  • Multilayered polyelectrolyte-coated gold nanorods as multifunctional optical contrast agents for cancer cell imaging
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Journal of Zhejiang University: Science B. - 1673-1581. ; 11:6, s. 417-422
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the application of multilayered polyelectrolyte-coated gold nanorods (GNRs) as multifunctional optical contrast agents for cancer cell imaging. The surface modification of GNRs improves their chemical stability and facilitates them to be taken up by cancer cells through electrostatic interaction. The unique longitudinal surface plasmon resonance property of GNRs makes them suitable as both "scattering contrast agents" and "Raman contrast agents". In our experiments, the staining of GNRs in cells was further confirmed by dark field microscopy and Raman microscopy. Our experiment results indicated that GNRs have great potential as multifunctional "optical contrast agents" for future in vivo animal imaging.

  • Atypical prefrontal cortical responses to joint/non-joint attention in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) : A functional near-infrared spectroscopy study
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Biomedical Optics Express. - 2156-7085. ; 6:3, s. 690-701
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neuro-developmental disorder, characterized by impairments in one's capacity for joint attention. In this study, functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was applied to study the differences in activation and functional connectivity in the prefrontal cortex between children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and typically developing (TD) children. 21 ASD and 20 TD children were recruited to perform joint and non-joint attention tasks. Compared with TD children, children with ASD showed reduced activation and atypical functional connectivity pattern in the prefrontal cortex during joint attention. The atypical development of left prefrontal cortex might play an important role in social cognition defects of children with ASD.

  • Multifunctional optical imaging using dye-coated gold nanorods in a turbid medium
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Biomedical Optics. - : SPIE-Intl Soc Optical Eng. - 1083-3668 .- 1560-2281. ; 16:1, s. 016002-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report multifunctional optical imaging using dye-coated gold nanorods. Three types of useful information, namely, Raman, fluorescence signals, and absorption contrast, can be obtained from a phantom experiment. These three kinds of information are detected in a nanoparticle-doped-phantom using diffuse optical imaging. Our novel nanoparticle could be used as a multimodality marker for future bioimaging applications.

  • Raman reporter-coated gold nanorods and their applications in multimodal optical imaging of cancer cells
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1618-2642 .- 1618-2650. ; 400:9, s. 2793-2800
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the preparation of a kind of surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) tags and explore their applications in multifunctional optical imaging of cancer cells. The proposed nanoparticles (SERS tags) are prepared by connecting dye molecules directly onto the surfaces of gold nanorods through Au-S or Au-N interactions. The dye molecules are used as Raman reporters, while gold nanorods are used as enhanced materials due to their localized surface plasmon resonance effect. Multilayered polymers are further coated onto the surfaces of the nanoparticles to reach better stability and biocompatibility. Gold nanorods with different aspect ratios and different dye molecules conjugated are compared in order to achieve the diversity of SERS tags and find out the optimized condition of SERS tags with the highest signal intensity. Our experiments show that the resulting nanoparticles, which are uptaken by cancer cells, can provide not only dark field cells images but also multiplexing SERS images.

  • Nanoparticle-assisted DNA nanosensor
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: AOE 2007. - SHENZHEN : AOE. - 9780978921736 ; , s. 84-86
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report a sensitive nanosensor based on a micro-fluidic chip and nanoparticles to detect low concentrations of DNA. The emission of CdSe/ZnS-QDs linked with single strand DNAs was quenched by gold nanoparticles linked with the complementary sequences after hybridization. Sensitively detected signal of DNA was obtained from a 100 mu m capillary.

  • Fluorescence-surface enhanced Raman scattering co-functionalized gold nanorods as near-infrared probes for purely optical in vivo imaging
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Biomaterials. - : Elsevier BV. - 0142-9612 .- 1878-5905. ; 32:6, s. 1601-1610
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Gold nanorods (GNRs) have been widely used for bio-imaging. However, GNRs assisted optical in vivo deep tissue imaging is severely restricted due to signal attenuation, low contrast, complex process or low real-timing. To overcome these problems, we functionalized GNRs with both near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and utilized these co-functionalized GNRs for purely optical in vivo imaging of live mice. Our proposed technology has the combined advantages of high real-timing, high imaging contrast and deep detection ability. The distribution and excretion of intravenously injected GNRs in deep tissues of live mice were observed in vivo for the first time through purely optical imaging. We also demonstrated successfully in vivo biomedical applications of the co-functionalized GNRs to sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping and tumor targeting of mice. The present technology has great future potentials for disease diagnosis and clinical therapies.

  • Heterogeneous LTE/DSRC Approach to Support Real-time Vehicular Communications
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: 2018 10TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ADVANCED INFOCOMM TECHNOLOGY (ICAIT). - : IEEE. ; , s. 122-127
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications have become a key enabler for future autonomous driving by providing sensing and cooperation abilities beyond traditional on-board sensors. The main candidate technologies for V2X communications are dedicated short range communication (DSRC)/IEEE 802.11p and long-term evolution (LTE), each of which has its own strengths and weaknesses. DSRC provides low-latency direct connectivity, but suffers from serious link degradation and reliability issues. On the other hand, LTE is able to provide high capacity data transmission, while its latency remains an issue due to the long transmission time interval. Integrating these two radio technologies as a heterogeneous solution is promising to complement each other and support V2X applications with differentiated service requirements. This paper proposes a service-aware radio access technology (RAT) selection algorithm that enables a heterogeneous LTE/DSRC solution, where LTE and/or DSRC are selected according to services. Each vehicle is assumed to be equipped with both LTE and DSRC interfaces. The heterogeneous solution selects RAT based on the services requirements with consideration of the networks performance. The solution is implemented with integration of the C-ITS standard and validated through the OMNet++ and SUMO based network simulator. A see-through scenario, where a fleet of vehicles require real-time video data sharing to assist efficient driving, is considered. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach outperforms the purely DSRC approach significantly and is able to simultaneously support safety message transmission with low latency, video streaming with high bandwidth requirements, and other applications with different service requirements.
