the properties of the solution phases in the whole interval of concentrations. At present, there are contradictory reports regarding the existence of the miscibility gap in Ta-Zr-C system at temperatures below 900 degrees C. In this work, we carry out ab-initio calculations of the thermodynamic properties of TaxZr1-xC alloys and demonstrate that the solid solutions should not decompose into TaC and ZrC end member compounds. We synthesize single-phase samples of TaxZr1-xC with compositions x = 0.9, 0.8, 0.6, and 0.3 by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) and anneal the samples for 40 h. We do not observe any sign of the decomposition of the solid solution during the annealing, corroborating the conclusions obtained by theoretical simulations. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V.
